Thanks for the A2A.Let me share my experience on the process and steps that happened on the day of my SSC Skill Test for the post of stenographer Grade C and D.I gave Skill Test in 2016( when I was at learning stage of shorthand) and 2017.In the year 2016, Written exam results came in Aug, 16 and Skill Test was conducted in April, 2017.Now, coming to 2017, Written exam results came in November,17 and then Skill Test was conducted in August. (Earlier it was conducted on April month, then it got cancelled. And finally it conducted in August)Now, Those who are qualified for both Grade C and D , they have to give two skill test on the same day but in two different batches. This will be mentioned in their respective admit cards.On the day of Skill Test, the candidates are given seats and they will be called for Biometric Verification (photo, signature, left thumb impression, etc) . They will be given preference option form for grade c and d combined. ( In few regions).DOCUMENT VERIFICATIONIn some regions like NR, Document Verification will be done after Skill Test. In other regions, it will be done on the day of Skill Test only.They will be given preference option form for Grade C and D combined. Original documents are being checked and self-attested xerox copies are taken and for date of birth, 10th certificate is checked. Then they take the preference option form from us and put the final preference online in front of us and it is electronically sent to main office. They print our details, like name, roll no, category, etc and paste it in a brown colour big file like envelope in which our educational certificate xerox copies, our particulars will be sealed and sent to the respective office.Then, they will call students for Skill Test in another room. The candidates are provided with Shorthand notebook and we have to sign in all the pages and write our roll numbers and then the process of Skill Test starts.Firstly, the candidates are given two trial passage of 1 minute each so that the sound gets familiarized to us and if any difficulty in speech of speaker or quality, or pronunciation, then candidate can tell the speaker. They are very cooperating.Then the actual 10 minutes dictation takes place after the two trail passages of 80 or 100 wpm speed. After the dictation, 10 minutes will be given to us for reading.The actual typing takes place after 10 minutes of reading in mind. We will have to type on computer as soon as the invigilator tells us to enter our roll no. and click the start button. After time is over, automatically, the keys will be disabled.Then we are kept seated. By that time, the staff members gets all of our typed matter printed out and given to us for signature and then taken back. Then, we submit our Shorthand notebook and printed copy of our typed passage and then we leave the hall and another batch enters the hall.Now comes the Preparation part-Practice, practice and practice. Shorthand is all about practice. It’s not about the hours you practice, it is about the concentration level you have while practice. Many practice for 5–6 hours or more with no improvement and some would do well with 2–3 hours of practice.After finishing the pitman instructor and key at the classes where i learnt shorthand, we practiced from kailash chandra magazines and progressive shorthand magazines.Try to do as many volumes of KC Magazine and Progressive as you can.Different magazines and books can be used. Railway Budget, Court Judgment dictations, etc can be used too. Newspaper is a good instrument. Try to make the outline of every new word you come across.NATIONAL SHORTHAND SCHOOL (BOOKS) and Amazon.I would like to add that I personally feel SSC has raised the bar now. In 2016 (and even before that) dictations were more like KC matter.2017 came with a surprise where President Speeches were given for dictation.So, Practice anything and everything.All the best :)
