As a second year student,I went to Hyderabad on a college trip. After the trip, I had been invited on application to the summer symposium at Tata Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences- Tata Institute of Fundamental Research(TCIS-TIFR) Hyderabad, which is one of India's premier institutes for pure science research, for delivering a talk.As I was an outstation student, I had requested for an extra day’s accommodation at TIFR campus, which was graciously granted.I was allocated a shared apartment with separate rooms but a common entrance.On the morning of the previous day, I took a cab to the luxurious apartment room allocated, had a sumptuous and heavy breakfast at canteen after a long time, read some books at the library and returned to my room for a nap.Before leaving the library, I had informed my parents about the awesome books available and how I loved the place. After I returned to my room(at about 12 pm), I locked the main door and dozed off.I slept till about 9pm.After waking up, I found my phone battery drained and charged it.Soon there were frantic knocks. The guards, warden,my roommate and a couple of professors with terribly worried faces were standing outside. After I told them that I was asleep, I understood what an asshole I had been in locking the door.I returned to my room, and saw about 40–50 messages ranging from “Where are you”, to “ Please don't commit suicide”, apart from 70 calls from my parents and relatives.I then realised the enormity of the situation. My parents were worried about me committing suicide and had used their contacts to contact the director and senior authorities at TIFR.As a result, I grew really famous the next day, as ‘the boy who slept'.As my talk was on a really interesting area, many professors were interested in interacting with me and collaborating if possible.
