A phrase rather than a word, but it’s something I can hardly make myself type . . . my fingers are getting all contorted as they rebel, trying to escape having to spell it out. One . . . more . . . attempt . . .Based off of.There, I did it. I feel dirty, but I did it. I’ll have a shower in a moment.Two problems with this. Firstly, (the relatively minor one), the redundant preposition. What does the ‘of’ add to this phrase? How is ‘based off of’ better than ‘based off’? I’ll tell you. It’s not. Plus ‘Basedoffof’ sounds like an obscure Communist-era Russian poet.But secondly, and importantly, how can something be ‘based off’ something? Imagine a literal base, say the foundation of a building. The foundations are sitting there in the ground, and the builders come along to start construction work. Now, are they going to put the bricks ‘off’ the foundations? No, of course they’re bloody not; they’re going to put them ON the foundations. Aren’t they? Putting them ‘off’ the foundations would mean either that they put them on the virgin ground, rendering the foundations a waste of time and effort, or that they’re using an anti-gravity device. I’ll say it again:THEY BASE THEM ON THE FOUNDATIONS.It’s BASED ON, for crying out loud.

While there exists controversy as to who all precisely should be credited with the founding of Wikipedia, a controversy about which I care very little, there is no question who is the founder of the Wikimedia Foundation. Me. :)

They found illegal mixing of funds with a public, for profit company, the Trump Organization, sloppy or missing records, illegal payments for personal debts of the stated board members, illegal payments of fines of the Trump Organization, and other violations. This led to the dissolving of the “charity" with the requirement of paying out of remaining funds to the charities they had said they have paid money to but had not. Donald John Trump had to submit a letter acknowledging his malfeasance and a personal payment of $2 million to settle further bookkeeping discrepancies. He has been banned for life from operating a charity.His children and all other board members are banned from running any charity until they have completed training about the proper operation of a charity.EDIT: From the comment section; just a little outside sourcing.
