I bought the house we are in now exactly 10 years ago in “as is” condition. In fact this was the entire listing:“Seller and agents make no representations and warranties. Sold as is.”The house is in a fairly upscale suburb, and was about 15 years old at the time. There was plenty of cosmetic damage — water damage on the hardwood floors, a filthy kitchen, holes in some drywall, a half-full leaky pool clogged with algae. Plus the interior and exterior were just sad looking, with ugly brown paint and outdated stained oak stairs.But the funny thing was that no matter how carefully I looked, I could not see any actual serious problems. In fact, it was a bank repossession, and I eventually figured out that since it looked so bad they just assumed there were real problems, and they listed it the way they did to avoid any liability. Over 100 people looked at the house, and we were the only ones who put in an offer, and we got it way (way!) under the asking price, which is rare in Toronto.I was planning on doing a full renovation anyhow, so I didn’t care about the drywall and flooring. The entire kitchen went in the dumpster. This question misunderstands what i3s and i5s are.i3s and i5s are scrapped i7s. In many product lines, i3s and i5s are exactly the same chip as the i7 in that product line. The question is, how much of the chip works?I encourage you (highly) to read Jacob VanWagoner's answer to How does Intel design and produce so many models of CPUs?What's different between them?Cherry picking, really. Do 4 cores work after fabrication? If no, then it has to be an i3 or a non-quad mobile. How much of the manufactured cache works? It can only be sold as an i7 if enough of the cache works, but if less than that works it may still be sellable as an i5 or i3. If it runs fast with low voltage, it goes as a laptop processor. If it consumes little power at a higher voltage and can run fast, it goes as a server processor. Otherwise, as long as it stays under consumer TDP requirements, it gets sold as a desktop processor. And which ones they're sold as will depend more finely upon speed/power requirements.If Intel stopped making i3s and i5s what they would be doing is throwing the CPUs that didn't pass muster to be i7s in the bin... a complete and total waste. It's not in Intel's interest to do this at all.
