PDF Editor FAQ
What would you do if a passenger on an airplane demanded your seat so they could be next to a family member?
I don’t take well to orders or ultimatums, nor to arrogant entitlement.I also tend to plan ahead and buy tickets as far beforehand as possible, as I’m rather particular about where I sit. I’ve recently developed a preference for the aisle since I’ve been riding on a lot of smaller planes and I have long limbs. I don’t fit well in the window seat of smaller planes and I hate the middle. So…I have my nice 2nd or 3rd row aisle seat. Some kid is next to me. Some woman stops in the aisle next to me. “That’s my kid. You need to switch seats with me.”No. I don’t. If she’d just asked, and her seat wasn’t one I’d just hate, I’d have been inclined to agree. I get it. You want to sit next to your kid. Makes sense to me.But you were a bitch right off the bat. So no.But miss bitch insists. She says it’s my fault that boarding is being held up. Bullshit. It’s not my ass blocking the aisle. So I would call a flight attendant. Inform her of the scenario. And assuming that the alternate seat isn’t too onerous, I would advise the flight attendant that I can see two possible solutions. Miss bitch can buy my seat from me, or she can convince whomever her ticketed neighbor would be to switch seats, and have her kid move back with her. Either solution would satisfy me.For all those people who are going to whine and comment that I could have been “nice”, that all went out the window when the parent issued a demand. I am not willing to tolerate this behavior, from either children or adults. I will not reward it. I will cut a deal, but I won’t just roll over. I don’t want to encourage that sort of behavior, because it won’t stop.If you allow that sort of behavior to be successful, then it will continue. So no. She has two ways to get what she wants. It’s up to her how she’ll get it, or if she’ll suck it up and live with the consequences of her poor planning.Original question-What would you do if a passenger on an airplane demanded your seat so they could be next to a family member?
Why do ultra-wealthy people rarely share their wealth with their friends?
I’m not ultra-wealthy. But in a relative sense, I’m ultra-wealthy compared to a friendly acquaintance of mine. “Friendly acquaintance” is a description that’s short of “friend,” in part because of the story I’m about to tell.I know this guy, call him Bob, from playing chess at Harvard Square. Bob isn’t quite homeless, but he’s damn close. What I like about chess is that Bob’s economic status has nothing to do with his social status (among chess players). He’s by no means shunned; he’s a well-liked member of the scene. But when it gets to that point in the night and 10 of us want to go to a restaurant, those who can’t afford the restaurant are unfortunately excluded. That’s Bob.There was a time, when that part of the night rolled up, I would discreetly tell Bob “come hang out with us, I got you at the restaurant.” Bob would be suitably grateful, and the fun would continue. After a few of those, Bob started to become a little… emboldened. Eventually, it wasn’t a question of waiting until when (or if) the crowd organically went to eat. It started with “yo Charles, check this out….” Then I’d get a little bit of a sob story, and the ask: “so could you help me out with a burrito until I get paid next Wednesday?” Then the sob story dropped, and it was just, “yo Charles, help me out with some pizza.” Sometimes within minutes of me showing up to the Square. The last straw was when another mutual friend and chess player, Bill, joined us at a restaurant. Bill was also often strapped for cash. To be sure, Bill didn’t ask for anything, he was just tagging along socially.Bob gets to the counter and orders like 3 meals, and then calls to Bill from the line: “Yo, you want anything? Charles got it!”Suffice it to say, our relationship cooled a little after that.It wasn’t that I couldn’t afford to keep buying Bob food. It’s just that after some time — a pretty short amount of time — he appeared to see me more as a cash register than anything else. And that doesn’t work for me.I have every confidence that story scales up. I’m wealthy enough to buy the Bobs of my world extra burritos all day, every day. Other people might be wealthy enough to buy their friends cars all day, every day. And who knows, maybe they have. And I’m willing to bet that they’ve turned some friends into some Bobs along the way.“Yo dude, help me out with a Tesla…”
Police officers, have you ever dealt with anything paranormal or unexplainable?
One of my friends is a Police Officer and has been working in the Department for the last 20 years or so. He is known to be an officer of probity and has earned a good number of rewards in recognition of his splendid performace in bringing the culprits to justice- involved in various heinuous crimes and the offences with regards to the social vices. In short, he is a thorough professional and considered to be an asset to the Police Department.A couple of year ago, he was selected to undergo a “Departmental Course”, compulsory for the next promotion. The Police Training College he supposed to join in, for the said course, was quite infamous especially for supernatural and paranormal activities. I mean it is still said to be a haunted Police Training Campus. Some 2 year back, I watched a famous weekly Television Show, which features ghost stories with a Team of Experts- set out to explore and investigate such spooky and haunted places by using scientific equipments. The hosts of this Show play one of the recordings they collected while filming overnight relating to an auditory whiny scratches, weird sounds and blurry images as paranormal phenomenon. The Team of this television program paid a visit to the said police training compus as well, but nothing of supernatural and the presence of any frightening entity could be detected except for few beeps of electromagnetic gedgets- put on the places and spots said to have been spooked a couple of grisly encounter by the trainees. So, without further ado, lets listen to the story of my friend which I have translated it into my distinctively flawless english. (joke intended)He narrated:-Before joining the training, I had also heard a lot of tales relating to the sighting of spirits and encounters with ghosts by the trainees in the campus. Being a Police Officer, I simply turned all those accounts to deaf ear and dubbed them as rumour mongering and silly pranks played by some mischievious rookie. However, I joined the Training College to undergo an extremely hard and lengthy professional course. The campus was already crowded with trainees, as the ongoing training session, comprised of more than 2000 Police Personnel right from the lower rank of Constables to that of Inspectors belonged to the different parts of the country. The Commandant of the Training Campus was an Officer of DIGP rank. He ordered to formulate 60 platoon consisting of 33 Officers and Officials in each platoon. The barracks and rooms were also allotted to the Trainees. The Officers of senior ranks like me were allotted rooms wherein 5 Officers could be adjusted easily in each room.We used to get up, on the whistle blow, before dawn e.g. at 04:AM and prepared ourselves to take places for the formation of platoons on the ground to start physical training (PT). After PT, we would give a respite of 30 minutes by the platoon’s commanders (trainers). Within those available 30 minutes, we had to manage breakfast, shavings and attiring of full uniform, with proper turn out, for a 2 hours of parade-ground drill. After falling out from the parade-ground we had to move faster to our barracks/rooms to pick up noting pads and books of jurisprudence to attend law classes that would last from 09:30 AM to 01: PM.Having finished with the law classes we turned our directions to the Officers’ Mess-Hall to make lunch and then back to the barracks and rooms for a rest of one and half hour. From 03:30 PM to 06:PM, we had to drop ourselves to the ground again for evening parade besides to learn combating tactics or professional skills. This happened to be the last tactical event of the day other than the careful inspection of discipline and attendence of all the 2000 trainees assembled in the ground at 07:15 PM, to ensure their presence in the training campus. This process in the training terms known as a Roll Call, where important orders and messages from highups were passed on to the trainees to follow them strictly. We were not even allowed to leave or venture out of the campus premises under any circumstances, except in special cases, as the surprise check roll call could have been summoned at any moment and those found absent in the roll call had to go through the punishments. After Roll Call we had to make diner in Mess-Hall and then retired to our barracks or rooms for rest. We were ordered to switch off all the lights of barracks and rooms by 09:PM sharp. The initial days in the training campus hanged quite heavy, as the schedule of the training, discussed above, was hectic and tiresome that required more than a month to get our bumpy asses fully accustomed to such worn out physical training. The day long extremely slate breaking training, under scorching sun beams, with bird-brained law classes and extra fatigues duties-to be performed by the members of disciplined force- would rip our bodies apart. Every joint and muscle felt a contnuously blistering pain like hell. It literally disturbed our peace of mind by the repeated and disagreeable daily happening that needed a great deal of endurance to resist the wear and tear.Under such a physically exhausted and mentally drained situation, we didn’t have anything to think about, except to throw ourselves on the bed to catch a sound sleep, let alone the thought of ghosts. I often used to think as if we were serving imprisonment as an act of committing some crime against humanity. But we could do nothing except to pass out the training, mandatory, for the next rank of promotion. The days in the campus were moving past and we too became habituated to the busy schedule of training from dawn to dusk. For a reference let me make it clear that our training campus was not located in the heart of the city, it was rather situated at an isolated place, I mean, far from the main centres of population. However, it really didn’t mean that there was no human population within the proximity of the campus. It literally did but couple of small villages only.I can think of a few strange happening probably in my second month of training, as the room I was sharing- with four other colleagues or batchmates of mine- had a sizable space and we all had separate beds. What unexplainable and unusual occurrence, we started to observe; our stuff would go missing and come into sight on different places, like under our bed, or below the pillow, in cupboard and inside the bag that we had locked up before leaving the room to attend the training events.Thats really no big deal, right.??I mean human error and all that. Then came the instance that made me to believe that whatever I had heard about this training campus was not based on rumours and pranks, but an undeniable truth. One day at night after turning off lights, we all laid on our beds. My other room-mates were busy on their phones texting friends and talking to their families. Since, I had already talked to my family and thus moving passively to sleep. Suddenly, one of my colleagues heard the shuffling of feet outside of the room.He thought it to be a foot patrolling officer- usually deployed at night to check the trainees’ barracks and rooms so as to make sure that the lights were off and trainees slept. He alerted us and we all quickly hid our phones under the pillows, rolled over on sides and behaved to make it appear as if we fell asleep. While we were acting like this, my colleague heard someone at the other side of the bed saying,“Koyyee baat nahhi, kabb takk sonnay ka bahhaa’na karro gayy.?? Aik din toh tumhein Aaiyyenna dekh’na hee parrayy ga” (Don't mind, how long you would continue to pretend sleep.?? One day you will have to see the mirror)”I could have dismissed this as a work of his imagination, except about four other room-mates heard it as well, including me. Creepier still as no one was there, and it was the voice of a female who uttered these words. To make matter freakier, when we came back from our weekend leave, there was a bunch of a female hair on my colleague’s bed, neatly bundled up, long and dark brown. Under his pillow was a note: -“Kiyya Mai aapko yaadd hooon.??” (Did you remember me).We contacted the Chief Drill Instructor (CDI) and explained him about the whole event. He said that there were no female recruits or personnel in the training campus, besides our rooms were locked up for the weekend leave. The foot patrolling Officers had also performed their duties with utmost honesty and they had no idea that the incident happened. We never spoke about it after that evening. One of my platoon fellows- who lived in a room just adjecent to mine- came in and asked me to watch a movie on his mobile tablet, which he claimed to have done an earth shattering business at Indian Box Office. Since, I and he had performed a camp duty- after participating in all the morning to noon events- from 03: PM to 11: PM, therefore, we were given a complete rest for the next day. Thus, I watched that movie by using wireless headphones to avoid disturbance for my other room-mates. We stayed up till 03: AM. After watching the movie, we chatted for a while and then he went back to his room for a sleep.A few minute later, he burst into my room and asked me as to what I was doing. I really got confused because I was just lying in my bed and reading the book of jurisprudence. He said that he heard very weird noises coming out of the window, which he thought I made to scare him or something. I went to his room to see what had actually happened which scared him to boot.Believe me, when I entered in his room, it sounded as though someone is breathing heavily with a mild wailing grunt. I did hold my wits and told him it was nothing but the noises of wind. When I opened the window, it literally gave me fear and panic to see that the trees were calm and still. I could also smell a foul stench in the room that raised my hair and chilled my bone. Anyways, since his other room-mates were performing camp duty, I therefore, had to stay with him that night.Once, three of my roommate had been proceeded to casual leave due to certain urgent domestic reasons. So, me with my other colleague were the sole occupants of the room that night. As usual we switched off the lights and started discussing a subject called medical jurisprudence. Various aspects of homicide, suicide and different kinds of wounds also came under discussion. During the talk we didn’t realize that it had become 01: AM of the night. Accordingly, we laid on our beds and tried to sleep. Back then, I had a Samsung Glaxy smartphone .The thing with the phone’s camera button was that when you press it once, the flash appears and you have to press it again to click a picture.I was getting bored so I held my pen infront of my phone and tried clicking a picture but as it was pitch dark in the room and I had no idea where I was aiming. All I managed to click was the wall infront of my bed. The flash light was strong. I tried a second attemp and this time, when I clicked the button once and the flash appeared, my heart stopped when I saw something horrifying. That was a young woman wearing a white Kruta and long open hair. She was walking very slowly towards the exit door of the room with her head up.I barely managed to scream. My voice came out like a terrified whisper and I asked my roommate to switch on the lights. The moment that woman made an exit out of the room, I screamed out saying I saw someone in the room and it just steped out of the room. What my room-mate said, made my heart stop again. “I saw it too.!!”, he screamed. I immediately asked him to describe what did he see and bloody hell. He gave me the exact description of the woman I saw.!! My heart was beating so fast that I could hear it. We were terrified.I contacted the DSP, Headquarters of the campus but he didn’t respond to my call, probably he was asleep. I was trying to contact other responsible officers of the campus, but all my attemps yeilded nothing. My other colleagues came out of their respective rooms and had already sensed that we have had an encounter with some ghost or spirit. A couple of minute later, the DSP, Headquarters called me back and I narrated him what had happened. The DSP, kept trying to convince me saying it must have been some reflection from the wall and stuff. I was damn sure and convinced what I saw. I told him that it was a jinn in the woman form. He advised me to go to another colleagues’ room to spend the night. All this time, I was holding the Holy Qura’an tight and close to my heart, repeating all the prayers I knew over and over again. I slept with my room-mate in another room for the night. The news of this incident spread like jungle’s fire throughout the campus and also different versions of it. My buddies, batchmates and other trainees to this day, mock me about it. I laugh along with them but I know, by my heart that what I saw wasn’t my imagination. It happened and she was there.“Your Brain Is Your Beautiful Servant, But At The Same Time, It Is A Dangerous Master”\O/Peace===Nadeem Karim Khan...✍🏻
