Where can I get sample EOIs for tenders?

If you are looking for local tenders, I recommend to check local government or company websites, and see where they publish them. Often they publish their Tender requests in local newspapers as advertisement. Besides, they publishes all tenders on their own website and other local publication boards. You can use these as input to write your own EOI letter or Tender request.Besides, you can find here professional Expression of Interest (EOI) andInvitation To Tender. What happens next? A more important question for those who read it is maybe: How to submit an Expression Of Interest for a recent published Tender?Step 2; Obtain a copy of the tender or EOI request.Tender documents can be downloaded at several websites.Step 3; Decide whether or not you are suitable for the projectRead the tender document very carefully and familiarize yourself with the conditions of tendering, the advertised selection criteria, the specifications, and the conditions of the contract, especially the clauses dealing with delivery and price variations, before deciding whether you are suitable or not.Step 4; Understanding the contract and conditions of tenderIf you are unsure about proposed contract, either discuss it with the contact officer nominated in the tender advertisement or have the tender reviewed by your legal representative.Step 5; Completing your tender or EOI formsEnsure you have filled out all the necessary fields from the document, answered each of the criteria and supplied the required number of copies of your submission. You are then ready to lodge your tender documents.Company records are generally open to the public. However, tenders received are treated in confidence during the evaluation and reporting stages (see Steps 9 to 10), and subsequently retained on Tender File. They may at some time be the subject of an application to inspect.Tenderer’s who require any information provided with a tender to be kept permanently confidential should advise this in writing and give reasons, e.g. to protect a commercial interest or intellectual property.Step 6; Tender PeriodCompany will offer the same tender documents to all those who respond to an invitation to tender. The tender period is usually three weeks. During the tender period, you may wish to seek further information or clarification from the contact officer. If advice, verbal or in writing, is given to a respondent clarifying the meaning of the tender documentation, the same information will be issued to all other respondents. The company will maintain a written record of all advice given. The company may invite prospective tenderer’s to a pretender meeting to provide further information and to respond to questions raised. The minutes of this meeting will be distributed to those who attend the meeting, or who have registered their interest with Company.Step 7; Lodging your tender documentsTenders must be placed in a specific location, and no later than the closing time on the closing date. There are however some reasons that late tenders may be accepted – as described in the Local Government Act and Regulation. Mostly late submissions are not accepted.Step 8; Opening of tendersCompany’s tender opening panel will open all tenders received by the due date and time, in Company’s Reception area located at Company Chambers. The panel will list the tenders received in alphabetical order, and the list will be displayed in the Reception area for public viewing.Step 9; Evaluation of TendersEvery submission will be reviewed by a tender evaluation panel. While other criteria may be used which are more specific to each tender, the following are examples of commonly used criteria in an assessment:operational capabilityqualitypricetechnical and methodological assessmentfinancial capacity to undertake tenderduration or time requirementsoccupational health and safety assessmentenvironmental and sustainability considerationsThe tender evaluation panel will examine all tenders for compliance with the conditions of tendering, including completion of all the relevant tender forms. Each tender submission is read in detail and its strengths and weaknesses are assessed and recorded. The submissions are then scored against the advertised criteria and ranked.(optional Post-tender interviews)The tender evaluation panel may invite you to a post-tender interview to seek further details of your capability to carry out the works. Following the interview, the panel may review the scores and ranking of tenderer’s.Step 10; Recommendation to CompansThe panel will prepare a report to the Finance Department or Committee with a recommendation either to accept no tenders, with reasons given or to enter into a contract with one tenderer or a number of tenderer’s. The Committee’s resolution will then go as a recommendation to full Company. If your tender is successful you will be advised in writing and contract documentation may be required to be completed.Source: an example Expression Of Interest Tender Cover Letter

Why should I learn how to write a resume?

Because you care about yourself. In our lives, we spend most of our time at work and being happy in life often times means being happy at work. Put it another way, if you are unhappy at work, it would negatively influence your personal life. Having a job just to pay the bills is not the ultimate goal of a career. But the question is, how can you have a job that not only pays the bills but also makes you happy?A good resume is the first step towards a job that will suit your interest and career direction. Remember that the resume is who you are for the employer, it is your identify and if you fail to communicate that, finding a suitable role becomes hard if not impossible. It would be like trying on a pair of trousers two sizes smaller than your actual size, they just don't fit.At this point you may think, I can pay someone to get me a professional resume and save the time and pain of learning how to write a resume. This is a valid option but I see it as a temporary fix. I give you some reasons why you should at least give it a go and learn to become good enough to write a decent resume. The resume is a personal document that describes who you are as a professional. The words you use and the writing style tell about your personality. Strong and evocative words may clash with your humble personality and vice versa. I feel that I have to own my resume. In a way, writing a resume is like writing to a loved one. Only you can write a message about your feelings and evoke emotions. I might be dramatic here but as I said at the start of this answer, a job that satisfies you financially is not necessarily a good job and you may not be happy. The best way to be happy at work is to speak openly about yourself using the words that fit your style and personality. For instance, in my resume, I never use terms that I won't be confident using at the job interview (see next point in the list). The scope of a resume is to get you to the job interview. Then you will be tested for the statements in your resume and any embellishments and outstanding performance will be under scrutiny. If you cannot prove it, you will be done. They will find out that the person in the resume is not you. Nobody knows you better than yourself.Once you learn the basic skills of resume writing, you have them for life. Any time you decide to have a career move, you can just apply such skills and prepare a resume that ticks all the boxes without help from anybody. There is also personal satisfaction in doing that and a sense of ownership of the job application. As I said, resume writing is a skill that can be learned and applied over and over again. It is useful in a professional life not only when looking for a job but also on a job if asked to prepare a resume for a tender submission. The skill is universal and in principle applicable to the preparation of letters and proposals for securing contracts and new clients. If you are called to collaborate in a proposal submission and have such skill, you can leverage it and write a document that brings $business$ to the company. The consequences of a new contract or client brought in by you can be a salary increase, a promotion and of course a new line in your resumeI firmly believe that you should be in control of your career and learn how to survive in the work jungle. I trust that this answer gives you some inspiration to create your own resume. I also believe that you should be your own master and teach yourself how to progress in your career. A significant step is learning how to prepare a job application that gives you the power to negotiate the role that best suits you.If I did catch your attention with this answer, my video course may be for you. Is it necessary to have planning and contracts departments to manage an infrastructure/construction project?

I’ll tell you what planning and contracts engineers do at site, then you answer this question for me.Here you go..Let’s go with planning first:Planning is one of the core areas of project/construction management. Planning in construction projects can be done if you have a basic idea on quantity surveying.Planning in Construction Project mainly involves:Working out with the quantities required to cover the total scope of project for preparing the Project completion schedule using Project Management tools like MS Project/Primavera and get them approved by the Project Manager for preparing the Budget Work plan for the year under consideration.Preparation of Monthly & daily work plans and progress reports.Analyzing the Direct & Indirect cost overruns, shortfalls, and prepare Profitability report.Preparation of monthly “Daily Progress Reports Vs Interim Payment Certified reports”, Monthly Work In Progress statements..Preparing the bill collection plan from the client.Coordinating with the site execution team for preparing monthly procurement schedules for major materials, building materials, special materials and tools as per the work plan.Monthly Reconciliation of major materials.Monitoring of procurement and follow-ups to get the required materials in time.Identifying the BOQ deviated items and giving the inputs to contracts department for preparing the claims.Creation of Purchase requisitions and purchase orders for sub contractors / PRW contractors.Micro Planning: Item wise planning for all the activities involved in the project.Preparation of BUDGET for the next financial year.etc.Planning engineers do a lot more. I just mentioned the key areas they work on.CONTRACTS:This is purely based on my experience as a Contracts engineer in a construction project.1. Execute proper contracts appreciation and ensure adherence to contractual conditions:We are normally provided with a hard copy of Contract Document which consists of thousands of pages.Whenever we need important clauses like variations/payments/advances etc, we can’t search the entire document. So, we prepare a Contracts Appreciation Document (we simply call it CAD).We enlist all the important clauses and streamline them in different schedules. This helps us in finding important clauses whenever required.2. Identify risks and develop risk mitigation plans:Detailed analysis of Risk is done at different levels of Project Cycle likea. Pre Qualification Stage,b. Tendering/Bidding Stage,c. Project Planning and Procurement Stage,d. Execution and Monitoring Stage,e. Project Closure and Claims stage.f. Project Operation and maintenance stage.etc.3. Develop and maintain client relationship:Even if you have a legitimate claim, client will not accept your claim. You can’t do anything without client’s support. So, we maintain good relationship with the Client.4. Ensure timely & accurate work measurement, billing, certification and collection:Need to keep a track on interim payment schedule. Check the deductions(Taxes, Interests on advance taken) and advances (Material advance, Mobilization Advance etc), Bank Guarantee expiry details etc.Escalation calculations for steel, cement, labor, fuel and other commodities. Principal and interest deductions in the RA Bills.5. Ensure identification, documentation and submission of claims & variations. This is the most interesting part. Refer all the related documents and IS codes to find a loophole in the contract document and claim extra time and cost.6. Ensure documentation and preparation for Dispute Review Boards & arbitration:Ok… Dispute!? Here we come :D7. Draft contractual letters to get them approved by Project Manager and send them to Client, Subcontractors, Government bodies etc. This is the most boring part. I had to sit for 3 weeks to draft a letter (14 pages) for Extension of Time. (Biggest career achievement so far- Awarded with 6 months project Extension based on a strong claim)8. Finalize sub contractor engagement:Creating subcontractor work orders, finalizing their rates and their scope of work etc and ensure validation of subcontractor bills as per contract conditions using SAP.9. Ensuring of various contemporious records are correctly maintained by various departments as required in terms of the contract provisions.10. Recording hindrances and rescheduling physical and financial milestones as per the delay analysis using MSP.etc.There are many other roles but we concentrate more on these. These are the things planning and contracts engineers do in Construction/Infrastructure projects. Now it is your turn to answer your question :D
