I’m north of the 10th anniversary of my 50th birthday. But honestly, I stopped keeping track.In my early 20’s I was in college, partying, going to class with hangovers, breaking up with girlfriends and in a way having fun but never really happy. I worried about the future, regretted the past and too often missed enjoying the present.In my mid 20’s I was newly married figuring out life with my wife. Life was filled with work, bills, and hoping the month ran out before the money did. We enjoyed marriage but I still too often worried about our future and missed enjoying the present.In my 30’s I was running several businesses and going through a bankruptcy of one. We were raising our kids with all the fun, chaos and exhaustion. We enjoyed family times but I still too often worried about our future and missed sometimes enjoying the present.In my 40’s I pastored a church. Our kids were growing and life was busy. Pastoring was filled with a lot of personal satisfaction and little financial reward. We enjoyed family times but I still too often worried about our future and sometimes missed out on the present.In my 50’s I started my current business. Our kids headed off to college and I was busy building my business. We enjoyed less frequent family times but treasured them more. I still too often worried about our future and sometimes missed out on the present.In my 60’s my I continued building my business in the midst of two recessions. We had sporadic times with our kids and treasured each moment. I still worried about our future but less frequently. And occasionally missed out on the present.Today, my business operates on semi-autopilot. We plan and treasure times with our kids and grandkids. We enjoy good health and are living the dream we worked hard to achieve. I rarely worry and focus mainly on enjoying the present, moment by moment.So what’s the best kept secret of 70? For me, that it’s the best yet.Your 70’s can be the best time of life as you proactively create it.
