PDF Editor FAQ
Did the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower solicit donations from a GoFundMe page? If so, is that a problem?
The problem here is what appears to be a choreographed media stunt with the intent of discrediting the whistleblower. Let’s get a few things straight:Despite how the many headlines from right-wing social media outlets read, the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) did NOT issue a complaint against the whistleblower. The complaint in question was issued by a NY lawyer named Anthony Gallo on behalf of an unnamed client. Gallo works for the firm Tully Rinckey. There are several puzzling aspects to this. For example:How did Fox get their hands on the complaint? Do you think the ICIG gave it to them? Not likely. More likely, it was given to Fox by none other than the lawyer, Anthony Gallo. Why?Speaking of Mr. Gallo, on the Tully Rinkey web site he is described as specializing in “national security whistleblower cases” as well as entertainment law. Strange combo, eh? The answer to that little puzzle could be that Gallo is also described in the Avvo lawyer network as a specialist in real estate and entertainment, with no mention whatsoever of national security or whistleblowing. That’s better, because why would someone who is not even licensed to practice in Washington, D.C. (his bio says he’s licensed in NY state only) be a national security specialist? And why would a national security dude practice in NY instead of D.C.? Why? BECAUSE IT’S BULLSHIT, FOLKS. Just like the bogus letter from Trump’s infamous gastroenterologist and so many other little Trump scams. How did all those other right-wing media outlets get the exact same story, to the extent that their stories begin with the exact same language? Is there something wrong with using a GoFundMe account to pay for legal fees? No. By the way, some of the defendants in the Mueller investigation used crowd funding to pay their legal bills. It is, of course, a problem if the funding comes from prohibited sources. But there is no evidence of that. The Fox story describes Gallo’s client as “the holder of a top-secret SCI security clearance (who) has served in government.” In other words, he or she no longer serves in government, which means the individual is not inside the organization. What special knowledge or motivation would someone outside the organization have to file a complaint? Seems strange to me. In fact, I don’t think someone outside the organization in question be characterized as a whistleblower. Heck, I’ll just file a complaint then. This is another low, low attack by the Trump forces. Just add it to the list.
