Social Sciences is kind of an umbrella term for several specific subjects. It includes psychology, sociology, human development, criminal justice, women’s studies, anthropology, history, political science. At the University I plan to attend, you can major in one of these topics specifically, or you can choose to earn a general “social sciences” degree that focuses on two or three of the topics. People who study Social Sciences can go on to work in law enforcement, government, business/human resources, counseling, education, health and human services and may work in the public, private and non-profit sectors. It is important to find an area that speaks to you, and try to gain volunteer experience or an internship while in school. This will lead to greater likelihood of getting a job after graduation. Many students go on to graduate school for Public Affairs, Social Work, or for counseling or clinical designations. Many also go on to law school.Personally- I'm planning to major in Social Sciences, and I would like to go into Human Services Administration and/or Social Work.
