Probably the most dramatic example of this is Superman in the Injustice storylineThis story takes place in an alternate universe where Superman has just learned that he is expecting his first child with Lois Lane. He meets up with Batman to tell him the good news, but unfortunately he has caught the attention of the Joker. Joker is tired of going after Batman and decides to try and destroy Supes instead as he is an easier target - he starts by capturing Lois.Superman searches for Lois but is confronted by Doomsday - Superman takes the fight into outer space where Doomsday suddenly de-materialises into a dead Lois Lane. It turns out that Joker has used Scarecrows fear toxin to make Superman see Lois as Doomsday and trick him into killing her, as well as their unborn child:And just to top it off, Joker had also rigged Lois’ heartbeat up to a nuclear bomb which was sitting in Metropolis. When Lois dies, Metropolis is destroyed:So basically, Superman loses his wife, his child, almost all his friends and the city he loves and protects all in one moment.Batman subsequently captures Joker. Joker taunts Batman, telling him that he’s succeeded in breaking Clark, Batman tells him he’s wrong, that Clark is the best man he knows and would not be broken by a man like Joker. Then this happens:Superman kills Joker in a rage, then rounds on Batman, blaming him for never killing Joker in the past when he had the chance. This marks the start of Superman’s descent into tyranny.Superman comes to believe that he needs to use his powers to dominate and control humanity for its own good. Many of the heroes side with Superman, but many oppose him, Superman deals with any opposition in, um, extreme ways:To me, this is the biggest example of a character ‘snapping’ as he falls so far - he goes from the ultimate exemplar of all that is good and heroic in the world to a fascist dictator with his boot on the neck of humanity.Just goes to show that no matter how good you are, you’re just one bad day away from being a monster

Silver Age Lois Lane.Seriously of all the characters in comic history she is the worst. There’s a reason why you’ll find her name amidst the 15 Most WTF Moments in Superhero Comics.It’s because that woman is a crazy, self-concieted, anti-feminist racist.Now I’m specifically referring to the Silver Age version of the character. Future iterations were far more normal. And while I understand the Silver Age character was a by-product of the times she was created in, it doesn’t make her any less disturbing.Exhibit A: Lois Turns into a Black Woman to Understand AcceptanceIn Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #106, Lois brags about being able to get a story anywhere, visits Metropolis’ “Little Africa” to prove it, finds no one wants to talk to her, feels really bad for being singled out because of her skin color and then has Superman turn her into a black woman so she can fit in. And then, she demands Superman tell her if he would still marry her if she looked that way forever.Exhibit B: Lois Competes with Lana Lang to See Who Can Hypnotize a Baby Into Loving ThemIn Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #57 Lois Lane and Lana Lang try to brainwash Superman (who’s been turned into a baby) into loving them. This includes forcing the child to learn how to propose to them, kiss them, and allow each of them to take turns spanking him.Exhibit C: Lois Gains Weight, Worries Superman Won’t Love HerIn Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #12 Lois gets turned into “The Fattest Girl in Metropolis” when a growth ray makes her moderately overweight — an embarrassing condition that she spends the rest of the issue trying to hide from Superman for fear he won’t love her anymore. Oh yeah, and she gets her clothes from a place called the “Fat Girl’s Shoppe.”[Side note: How hilarious/insulting is it that Superman, a man capable of lifting entire planets, is struggling to hold Lois.]Exhibit D: Lois Literally Sells Her Soul to the Devil to Marry Superman (Someday)In Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #41 Lois says aloud that she would sell her soul to the Devil to marry Superman and PRESTO the Devil appears ready to collect. The kicker? It’s actually Superman dressed up as the Devil to teach her a lesson.Exhibit E: Lois Marries the DevilIn Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #103 believing Superman doesn’t love her anymore, Lois decides to get married to the Devil. Luckily for no one the whole thing is cancelled when the Devil turns out to be an alien.Exhibit F: Lois Makes Out with Superman’s CorpseIn Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane #43, Lois is struck by lightning and transported to a parallel universe in which Superman is killed by Lex Luthor. She decides the best way to mourn Superman is by humping his dead body.Exhibit G: Lois Makes Out with the Entire Justice LeagueIn Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #29, aliens capture Superman and Lois conveniently comes up with the idea that the only way to save him is by her making out with every member of the Justice League. You see her lipstick is laced with Red Kryptonite and the supeheroes smear the lipsticks from their lips onto a handkerchief that Superman then rubs all over his body and… it doesn’t really matter. The point, has Batman ever looked this excited? Also, Lois is a tramp.And crazy.You might notice a theme in all this. Specifically, the comic series Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane is ridiculous. But it’s no coincidence that one of the worst solo series ever stars this horrible woman.I don’t care how many people Joker skins alive or animals Batman beats up, they might as well be amateurs compared to the disturbing behavior of Silver Age Lois Lane.
