PDF Editor FAQ

Leap motion vs. Prime Sense's upcoming sensor, which one should I buy?

Looking at the application mentioned by you which is to "just control you laptop or desktop from close range" I would suggest to pre-order Leap. Here are the following reasons:1.) Being a developer for leap myself, I know for sure about the dedication shown by the company towards making this product easy to use. Company is supporting the developers in a big way, and before the device reaches you, applications would already be present for you to just install and play.2.) Developers are already developing great applications, and there are already some open source libraries even for the web.3.) Leap is meant for tracking hand and fingers very accurately, and I tested the sample applications that came along with my developer unit. The leap motion unit is very very accurate. Its the ultimate device you can use to control your laptop or desktop4.) The depth data provided by the leap motion unit is not very much understandable and hence the company has already provided APIs to extract meaningful data from it and hence it is very easy for the developers to develop applications for it.5.) In the one year since its unveiling, Leap with the help of numerous demonstrations has proven its ability to detect hand gestures accuratelyOn the other hand, Capri is very new, and has not got any reviews. Since its a prime sense product, i am pretty sure that it would be a great product. It has support for actively developed OpenNI, however I feel that it is not really meant for recognizing hand gestures very accurately. It sounds like a smaller version of kinect. I might be wrong, since I have not seen any of its demonstrations. For your purpose, go ahead and pre-order Leap. I am pretty sure that you would sit and control your laptop through hand gestures (hand tracking)rather than jumping around (body tracking) in the room trying to control your computer.

Apart from gaming what can Nvidia RTX3090 be used for?

If you are a pure gamer you will be better off with the price performance of the RTX3080.The RTX3090 is quite a powerful supercomputer and a good component for a Machine Learning Workstation. It’s internal 24GB GDDR6X memory with a 384 bit memory bus makes it perfect for larger ML models, and it’s 10,496 CUDA cores give it a lot of power!!! (CUDA is an open souce library by NVIDIA that allows the use of GPU cores for very fast math operations and is in my opinion the foundation to the great success of NVIDIA in the Machine Learning Space). For Machine Learning models that are aware of tensor cores, this card comes with a whopping 328 3rd generation cores, resulting in even shorter processing times.A sample application of Machine Learning is the processing of video frames for object detection and tracking including face recognition, where this card is capable of processing in excess of 2000 frames per second from multiple camera feeds (this depends on the ML model being used).Other applications that benefit from these capabilities are in video editing, engineering design, such in the element design of buildings or machines, and any application based on matrix processing.

Does anyone actually read cover letters?

Big disclaimer: I am just one lowly recruiter. There are a lot of other people in my profession and I don't speak for us all. But what I'm about to say is what I feel is an accurate sample size of what most of my peers in my field can all agree on.Hard truth on this one: absolutely not. Not only do we not usually read them, most of the time we don't even open that attachment or give cover letters a cursory glance. It's such a waste of time. Many companies have even stopped asking for them altogether. But I'll tell you who DOES read cover letters: hiring managers. Not all. In fact, a lot don't, but in the entire hiring equation, were I to assign likelihood, a hiring manager is more prone to read the cover letter than anyone else involved. And even then, I'd add another factor that narrows the field - hiring managers at small companies with lower hiring volume (like a small non-profit) are more likely to read a cover letter than a hiring manager at companies like Amazon or KPMG.In my opinion, if you want your cover letter to be read, do these things:Don't apply online but email your resume to a recruiter or hiring manager instead.Don't make it an actual "letter." Instead, make it the body of the email with your resume attached. When people attach a letter AND a resume to an email, let me just say only one attachment is getting opened, and it's always the resume. So don't even bother.Keep it short and to the point. Like seriously, five sentences is all that's necessary. If you're in sales or something maybe a few bullet points. But no multiple paragraphs. Long cover letters are simply not going to get read.Tailor it. Get the name of the company right in the cover letter. When I did campus recruiting for new grads at Expedia, 1 out of 2 times, the candidate got this wrong. They were applying to companies at such volume it wasn't uncommon to see "I'm excited about the possibility of an opportunity at Microsoft or Google or some other company that was not the company for which I worked."Inject some personality into it...please. If your cover letter sounds like that of everyone else, you have completely defeated the purpose.Similar to "objectives" on a resume, cover letters are a bit of a throwback to another era in job hunting where we didn't have fancy applicant tracking systems that connected a candidate's application with a tangible job/requisition. But for some reason we want to continue this exercise, so we may as well do it with more flair. I would also say cover letter requirements are industry specific. In tech one of the more evolved industries, I feel like they're totally unnecessary. That may not be the case in finance or management consulting, or any of the "bedrock" industries.
