A puppy mill will have many different types of dogs and many, many of them. They will be kept in cages and bred at each heat cycle. You will not be allowed to see this. You will be shown only select puppies. You will never see the parents. The puppies will often be interbred with their siblings or even parents. Birth defects often occur and these puppies are killed almost immediately after being born. The females do not receive proper after care and usually suffer miserably. Many die from complications. It is a horrible existence for these dogs.A puppy mill will not want you to see the filth that the mother and the puppies are living in. They might not even know which male bred the female.As a former small breeder, I had one stud, Deacon. I had two females: Morgen and Caitylin.Morgen had four litters in her lifetime. A heat cycle was skipped each year. so that she had a litter a year for four years. She was then retired and spayed.Caitylin had three litters in her lifetime. A heat cycle was also skipped for her each year. She too was retired and spayed. Neither had a litter before they were three years old.They were both retired when they were seven years old.They received prenatal care and post-natal care from our vet. The puppies were raised in our home with full human interaction for a minimum of eight weeks. Three days after birth, the mothers and the pups were vet checked. They received regular vet checks at three weeks, four weeks, six weeks, and eight weeks prior to going to their forever homes.Potential pet parents were required to come to my home to interact with the pups and the parents. Questions were asked by both myself and the potential pet parents. Upon approval for adoption, a contract was signed for the purchase of the puppy. A deposit was taken to hold the pup and a receipt was given for that deposit. No puppy was allowed to leave the litter until they were at least eight weeks old. Each puppy left fully weaned, piddle pad trained, fully vetted, and with a puppy starter kit, that had a small bag of their food with coupons for said food, piddle pads, and toys that they had played with that had the scent of their mother and litter-mates.If you go to buy a dog and are not allowed to see the parents or at least the mother, that is a red-flag.If you are buying an AKC or CKC registered puppy and cannot be provided the pedigree of the parents or at least the mother, that is a red flag.If you are not allowed to see where the puppies are being kept or raised, that is a red flag.If the puppy does not seem to be human socialized or appears afraid, that is a red flag.If you are not provided vet records, that is a red flag.Do your research when buying a puppy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to a reputable breeder for your puppy. But if you see any red-flags, look somewhere else. A good breeder, who is not a puppy mill, will have nothing to hide. They will want the best for the puppy. They will not be interested in just making money. They will be looking for red flags in you too. I have told people no before. Not everyone who walked in my door was worthy of one of my grand-pups!And by the way, I know where all thirty-one of the puppies are. I have kept in touch with the pet parents through Facebook and the Christmas card that we send each year.

Here are the systematic options to collect back full security deposit from landlordBe early and proactive: Before you vacate the property that is during the notice period. Talk to your landlord about your refund figure. Don’t wait till last date because its hectic to handle everything on last day. I mean handling packers & movers, termination inspection with landlord or broker, and argument about refund. Stand at your point and argue for your full refund. Anything not mentioned in rental agreement should not be considered. Keep friends or colleagues beside for your support.Support from society members: If the property is located in gated community, typically know as apartment. Take the issue to society members like president or secretary. Seek amicable resolution through members or write the issue in society platforms like Whatsapp group and any other communication platform to take support.Complain at local police station: Most of the police officers are supportive if your point of view is genuine. Below is one such incident happened to my client in Bangalore.One of my client is a tenant and a college student. Landlord took advantage of naive student and deducted Rs.40K from security deposit for renovation of painting and cleaning instead of Rs. 12K.As per the rental agreement, it is one month rent as renovation cost that is Rs. 12K but landlord was not convinced with tenant so tenant approached the local police station with fear and anxiety. Their police officer seems to be very gentile, comforted the tenant, listened to our issue and he immediately called the landlord to station and blasted him. I enjoyed watching at landlord’s puppy face.Complete refund came immediately without any further discussion.6. Hire a lawyer: Send legal notice to landlord for refund. It will cost you not more than Rs. 1.5K with reasonable lawyer. Spending this cost is worth recovering heft security deposit from landlord.Few important points to be considered.Don’t accept cheque from landlord at the time of termination. If you accept cheque, make sure that cheque is realized before you vacate the property.Most likely, going through court is waste of time, effort, and money. I am really enjoying all of these posts. May I also introduce you to our special little mutt, Teddy?I teach in a rather rough part of East Los Angeles. Out on break one morning, driving around so I could smoke a cigarette (I've since quit, thankfully) this little ratty looking puppy ran along the sidewalk across from the school. I was stopped at the corner stop sign watching this ugly little thing thinking, “turn away”, “ keep driving", etc. I have had a bad habit of rescuing dogs in danger, always under the guise of, “finding them a good home”. Yeah…riiiight! Doesn't happen that way. At the time, my husband and I were parents to 8 rescued dogs of various sizes, ages and personalities. We dearly loved them all but realized we could no longer comfortably bring any more home. When you're a clean freak as I am, maintaining a nice home is a full time job with that many four legged kiddos. Not to mention medications , special diets , and K9 power struggles. Back to my story...A large dog behind a fence ran toward the little orphan, growling and snarling. The puppy literally screamed and ran out into the street without looking. A car driving by narrowly missed hitting him by inches. The puppy continued to yelp and cry running full speed now on my side of the street away from where I was. I muttered “shit” under my breath, pulled over, opened my door and yelled, “Hey Pup?” He was a good half a block ahead of me. Like a cartoon character, the dirty little puppy put on his “brakes” and almost went tail over head in his attempt to stop. He turned his little head in my direction and without any hesitation, clumsily bounded directly over to me. He was without fear and i swear to God, it looked like he was literally smiling! He threw on his brakes again at my feet and his whole little dirty body was wagging because it was attached to his happy, spastic tail. He then took it upon himself to jump right into my car and onto the passenger seat like he belonged there, still smiling the whole time. I was stunned! What the heck? This was like no animal I'd ever rescues before! This little guy was certainly something special. The picture below was at the end of his first day in our home after a bath and some puppy food. Look at that face! Those lopsided little ears! He had me at hello. Oh…I found him a good home alright…ours!My husband was not thrilled when he heard the news. Who am I kidding? He was angry! Within five minutes of meeting the little flea bitten mutt, predictably, he too was smitten.I have filled a notebook with Teddy stories. He was approximately 6 weeks old when I found him and this is the fourth year he's been in our home. I won't bore you with all my “proud momma stories” but I would like to share one exceptional example of this dog's abilities and personality. He loves to go with us anywhere in the car and usually got his way. I stopped off briefly at my credit union one morning. I parked right in front of the door turned the car off but left the ignition on so the air conditioner would continue to run for Teddy. I was just making a quick deposit and knew I could see him the whole time through the glass . All of the sudden a car horn was blaring off and on and there was Teddy, with both paws on the steering wheel, hopping up and down, sounding the horn while he barked! Everyone there, me included, stared in disbelief at what was happening, just as I was called to the teller. Transacting my business as quickly as possible, I was also “shushing” him (as if he could hear me and understand my hand gestures… Uh huh…) Thankfully the noise subsided . A few seconds later, the security guard said, “Hey lady! Your dog!” I panicked thinking something terrible had happened. I turned to leave, almost forgetting my receipt, just as the guard opened the door and Teddy trotted over to me, tail, no… body wagging, wearing his proverbial smile , and very pleased with himself. Somehow he managed to push the automatic window button down, jump out of the locked car and charm his way inside! Every time I go into there since, they asked me how Teddy is doing.In addition, this little clown keeps a daily inventory of all his prized toys, and if one is missing none of us can rest until it is located, almost always by him. He then uses said toys as bargaining tools when he's trying to bribe us into giving him bites of our food or to draw our attention away from phones, computers or other animals.Every morning he greets all of his adopted brothers and sisters methodically with the little lick to their faces. It’s the cutest thing and it's sometimes looks like they all line up in anticipation. He was the last to join our rag tag little family yet he’s appointed himself alpha male, almost from day one. Even our intimidating, crabby and solitary Pitbull fell victim to his beautiful, loving and playful spirit.One morning last January our little boy woke up from between my husband and I on our bed and he couldn't move. We were barely able to process what was happening and my husband, the King of Denial said, he’s just being dramatic again. (Teddy often became “emo” in order to get hugs and baby talk, but this was different.) What was going on? He was the youngest after all! Some of his siblings were in their teens with many health problems, etc. Denial soon faded and we were panicked, frightened and completely baffled. Several hours later after vet assessment and MRI, we were told Teddy's disc had ruptured and the fluid was literally eating away at his spinal cord. We were told we literally had minutes, not hours, to get him into surgery which was 45 miles away or else he would die. Each second that passed meant that much more of a spinal cord was being damaged. It's hard to remember specifics because it’s all hazy like a bad dream but somehow he got him into surgery and after a week-long hospital stay, six weeks of bed rest at home (nearly impossible with Mr. Playful here), physical therapy and tons of love ,we got our little boy back.The neurosurgeon, Dr. Kim and West Coast Specialty Hospital were amazing! Teddy healed better-than-expected and regained 80% of his mobility and former self. He wears a back brace for support but he's none the worse for wear and tear. He continues to run our household and we are thankful for every day that we have with him. Dogs like him, with long backs and short legs are very susceptible to getting Intravertebral Disc Degeneration (IVDD) and the risk of this happening again will always be there. We’re always torn between letting him romp and play with his adopted siblings and risk another rupture or keep him confined and quiet to prevent it. We walk that tightrope everyday because the Teddy we know and love would never, ever be happy being treated like glass. Just try taking his ball away and see what happens! The game of chase and tag is on and you’ll probably lose!I continue to record all of Teddy's antics and mischief-making. I hope to write a children's book or memoir one day because everyone who ever meets Teddy is amazed by his human qualities, mischief making and extrodinary abilities. They fall immediately and hopelessly in love with our funny little mutt just as we did!
