SMIT, like any other established institution offers each and every student enough opportunities to do impressive stuff.Now what is Impressive Stuff? - right from seeing a fan rotating controlled by the logical unit based in a Micro controller to publishing awesome stuff with reputed international journals leading to patents, money, money and money !Where is the Opportunity? What resources and WTF.. Guidance ?Opportunity is the various national conferences that Samarjit Borah organizes and all the cool stuff Biradar and Barua sir are willing to teach you post class hours. Resources are purchased from the AICTE allowances these professors have. Resources can also be arranged by directly approaching the Director, and convincing him. Have done that before.Who will provide the Guidance.- of-course the lecturers won't be able to tell you everything regarding the stuff you are asking them, but come-on, do I really need to say that engineering principles, programming advice and product knowledge is best sought on web.Placements. There are some companies, which are addicted to the sincerity of a SMIT grad. One of them is Wells Fargo. People might find and say all sort of negative stuff about the quality of work at Wells Fargo and quality of students from SMIT, but let me tell you, that Bank certainly knows, whom it is hiring, who will earn money for them and who is worth rewarding. And, perhaps the stats will support my answer, but we were one of the best performing lots at Wells Fargo. Today, what I work on, I learnt that here or at my previous companies, what I worked at Wells Fargo - I learnt that at Wells Fargo training sessions, but there was one thing which is common to all my work places, was my desire to learn, which I learnt at SMIT. Let me speak for the 70-80% of us, we were never toppers in life academically, and as Vikas Kumar Pandey says, we were all imperfectionists, but we're doing pretty good for what we achieved, and what we're doing.Good - what is Good?, we're happy and we keep learning.Faculty. It's not the best faculty in the world, and SMIT is not the best college in the world. There are times when the teacher doesn't know what you are asking. However, I've often found myself sitting in the cabins of senior teachers, just randomly discussion a theory or a thought.I remember this, the idea of streaming sound via HTTP bypassing any session management as advocated by SIP (of-course audio would be RTP/UDP), took a lengthy 2-3 hour discussion with CTS, and little did I know that I'd later implement a trading platform based on that.Negatives - many, like any other newly established institution. However, I am not here to just sit and criticize. If I can't do a thing remotely, I could at-least appreciate the efforts by some dedicated people.However some negatives, which can be worked on were,-- Regional influence and bias.-- Biasness leading to misuse of domestic examination system.-- Practicality of Practicals - The practicals need to be taken seriously.Today, I am not the CEO of a F-500 company, and I am not earning a Mil USD an year, but whatever I am today, 80% of it is attributed to my alma-mater, may it be any level of education I acquired.
