Absolutely. In every occasion I’ve had to deal with them — I have either encountered rudeness, or been given incorrect information. I have paid an immigration lawyer, to answer simple questions, because I’d get a different answer every time I asked.But sometimes, they’re both rude AND give out incorrect information.The worst case, was when I went to get an I-134 form from the LA INS office (1993, so it was still called INS). This is the form that acknowledges financial responsibility for an immigrant; it was for my stepdaughter, who had already been approved. I was acting on the direct instructions of the US embassy in Tokyo — who I discovered were far easier to deal with than the INS — helpful, accurate, proactive in ensuring I knew what I needed to know — and faster turnaround, despite via fax and the time zone difference.So here I am, waiting in line for the form. Long wait. I finally reach the window (the only open window), and ask for the form.The agent behind the window starts grilling me. Asks a bunch of irrelevant questions, which I patiently answer.After several minutes of this, he tells me I can’t have the form. I insist I am following the instructions of the embassy, that she’s already been approved, etc.He starts yelling at me.I just want the form.He starts yelling that I’m going to jail.I insist that’s not at all the case.This keeps going on for about 10 minutes. Very loud, much anger in this one.Finally, I wear him down, and he gives up. Gives me the form.At this point, the former long line has extended down the hall, out the door, down the block, around the corner, and down the cross street.I kid you not. While this guy was not handing me a perfectly ordinary form, abusing me, he was also subjecting all these other people to outrageous waits — and the prospect of similar treatment at his hands.Before I left, I filed a complaint — something I’m sure non-citizens would be too intimidated to do. But I never heard back from them on it — nothing.Consider this — what kind of person seeks a job with immigration? Someone who loves immigrants? Not a chance.No, it attracts people who hate immigrants. Hate humanity. By and large, these are NOT good people.If more Americans actually experienced dealing with these people, I predict attitudes would change considerably.
