What was the best show (small venue music performance) you've ever seen? What was the venue and who was playing?

I used to work in a music venue in Liverpool which had 2 rooms, a 1200 capacity room and a 500 capacity room. The 500 cap room used to do gigs many nights of the week, and at the weekend did club nights. A lot of them were indie nights, and this was in the early noughties when indie was still kinda a big deal. One of these club nights was “organised” by a guy who couldn’t organise his was into getting laid at a whorehouse. Things changed at the last minute constantly, no one ever knew what was going on. But he had a really great ear for music and talent spotting so got a lot of “up and coming” bands to play there, and he booked a fair number who went onto do big things. We would normally have a band play on a Friday as a normal ticketed gig, then quickly turn the venue around to re-open doors as a club night at about 10.30PM.One Friday night, we’d been told “no bands this week, just DJs” at the indie disco. Good news for us. Meant only one sound guy had to stay after the gig to look after the equipment, which basicly meant sit around watching pretty students do their weird paralytic mating rituals whilst drinking free beer. It’s a tough life being a sound engineer. So we packed away all the microphones, all the cables, and turned off everything we didn’t need. I volunteered to go home early and let the other guy get a few hours extra paid to get drunk and oggle 18 year olds.Just as I was walking out the door, the “organiser” of the club night told me:“The band are here, can you give them a hand moving their gear in?”Two points hereYou told us there were no bands playingIf you want guys to help lug stuff about you need to hire them, it’s not my job anyway, even if I wasn’t going home. The band were from sheffield, and didn’t care about a sound check, just wanted play as soon as possible, then go home. At least they had a good attitude. So I ended up having to help them carry everything up to the venue, get everything out again, plugging it all in, quickly check everything worked and wait for them to play. All whilst getting a load of “you said you were coming home early. You always do this. I thought I might actually get to see you. Don’t wake me up when you get home. And have a shower before you come to bed so you don’t stink of fags and beer.” texts off the girlfriend. To be fair, she had a point.Whilst I was setting up the stuff for the band to play, I noticed the club was a lot fuller than usual. A good night for that club night would be about 200 people. I was informed we were nearly at capacity. Aparently this band had given away all their music for free on MySpace, and gained a bit of a following. The fools! I thought. How will they get fuel money for the van if they’re giving away their music on the internet? The band went off and had a couple of warm Carlings, and I sat by the monitor desk texting my girlfriend “the band are about to go on, I won’t be back that late, are u sure you don’t want to stay up and have a glass of wine with me when I get back?” in an attempt to get laid that night. (Side note - It didn’t work.)So the band come on stage. The first thing that strikes me is the drummer. Guy is an absolute beast. Hits hard but not too hard, has a great sound. I really dig his style. The guitars are your standard jangly indie affair, but they are tight as a ducks arsehole and the singer has such a set of pipes on him, I actually have to turn his vocals down in the first song. You never turn vocals down. They only ever go up.The most amazing thing was that this band who I, as a young man about town who knew all the “who’s hot” bands on the scene had never even heard of this band, and every kid knew every word to every song. That this happened for a band with no record deal who simply gave their music away for free on MySpace was astonishing to me. It’s not such a surprise now but this was 15 years ago. They played their 45 minute set, with the crowd going completely nuts for every song. Watching an indie band on the way up with passionate fans is an awesome thing. The band closed with a song that was the catchiest most high energy Indie belter of a tune I’d ever heard. The crowd went wild. Then a lot of them left.Once the band finished a lot of the students went home, a few people stayed on to attend the indie disco and vomit warm carling at 3AM in the proud British tradition we call “studying at university”.I was in a much better mood when I helped the band load out. I told them -“We get to see a lot of up coming bands working in this venue, but that was the best set I’ve ever seen played on that stage.”I had two questions:“I want to check you guys out on Myspce and I know my girlfriend will love you guys as well. What was the name of that last song, and remind me the name of your band?”The guitarist replied.“Thanks mate! The song was called “I bet you look good on the dance floor”, and we are “The Arctic Monkeys.””I remeber thinking “great band, if only they had a less stupid name I bet they could go far”.

What are the types of social media and their dates of establishment?

Myspace was first invented in 2003. I set up my myspce account same year. I decorated my page with pictures, music and movies. It was like a mini website.A year later Facebook came out, so I opened that account too. They had decorations, like pot plants you could put on your page. Then games you could play with friends. Eventually it became a great way to update friends and family with a single post. I never put strangers on it, only friends and family. Since a lot of them are overseas, they can see what I am up to or thinking. I miss the games on Facebook, you could play with friends, Farmville was cool.Linkedin started in 2002, I used it for my class mates and some work mates. I tried using it to generate business, but realised most people on social media want everything for free and are not willing to pay for it.Then Youtube started in 2005. I watched lots of cat videos that year, then I had exams. There were no you tube channels, and no music clips at that time on youtube. Next time I watched it was a few years later when my nephews showed me computer videos for playing Minecraft. They used to watch Stampylongnose build every day.Twitter came on line in 2006. I set up one of the first accounts. I hardly have any followers (I think I have 13), but one of them is Dr Phil which is cool.I built my first website in 2010, then a few more by 2013. When Instagram came out in 2010, I used that for advertising one of my businesses in 2013.I used Vevo in 2010, just after it came out, to send videos for my film business, as emails kept crashing, when you would try to send films on email.Snapchat came out in 2011, but I avoided it as I figured it was aimed at children.Tictok was introduced in 2016, once again I figure it is for children, so don’t seem the point in joining.

Comments from Our Customers

I bought CocoDoc FineReader in order to digitize contracts, brochures and other documents. I like the fact that developers monitor their product: they constantly fix bugs, add new useful features and modify old ones. The product is just nice to use.
