PDF Editor FAQ
Once people start injecting heroin, is it possible to scale back? Is it possible to go back to taking it otherwise? How do people quit taking this drug? It seems that anyone who tries to quit has to go through ungodly suffering. Is this true?
I started out taking prescribed opiates for an injury. I was prescribed Percocet, Oxy IR, Fentanyl and Dilaudid all at the same time.I started out taking as prescribed then gradually spun out of control. I eventually started injecting but managed to keep getting prescriptions for over 12 to 13 years. As for injecting, once I did it there was no going back. I would only do drugs that were injectable and if I didn't have a point I would find one even if it meant digging through the trash to find one I had tossed.I volunteered to go to rehabs but I always ended back up in a docs office. After several f**kups I got fired from being able to see any pain docs so I had met people in rehab that hooked me up with a way to get heroin and so things continued on like before except heroin is much cheaper.Throughout all these years I would try to regain something similar to my old life. Get off all the crap but it never worked. I went to therapy, AA, NA, tried Suboxone. Everything I could think of. My family, people I associated with, everyone I knew left in some form or another be it death from OD or jail or just getting sick of whatever crap happened because of the lifestyle, everyone I knew went away. The ungodly suffering encompasses every aspect of an addicts life. Not just the physical withdrawals which are so horrible they're indescribable but every part of their existence becomes a living hell. For me things got so bad I was on the verge of death and got so physically sick I had no choice but to quit.My body became so swollen I had to wear stretch clothes, I was pissing blood, throwing up everything I tried to eat. I lived off Gatorade. I couldn't get any drugs so I ended up at a Methadone clinic.I'm still going to the clinic and will continue to go until I reestablish something looking like a 'normal' life. I've been going for 6 months and right now I'm a miserable soul. The depression is so,so bad. Most addicts I know about go thru depression when trying to stop using and is a big reason I myself started using again the several times I tried to quit. After many attempts to get off opiates, the physical withdrawals begin to not be as bad. I guess maybe the body learns. This didn't happen though until I had gone through it like every month for several years. Then the mental withdrawals became as bad as the physical ever was. This may sound strange but honestly for me when I would have the drug in my hand that was all that mattered in the world. I always ran out, always. I knew it was gonna happen but…I would forget how bad things got. Every frickin month, I would forget..as soon as I got the drug in my hand I would forget how horrible things were right before then. If that isn't the most fucked up fact ever…So now I go get my dose every day and am grateful for it. Anyone that can say it is just another addiction hasn't been where I've been. I don't have a happy life, but I'm in a much better place with hope for the future. I didn't think I would ever get to say that again but now I can.I hope this somewhat answered your question and if you read this far thank you.
Is Oxycotin more addictive than Oxycodone?
I believe you are asking if Oxycontin is more addictive than Oxycodone. These two drugs are in effect the same drug. Oxycontin is the extended release form of Oxycodone. It releases a certain amount of Oxycodone over a specific time. Oxy IR is the immediate release form of Oxycodone. Percocet, or Oxycodone/Apap is another form of Oxycodone that contains acetaminophen.Kind of confusing if you aren't familiar with it, but all of these are, in effect, the same drug in different forms.
What is breakthrough pain?
Breakthrough pain is exactly what it sounds like, pain that is able to break through the pain medication that you are taking. For most conditions that require around the clock pain meds, the doctor will prescribe an extended release form of pain medication such as Oxycontin, MScontin, Fentanyl patches, etc. Then they will also prescribe an immediate release form of pain medication for breakthrough pain such as Oxy IR, Opana IR, etc. This ensures that the patient will have continous pain relief regardless of the type. If their original medication keeps the pain in check, they will just forgo taking the immediate release medication until it is needed.
