However, the parent/guardian can’t sign you up and force you to go. So if Dad is telling you he’s signing you up, he can’t.If he forges your signature, you say the word, and off to prison he will go.At 17, if YOU sign up, he has to sign a paper giving permission, as you are too young to enter into a contract. If you refuse to sign up, he can’t force you to or do it for you.Your Dad is making an empty threat, and depending on your naivete to get what he wants.However, it’s clear he wants you gone from the house. Now’s the time to secure employment, finish school, and set up getting a place to live. Whether that’s the military, college, or “doing the adult thing” is up to you.

You may have to ask a parent or guardian to go with you to the issuing bank or thier bank against the legal adults account. You just have to sign it over at the teller. They will tell you what to write but it is usually along the lines of “name of legal guardian" “parent or guardian of minor" and your name and your signature.

My US high school was only three grades, 10–12, as opposed to the typical four so I entered one year older and more informed on how to break the rules without getting caught.From the time I entered I never had my mother sign a thing that went to school: absence notes, report cards and any other note that came home and needed to be signed by a parent or guardian. I always forged her signature so the school had no idea what her real signature was. I’d occasionally make copies of things like report cards so she wouldn’t get suspicious that she as a parent never had to sign anything for school but I threw them out and handed in my forgery. The school only knew my signature so when I skipped I could send in an absence form and no one knew the better. Had my mom actually signed something there’s a good chance they would have thought she forged her own notes.I graduated high school in the early 90’s so telecom and communications in general were much simpler back then. No one had cell phones, texts or emails. The only way to communicate was via land line phone. I had paid my mom to have my own phone line in my room with an answering machine (no voicemail either) and because I filled out all the forms for school our home phone was my room’s number. If I missed school and they called it went to my answering machine which didn’t say “Sean’s not here,” it said “You’ve reached the Quinn’s, please leave a message.” I also had a tight knit group of friends, male and female, and one of my female friends that I’d known since we were five and did nearly everything with had an older sounding voice. When we skipped, she was my mom calling into the school in the morning.Now, I could teach a graduate level course in how to skip individual classes, but that’s behind a paywall.I also graduated with an unweighted 3.95 GPA, was in all honors or AP courses, was varsity in two sports at a giant high school where sports were very popular for both students and the community (think “Friday Night Lights” without the Texas accent), worked 20 hours per week depending on the season, and didn’t get in trouble other than being a smartass so the Principals and teachers liked me and I got away with a lot more than the average student.
