The Handmaid’s Tale. I have an absentee ballot, but misplaced the envelope.I was dog tired last night and one whiskey down, and was sorting through 2 weeks’ worth of mail. Including the ballot. Which I hadn’t had time to research.A political org I am a part of sent a cheat sheet for the amendments thankfully. I just had to vote for the most ethnic sounding judges and hoped they didn’t rule on things that would terribly affect the lives of those who look just like them in the future.But I needed the absentee voter envelope in order to to sign the back of it for it all to count. I thought for a second of not voting.I laid on my back and said while rubbing my eyes, “Fucking hell..I don’t want to live in a society where I didn’t vote for things and they went to hell. Fuckfuckfuck.”My printer is broken, so I sent the addendum I have to sign and a copy of my driver’s license to my boyfriend’s email so he could print it out at work.Still somewhat drunk, I felt a surge of pride. Trade a vice for a virtue…that’s how it works, right?I prepared my envelope, buzzed…I will not live in the fucking Handmaid’s Tale universe because Sharon’s whole church group from the Potluck voted and I didn’t.Here we goMy advice? Save your cognitive energy.Cut cable news.2. Join texting updates like “Daily Action” which address policy-only initiatives.Cable news covers this political, bullshit circus for ratings. Do your job and know your policy. That’s all ya gotta do.I don’t know anything about the scandals because I knew early on DJT was a dirtbag. There’s no such thing as a low for him. Not knowing the scandals makes me peaceful and more able to concentrate on policy. I’m better for it.Do all of the above and vote. VOTE FOR CHRISSAKES.I vote mainly out of fear for the future and out of self preservation (how far does the one-drop rule get you if you’re a hysterical woman, again?). Fear is a good motivator it turns out.And if you as a woman, a non-white person, or a Jew are not fearful….then you’d better wake up and smell the goddamn coffee.We gotta circle the wagons, friendos.And then I took another shot of whiskey.
