I see a lot of people with different opinions about why they like or dislike the group, but i sense that the fandom is the main protagonist here and i get it that bts is fairly overhyped and successful and have become “the unreachable megastars”, but hey, hear me out for a second.The toxic fandomOkay, I get it. News here and there saying “Downy has run out of stock”, ”Army have spread y hashtag making x´s life miserable”, “Army has made car company run out of stock too OMG” and many other outstanding headers that make you think “their fans are genuinely crazy and irrational”, “They have gone out of their minds”, “This whole bts fever is a pain in the ass” and others. To be honest, it is the group´s job to become influential to the point that they top the news and social media. It is their job. They dont care what it is, BH just wants BTS´s name all over the world 24/7. Recently, BTS members have grown concerned about showing brands on their v-lives and have been covering the names of the products they use in their lives, don´t know if its a good thing, but anyway. I am informed about the latest craziness and outstanding events that give ARMYs the wrong image, and you guys can come to me saying that ARMYs are the craziest fandom but you guys deep inside know that it´s because of their disgunstingly wide popularity. Big fandoms attract more toxic fans and that is a fact. There is a crazy big number of young fans who beg their parents to buy them their latest album, yet buy them concert tickets, and plead them for bts merch for christmas, there is plenty of still inmature fans who are not conscious of the things they do in the internet and would BASH on everything and everyone who would insult their favourite idols because they are fricking kids. Gosh, I remember the Vocaloid era, and i´m pretty sure i would´ve got pissed if some 22 year old told me Vocaloid was bullshit when I´d spent 6 hours a day on animation programs trying to nail amv songs about Kagamine brothers. Guys, seriously, a portion of the bts fandom are underage insecure kids who would give anything to meet their idols in real person; they´re pissed with life, take it on others, bash on anyone bc they´re mad and they feel like unlucky fans, wishing and posting pictures on their walls daydreaming about bts in every imaginary and creepy way until they realize that this whole bts fever is just a product, it´s just selling an ilusion to everyone at the same time they promote their music. Mature fans know this ain´t new. They know what BTS is really like. They are a group of seven boys who had dreams like any other kpop group and somehow made their way to the top; that doesnt make them gods, superior, more talented than anyone else or anything of the sort. Toxic fans are pissed, they´re jealous, got issues, whatever. But please guys, don´t just throw us all into the same bag because i know armys that are beautiful people, a kind 14 year-old who helped me out of my depression, girls who have proven to me to be better friends than the ones in my city, people from my fanbase who can easily become my alternate family because they are very understanding and kind, and speak their matters with words, not insults or bashing around on everyone because they are unhappy. And if they are unhappy, they don´t spill it on everyone. Please, guys, you are more rational that just throwing us all into the same boat tagging us as “irrational and stupid as the group itself”. The guys already have enough on their own, and have issues of their own. They are not responsible for our fanatic bullshit.As for grown up armys who are still inmature, the same word speaks for itself: inmature. And yes, the ARMY fandom has plenty of inmature fans, but keep in mind that BH´s target audience is the insecure-without-a-boyfriend stereotype so they can picture BTS as their alternative boyfriends instead. Actually there are plenty of hot stans out there with hot boyfriends who would accompany their gf to their concert for their own sake and relationship. I don´t have a boyfriend, nor girlfriend, and i´m not gonna lie to you, no one enjoys being single that much, but for some reason my motto is “me, myself and I” and i do enjoy it. I repeat, plenty of people like me are also part of the fandom. Not insecure or permanently single inmature fans who would bash on anyone because they insulted the only thing the hang on to because they hate themselves.“They have changed”Oh, god, please. This ain´t new shit to us all. We all know that when an artist/group becomes famous their music becomes commercial because that´s what their agencies would do to keep the money rollin´. So you can shove that argument right up your minds because we all know that´s the way the industry works. Don´t expect that when BTS hype ends all of the commercial thing will be over because it will not be over. They´re no longer kids with dreams, wake up. They´re international popstars with a huge influence on the population. BTS does this, ARMY does this. BTS does that, ARMY does that. Their influential and deep lyrics is just a concept. They put their heart and soul into lyrics because that´s what they were told to do. Or let´s have a look at “Idol”, a song very critizised among ex-armys. Im gonna be honest here: i dislike Idol because their lyrics seem cold and dishonest to me. Just the hit-song to become a bop for the album and gain views on YouTube. No one writes a song like “Idol” because they feel it in their soul. People write and produce songs like “Idol” because they´re told to. BTS interview not many years ago: “WE DISCUSS CONCEPT WITH OUR DIRECTOR”, so please shut up with the “they´ve changed” thing, please im not the type to be rude towards anyone but this really gets on my nerves. No one discusses Ariana Grande or Troye sivan or anyone else, they have concepts. Concepts are everywhere and they are used for albums to promote them among the market. People go on about how we´ve lost bangtan sonyeondan and got bts, well then, sorry to cut it down for you but Becky g started with soft concepts and ended up with booty. Does it make sense now? Okay, now correctly talking and arguing my opinion, let´s start analyzing this statement.Bangtan Sonyeondan was a heart-felt group of talented boys with huge dreams that they werent even sure themselves that they could acomplish. There you go, an initial image. Got tons of fans, trust and love for the group. “They´re different” here, and “They are deep and they write their own lyrics” there. Bingo, they just gained trust from millions of fans. Throughout the years, they did BTS bomb, v-lives people could relate to, songs they could relate to, kind actions they could relate to… etc. Very cute and emotional, good luck those of you old bts fans there, you´re lucky to have lived that phase with the boys, adorable. Now, as the years go on, BH slowly starts to introduce more modern-like vibes and people tag it as “they´re trying new rythms and it sounds good” and people here are starting to work out the truth by themselves, realize how they´re gonna end up like and they leave. More concerts, events and bon voyage, moments to cherish, beautiful songs, army loves bts and bts loves army back, blah, blah, blah. When they reach fame and go to America for the first time, suddenly everything changes (!!). Bts suddenly appears at the billboard performance and everyone asks “Who on earth is bts and how did they win first place?”. Now i have to add something here. Let´s do a mini exercise.Sit down and relax on your coach, seat, floor or wherever you are reading this, and imagine, for a split second, that you are bts. But not in that super dreamy way like “uuuuh, i got millions of fans that love me and concerts are the best thing in the world, i gotta do my best to keep their trust in me”, no, throw away the cheesy stuff and focus. You are part of the most famous boyband in the world. You have got millions of eyes on you, they watch your every move, every word, and it´s creepy, but also every look. (Delusional fans shipped Jungkook with lisa because they happened to appear in each other´s point of view). You have from little fans to 50–60 (yeah, sixty) y/o´s who see you on their TV and you are obligued to give the best image possible to fulfill millions of expectations (yeah, millions) worlwide. You got paparazzis behind your back. Sasaengs who have got hand of your number. Crazy psycopaths that want your head. You have got death threats on social media and you are aware. The entire world is watching you, consuming on the internet from whatever stupid snack you bought yersterday bc you were hungry and obsessed fans who will block you when you try and greet a disabled fan (credit to Jeon Jungkook for that last one). People who will never let you breathe and will ship you with your own friends. Who sexualize your every interaction with the other person they ship you with. You are creeped out by them, but you cant say that. ARMY is your only love and you cant tell anyone whether you have a secret lover or not, because that would mean the end of your image or career. Your life is destined to fulfill the crazy fantasies of people you´ll never consider important in your life just because you get money from it. Yeah, the money is all that matters. With that money you´ll be able to pay a better school for your siblings. With money you´ll purchase a better car for your parents, a house if possible. You´ll take whatever is necessary to get out of the miserable life you had before debut, even if you have to pretend to be happy in front of dozens of strangers you´ll never give a shit about. Even if you get injured. Even if a family member dies (and imbecile sorry asses dare to make fun of this on social media). Even if you wanna have a family and kids and not give a shit about fans anymore. You also have respectful fans, that wish you the best, that would respect you no matter what decisions you take, that have good manners with haters and argue coherently, fans that you would actually want to meet in a fansign because they wouldn´t rip you to schreads because they´re so fucking obsessed. Your mission is to make insecure people feel like they have a hope by purchasing merch and albums like crazy and you still gotta be their hero, because you are the great bts. And still, you´re told to reply their comments through Weverse. Their image of “ooh, Big hit lets them date, they are so permissive, they care so much for us, they had a break so they become healthier, and oh yeah when is the next comeback? They can feel some type of affection to the people that made their wishes come true and they truly feel thankful for our support, and that´s the only “love” there is between army and them. Do you really think that when BTS disbands they´ll be like “army, we purple you, love is forever”, no, they´ll be at home fucking their wife and travelling the world as the wealthy guys they´ll be. So drop the “they´ve changed” thing, please.Their music is too commercialAnother one. Now i just feel like im repeating myself. Commercial songs are nothing new. Artists, especially famous ones, do it all the time. They are famous. They know that whatever track they upload, even if its trash, will end up being a bop because its them singing it. Armys, dont get butthurt, we know this. Its nothing new. If you dont like commercial stuff, dont blame it on bts, heck, everyone does this. Don´t blame us for stanning a somewhat “generic” group because today´s music is trash anyway. We just think bts is the best option out there, and i can give plenty of reasons of why they are the best option among the rest of generic kpop groups or western groups in general. Tons of people bash on us for being commercial and go away and listen to other generic groups that they consider to have more talent. Just don´t bash on us. Hating on us doesnt make your group any better or your personality any wiser. Bashing is just pure hate. Bts is succesfull for a wide range of reasons. Butthurt? Go home and cry to your mother. Don´t bash on mature fans for no reason because we have plenty of actual reasons to stan a group that represents lots of healthy things compared to other groups. WE KNOW BTS IS SOMEWHAT GENERIC AND COMMERCIAL. We are not stupid, but we like it. It is our taste. Haters are basically implying our music taste is trash and generic pop is a genre like any other and it makes you wanna get up and dance. Is there anything wrong with wanting to get up and dance? Because i can drop my reasons for you: it secretes endorphines, it makes you exercise, the enthusiasm makes you happy. For a while. Generic pop makes you happy for a while, and we like it. There´s nothing wrong with liking generic pop just because it doesnt sound like 80s music. I like 80s music, i love it. My dad has a record player and we sing a long to the “whitest black” artists and enjoy watching 80s movies (Ghostbusters ost is a blast), and he has already digested that im into bts. And he has 0 problems with it. All kpop groups and western artists are gonna end up the same anyway. And as for artists like Adèle and Ed Sheeran, who put more “effort” into their music have been tagged as real artists and “not like these dumb generic groups”. Okay, give me a break. There are a lot of music styles, i think that only people with real taste in music can judge, and i will say many people are wrong here by comparing bts´s music style to another music style that has nothing to do with it. Just give me a break. There are groups that are truly untalented and are just used to make money based on pointless songs and i also dont like it, but i have an argument in bts´s favor here. Bts is involved in the producing of their songs, and if at least they´re gonna produce “generic pop songs”, its good that they write and compose their songs. What does being “too comercial” mean? Do their songs talk about bitches, booties, parties, bashing on everyone? Are their songs 100% based on boring and pointless beats that anyone could make with a machine? Okay, im gonna have to say you´re right on commercial music not being the best out there, but it isn´t bad either. I repeat, we know what type of music bts produces were not stupid. It´s just the best option we have and you should really respect that if you unlike bts. I get the people that dislikes bts, i would also be annoyed by a pop group spreading all over the world while my favourite indie rock band hasnt reached 100.000 yet. Really, i get it. I dislike stanning pop, a lot. The only reason i dont want to stan Monsta x like a friend of mine told me to, is because i know everyone is gonna end up the same way and this is a fact. Last point, why bts and not any other group that deserves more attention and more likes? Why the generic group and not my talented group? Why is the world so unfair? Answer: image. There you go. Pissed? I like the image they give and i like it how kids look up to people like bts and want to improve. If they are mature, they will learn how to avoid the “spending money on useless stuff just because its bts” thing, avoid inmature fans, avoid the criticism, and to learn that if something makes you happy, then there´s nothing wrong in stanning bts rather than a humble group of the bottom. As a second option, you can become multishipper and help all of your favourite groups. But then there´s the fans that get pissed and that´s a whole other issue i won´t talk about just now.There´s something i wanna talk about here. Many people also stop stanning bts because of their change. BTS´s music has, indeed, changed, and there is nothing wrong about it, but it is even less wrong that people dislike the genre (especially if they put trust into the group and had a subjective perspective and resulted in deceivement). Guys, seriously, stop trying to make their opinions change. It is very annoying when you dislike a group and someone who has no idea about you starts trying to make you change your mind. There isn´t a tactic that could fail more; instead, it just makes you wanna send hate to them, and it´s wrong, but understandable. Just let them be, or is it maybe that you dont have solid reasons to state why you stan the group and you feel like you have to convince someone else? If that´s your problem here, let me give you a free explanation for all those hateful losers that could be picking on you for liking bts: it makes you happy! And then you shut up everyone else up. My favourites are the Run era ones, where alternative Taehyung kills his dad and Jungkook is picked on the streets. Compared to Idol MV, there´s a huge gap. Now listen. Read Idol´s lyrics and analyze them, the beat, the rythm. Do you think that the song is gonna have a deep soul video about life problems? It´s a song to roast haters. It´s an anthem for the group, the typical generic bop that reaches 100M and everyones forgets in a couple years. We all know this, even bts. I dont think the purpose of this song was to put heart and soul into it and there´s nothing wrong with it. It´s just different from the type of music you´ve been used to, that´s all. So if the music changes, the music videos also change. Euphoria´s MV isn´t at all that bad. There´s good in the bad and bad in the good. Get over it. Evolution, guys. BTS evoluted and so did their music and so did their videos. Guys, HYYH is over! That doesnt mean BTS wont release good songs anymore, yet music videos. Boy With Luv was the type of bop that Idol was, so don´t expect much from the video either.The vocal line being weak (and some rapper line talking)Let´s have a talk about the vocal line. Compared to the rapper line, it´s actually pretty weak. Not bad. But weak (this goes out to all delusional fans who brag about how they are the best singers out there; give me a break and listen to Stand By Me by Ben E. King and tell me later). Guys, you gotta admit this. BTS wasnt created to become an international vocal revolution. It was made to please fans like us! (And i repeat, there´s nothing wrong, what is wrong is to yell out that they´re the best) Trust me, if some honest fan spoke up about this, the members deep inside would think: this is not the point here… Because being the best singer isnt the point of BTS!)Moving on to the analyzing, Jin seems like he has a little trouble singing. He´s got trouble hitting high notes and seriously needs a vocal coach as well as Jimin and Taehyung. His voice cracks and i honestly think he needs some dedication but with all of those busy darn schedules the man doesn´t even have time to breathe. I´m not even surprised, to be honest. Jimin´s voice has improved a lot, but still needs a vocal coach if he wants a good voice to be proud of. He reaches high notes and that´s good, but it needs work to transmit some emotion in his singing and I honestly barely feel anything when he sings. As for Taehyung, he needs urgent, urgent vocal coaching, because the music he is starting to produce is quite underrated, and he needs a decent good voice to match his music level. If his music is improving, so has to do his voice. Or if not, he shouldn´t make money from music at all. After all, Taehyung is an actor. He has a couple options, I´d say.Seriously, fans need to stop bragging on about how they are the best singers in the world because 1. it´s not true and 2. they were initially a hiphop group with amazing rapping skills. I´m definitely keeping up with Suga if he´ll be releasing songs like he did when he released Agust D. But… RM´s solo career, honestly… it isn´t good. Not at all. Not “Change” or “Seoul Town Road”. Really, it makes me feel like we lost Rap Monster there. But you know what is the problem? If he released good songs like we all know he can release, no one would click the “view” button. It´s the price of the fame, guys. IMAGE.Hoseok hasn´t changed that much though. He is good at dancing, thing which hasnt changed and comed in handy, and despite his good mood being sometimes forced, I don´t really have quite that much to say about him. Honestly he´s the only one who could have told his younger self: “You nice, keep going!”About RM. The second bts was all about singing, which they are very weak at, things kind of lost the point of it all. Or they improve their vocal skills or they go back to rapping because honestly, having RM sing in the newest songs makes me wanna skip his voice. It´s the fucking truth guys! No one enjoys him singing, they can like it to some extent, but not enjoy it. His best lines, in my opinion, was his part in songs like Cypher. This all new RM concept just doesn´t give him more talent. It just takes away from him. His leader role and intentions are a whole another thing, but that´s another discussion.As for Suga, i´m practically scared. He´s got a lot of talent. He produces his music. He is locked in his own room for hours, working while the others are busy with other things. His mixtape Agust D is actually good and i wish he makes music like this for a lot of time but honestly with seesaw and we dont talk together, i´m freaked out. Seesaw is enjoyable to some extent but it´s not his level of good. Suga has a lot of potential and could do big things on his own. Ditch fame and work on your potential, dude. Life´s got big things planned for you if you make the right decisions. But as i said before, success is all about image. We´ll have to see what this guy has in mind.As for Jungkook, I think he was born to become what he is today. He has good staging and his dancing is very good, but the only thing i´ll say about Jungkook is that with some vocal coaching he would nail it. He is very good but he can be even better. He could nail a lot of songs and actually become a good singer. It´s all about work, but judging by his nule solo works (only covers) he´s still having a think about this all. When trying to create something, he gets distracted by other things and i honestly think he needs some sense of responsibility. I don´t think he is drunk in power, but he is careless in this point.They are overratedWe´re nearly done.I think bts is overhyped by some fans. Sure, we all love this bts concept of self-love and we like that they encourage us to be better people…But guys. It´s not like they are the best shit out there. It´s annoying. I am a bts fan, and i have been creeped out several times by exaggerating fans saying that bts are gods or that they deserve the world or “look at them looking like a three course meal” gosh… it´s embarassing even for me. And for the mature fans who think they are this supreme group that are super talented and tops any other category… They don´t. We stan them because a series of factors but most of all because they make us happy. People hate us because inmature fans in our fandom bash on everyone who dislikes bts (because they changed their music style and are no longer “relatable”), but to some point they are right and it´s one thing: it´s their fucking opinion! BTS isnt that good anyways. Hear me out: i didn´t say it isnt good, just not that good. It´s good that a modern-music group encourages things unlike other groups and we should be thankful for that. We can´t change the fact that a portion of our fandom is inmature but we can keep being mature ourselves and realize that BTS isnt the next Queen or the next Beatles. They´re just our version of the Backstreet Boys, just that with modern music. Both had the same point: making money. Music nowadays has changed and we can´t expect groups made to make money to do masterpieces. Boybands give enthusiasm and makes us happy, and we are lucky that BTS is somewhat different from other generic groups, just be happy with that and let the people who dislike BTS be. The reason they became a sensation. The reason they're on top. Why them? Really, why them? Their songs seems so pointless and they dress in expensive clothes and they sell stuff like cra-Guys. A lot of people can't realize the things that the group has to offer. It's a whole lot; BTS has a whole lot to offer and they are working very hard to be in the level the world expects them to. I used to hate Fake Love until some weeks ago. I listened to the lyrics once, because I was curious, and I've never seen the song the same way again.Let me make this understandable. Let's go to the principles of design: simplicity, less is more, something practical to give people what they need. Right? Okay. Well, that's exactly the point in here. Steve Jobs invented the iPods and Macs, and gathered people to make them and created the company. The owner of Amazon had a storage room and came up with the idea of creating a huge storage room for people to buy online and get it to their homes the fastest way possible. Mark Zukerberg created Facebook, the first social media to let people connect to one another despite the continent. So my question is… What do they all have in common? What made them successful? What got them to the top? The genius. The idea. The fact that they gave people exactly what they needed. Steve Jobs made Apple. Amazon gave people a fast and effective way to buy online. Mark Zuckerberg let people communicate with each other in a form of social media. It's easy to understand.All of these successful people gave the people exactly what they wanted, and they got it.Now that you understand this I want to state that BTS's music is something else. It's not better. It doesn't need to be the best out there; it just needs to give people exactly what they need: something to hold on to. Even today, BTS continues to make relatable lyrics and deep and meaningful messages that surprise me. Honestly. I thought that these guys would pack their things this summer and leave. But no. They know what they have done, it works, and they're going to continue it until the end. Honestly, call me crazy, but BTS could be actually a good business. There could be further generations of BTS along the years. Really. Call me crazy but people would still listen to them. Why? Because BTS's lyrics in a world where people are not too demanding in musical quality gives them exactly what they want and need.And it works. People love them like crazy.
