Do online personal trainers work?

YES!Online personal training is on the boom for the last two years primarily because of the users seeking more convenient options at home rather than giving excuses of not being able to go to a gym due to multiple reasons.Especially during COVID times, the entire fitness industry has moved online. It has become important for trainers to train online using multiple existing tools and software. While the majority of them still use WhatsApp and google sheets.Just to give credibility to my answer, I have lost 25kgs in lockdown by gaining good muscle by working out from home ONLY because of my online personal trainer.Get a well-certified trainer and you are good.Gone are the days wherein it was necessary for you to go to the gym to get fit. In this decade you can literally workout from anywhere and everywhere with the help of online personal trainers.

What should one do in their 20s to avoid regrets in their 30s and 40s?

That period between 25-29 has to be the most worrisome part of adult life. You worry about so much. Your dreams, a life partner, finances, the future, your parents getting old. Everything. When you are 20–25, you still somehow believe that you gonna have a great future and you’ll be rich. When you are 25-30, you start realising that this is not the case.Very easy to fall in depression or develop anxiety disorders. Its true. I am happier now at 30 going to 31 than in my 25s. Because I finally cut some slack for myself. Because I realized nothing goes as we plan and there is no point in stressing out about things you can’t control.Today you have everything, tomorrow you have nothing. Someone will always have more than you, but someone will always have less than you.Count your blessings. Family (if they are good), dear friends, health, food on the table, roof over your head etc. When someone you love gets seriously sick, you realize the chase for money, houses, cars, carreer means nothing. All you want is that person to be ok and you would give everything. One thing I can tell is that people tend to over-react and over-think a few things.Don’t over dramatise things!Keep it simple, you're an adult, plan your life, look at your income, your monthly expenses, create a budget sheet, make sure to stick to it and make some savings. Then make the rest of your decisions (having a baby, moving to a new apt, getting a new car, medical bills...etc.) based on that.If you're troubled with finances, suck it up and find a part-time job. If your skills only allow you to work in one job then you've failed.Actively work on improving yourself and picking up new skills (programming, graphic design, web development, personal training...etc.) and use that for other sources of revenue. The final advice would be,"The first thing you do after waking up should be making your bed". (Jordan Peterson).Best advice ever. Achieving such a small goal can set your mind frame up for the day.Goodluck.

How have you successfully lost a large amount of weight?

How did I lose a large amount of weight?Answer: "Discipline"I followed this religiously for 5 months. It was not easy to wake up at 5am every morning. Especially when I am supposed to be in bed dreaming away during my courtship period !I was not serious when my parents and relatives pleaded me to do something about my extra baggage all these years. My wedding was fixed roughly around this time last year in an arranged marriage setup. Engagement followed sooner and I was in bits when I saw the photographs! I was nothing but a round football in all the pictures. It then dawned on me that all of them around me had been kind enough not to comment on my face about how bad I was looking that day!The transformation process started when my fiancé handed me a gym package with personal training as an engagement gift. I was wondering why he trusted that a lazy ass like me should be gifted this!He had been gymming for 7 years already and trusted my lazy bone to do the same.Yes, this coming from a ‘stranger’ who I thought knew me for barely a month!Yes, it was humiliating for me at first.Yes, it was embarrassing to read the BMI and other parameters on sheet with him.Yes, I warned him that my buffalo fat and skin may not change, whatsoever.Yes, it my guts churned each time I saw people who ran effortlessly at 10-12km/hr whilst I grasped for breaths at 6km/hr.Yes, I cursed my trainer each time he asked me to repeat a set of exercises. How can I forget the mountainous feel of my belly each time I did a leg raise? How can I forget the cheeky grin I got from a friend when I struggled with 5 burpees at a stretch?Well, I proceeded with the thought : “whatever happens, is for the good” !I was frustrated at the struggle I had to put up every morning and out of depression, chopped off my wonderful long locks to end up in a tiny pony on the 31st of December 2016 only to receive a stare from all in the gym wondering, if I had gone mad!December 10th 2016 was the day I started my tryst with the gym. I gave up on all junk food. Even though I have never had a voracious appetite for junk, I gave up the lil bits that I cherished.January 10th 2017 was a test for me. It was the date when the monthly parameters check was done. I was not sure if I could meet my fiance’s eyes after the results were displayed.I had mentally decided to jump off the building if my weight had remained the same :P (kidding)Voila, 3 kgs off!I was silently dancing in my mind. There was no looking back after that. Our courtship lasted 5 months and instead of celebrating engagement anniversaries on the 4th of every month, we celebrated Gymmerversaries on the 10th of every month!Every 10th, my fiance would bring home a royal spread of my favorite food from all corners of Bangalore. Each time I was tempted to cheat, I recollected the happiness on his face when I told him about another kilo I had shot off myself .I finally stood 10kilos lighter on my reception, in a dreamy gold lehenga.I had never dreamt in my wildest dreams that the “Fatso”, the “Motu” I had been titled could ever stand there confident in a lehenga!I have been married for 3 months and I chose to click a picture in the same attire I wore last Ganesh Chathurti. It has been three months since I have been married and I am happy that I have maintained the same weight as I was the last day of rigorous gymming.Sharing a ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture: (Ganesh Chaturthi 2016 and 2017 respectively):The only lesson I have learnt in this journey is:“No one gives a damn to the reasons why you have not achieved something”In addition to the wide frame I already had, I had my own share of skin allergies to fight- in particular- Diabolic Eczema. The medication was strong with the tiny amounts of steroids that had me bloating- non stop. But, nobody cares.I was lucky that the medication has stopped and I never have to bloat on purpose! It has been tough to get back to the gym after marriage with the new home n a new schedule to match. My husband encourages me to get back to the gym sooner. I don’t know how he believes in me; more than I do, about myself!I hope to upload a 2018 picture with a smaller frame :P
