How strict are your parents?

OK, so first, context:I’m a 15 year old female living in Romania, freshman in high school. I would say my parents are reasonably strict, and sometimes they let me decide on my own boundaries, and I can say I am a pretty responsible teen(as responsible as a teen can be :)))ClothingI can wear whatever I want as long as it’s not very revealing, but I’ve been kind of a tomboy all my life so I usually wear something like this while going outside:or some bottom up shirts, like thisMy mom would like for me to wear more feminine clothing but she understands that I don’t like dresses, skirts or other clothes that are deemed “feminine” that much.MakeupMy parents never put restrictions on makeup, my mother doesn’t use makeup often and usually just some lipstick and face pouder. Since I’ve never been intersted in using makeup we haven’t had a talk about it but I plan on asking her if I could try some light make up next year, when I turn 16.*Hair*Here my mom prefers short hair, and she has short hair herself. I currently let my hair grow longer and has reached a little over my shoulders, but I decided to cut it short again, to this kind of hairstyle.( I have curly hair)My mom says she likes it, and would get me to the hair salon next week :)ElectronicsI have my personal phone, a desktop PC, a tablet got from school for online classes and a laptop. They don’t know the password for any of these and they don’t check on them except when they are suspecting me of doing something wrong(rarely happens)Also, I am allowed on any social media but I mostly use reddit and instagram(on my phone) and quora only on my desktop computer and laptop. And youtube, I think it counts as a social media right? And the last thing that comes in this category is gaming, which I am allowed to as long as I do my schoolwork and chores, but I mostly don’t play more than 2 hours every day, or every other day. (except when it’s holiday and I’m with my friends playing minecraft all day long)SchoolSo, I am in the best class in my school, the mathematics-informatics intensive informatics(so lots of math and computer science classes). It was my choice to get in this profile( there are 4 more) because I like programming and I am currently studyng C++ at school and Python on my own and math is alright, not my favorite but I don’t hate it .I have to get an overral grade of more or equal to 9.5 (the max is 10) and I must get something from an 8 to a 10 grade in my 4 most important classes (Physics, Romanian, Mathematics and Informatics). Apart from school I am working on getting my FCE in english and because I want to go to study abroad. Afterwards, I will start studying another langauge, depending on the country I want to go to study( looking at you France).FriendsMy parents want me to choose my friends wisely and they ask me a few things when I make new friends but they have never not let me be friends with someone.I can go outside with my friends whenever I had time(prior covid) and after I finished my homework.I can have both female and male friends but not gonna lie when it comes to different races my dad is kind o a racist( moms not, she even helped the romani population) but I would not be allowed to be friends with one before they met his/her/their parents. There’s a big problem in eastern Europe with this particular minority.ReligionMy family is christian orthodox. But me, not so sure. I talked with mom about this once and told her that I think there is a God there but that I don’t like how they portrayed it in the Bible, and also how the whole church institution seems just like a big scam and I don’t like how I have to stay on a cold floor.(my grandma backed me up with this one, she isn’t a fun of the church either, and neither old fashioned in any way, except maybe with being childfree, she doesn’t agree with that)My mom understood and didn’t said anything bad about this, but we are still going to church(rarely).LGBTQ+My family doesn’t support the LGBTQ+ but they do not express it in any way, I know this just because of a referendum on gay marriage rights that happened a few years ago and they voted “NO” for marriage rights). The referendum didn’t made any changes as not enough people voted.Anyway, this is not a good thing because I am a lesbian and the fact that my mother started teasing me about boys made it worse and more annoying.DrugsI am not allowed to do drugs or smoke(they don’t smoke either, the single one who smokes in my family, and lives with us too, is my grandpa as my grandma quit almost 2 years ago, am very proud of her). Also, they told me I can start drinking coffe if I want but I tasted it and it’s not for me.CursingI am not allowed to curse(my parents don’t curse either). All that I use is “heck”, and pretty frequently too, with my parents. When I am with my friends I curse a little more but not much anyway. And when I am with 10 years old on CSGO, I curse like a sailor.T.V.I don’t have a TV in my room, actually I had but now it’s a screen for my PC :)). So I usually watch Netflix. My parents don’t care what I watch and I don’t have any restrictions on my profile. Anyway, I usually watch cartoons(sometimes with my little sister), movies and shows(they often turn out to be PG 16 but eh, I try to avoid the ones that contain s*x scenes).MusicI usually listen on spotify and youtube. My parents don’t want me to listen to “manele”( I don’t like them anyway, but to anyone who likes them, don’t be ashamed of it, it’s alright!) and music with lots of cursing like trap or rap.Anyway, my dad and I share our music taste and he likes the artists that I listen too(right now is mostly imagine dragons, Nico Collins, The Motans and Reinaeiry)AllowanceWe are getting allowances from the state(85 lei per month, aprox 17 euros ) but I get to keep the money from my scholarship(which are a few hundred lei)ChoresI have to empty the dishwater, clean my room, vaccum the living room and kitchen sometimes, empty the washing machine and thats pretty much it.DatingMy parents didn’t put an age to dating but I didn’t had any interst in it either. My mom is open to talking about my crushes but again, I don’t like boys so I don’t tell her anything about them. But recently I told my mom that I think age 16 might be a good time to start dating and she said that it’s alright, but no s*x.I didn’t plan on having s*x till 18/19 anyway.Bedtime23:00 on schooldays, midnight on weekendsHobbiesMy parents are supportive of my hobbies, which are creative writing, programming, rock climbing and photography.Except, maybe, they wouldn’t be that happy to find out I am learning to do parkour(not on top of buildings!)~Anna~

What do people from other countries think about the current political status of America?

All of us foreign aliens don't think the same way. Some of us don't think at all. Not everybody in the alien world has all that much information about anything in America. Also, “political status” means different things to different people. As usual, I offer my Canadian no snideness guarantee. I am not going to compare the USA in an invidious way to Canada. These are two countries that are foreign to each other and have vastly different situations. I don't have to walk in an American's shoes. I walk in heavy snowboots in a place halfway to the North Pole. (It only just feels like its around the corner.)Since this question is about the political status of America, I presume it is asking about federal level events.Does political status mean a snapshot of things as they are just now, or does it also include process and prognostications? The last time the USA felt like something you could do a snapshot (Or, more modernly, screen capture.) of, was maybe the 1950's. That was sort of a present as eternal situation, the social conservative consensus forever, except that new technology was approaching for the kitchens of the Caucasian housewife. It wasn't really true. However the 1950's taught even us Canadians a lesson, even if we didn't really want to learn it. Things that change life, society, politics, etc., can “perk” for a few years before you notice that your current times are all over. For example, work on creating the birth control pill went on throughout the 1950's. The FDA didn't approve it for contraceptive use until 1960. Betty Friedan didn't simply spring into existence in 1963, when she published the The Feminine Mystique. She was active in progressive and feminist causes long before that, but this was kind of a bubble. So, I don't think the snapshot approach will help us foreign aliens understand political America as it is in 2019. It is kind of trite to say that the times, they are a changin', but they always are, and right now a bit more.As a died in the wool alien, I could put it in my utterly foreign way, that is, “Yo, American guys, where are you going with this?”. I could frame my foreigner's , watch political America from the sidelines, quest as several, a little perplexed, questions. What's The Deal With The GOP?Americans, do you think the period of GOP nose-holding is starting to squeak out? Ann Coulter is now dissin on The Donald. But, I thought she was the female he. And, the President has been sniping away at Fox, his intellectual go to and his voice. Maybe Robert Mueller's heel-yapping is making elements in the Republican Party a little nervous. What if people even closer to the President get taken out?The GOP came into existence in 1854. It has been around for a long time, but nothing lasts forever. What if 2020 approaches and the party snaps? It was decohering even before the Trump era. I was going to say that Donald Trump has been pushing the decohering faster, but I have come to think that he is a symptom of the process. It isn't just the case in America. A conservative-oriented party tends to be a cobbling together of rather disparate groups. You see it in the Conservative Party of Canada and the British Conservative Party. By comparison, explicitly liberal parties seem to have more of an explicit ideology. (I don't include the Democratic Party of the USA as one. It is more that Bernie Sanders and some northeastern and ethnic people would like it to be one.)A cobbled-together party can be very resilient when the membership feels confident that the current leader will keep them in power. The Republican cobblestones are loosening. Could it be that we will see a split party by 2020? You might, for example, see one conservative party forming as a consistent competitor in the Blue states. Their candidates could be successful in states where they are charismatic, there has been too much of “throw money at problems” mentality, and some minorities are pushing a little too hard. Maybe, if they select a good presidential candidate and running mate, they could win the Presidency. It appears that you could not have something similar for the red states though. As I have said in several previous Answers, there is a certain sector of the American public that clearly does not believe in the United States Constitution. Rather, they seem to want a white supremacist, misogynistic, sort of fascist (I am hesitant to stick European-type labels on the USA. The country really is exceptional in certain ways. Maybe there needs to be a made-in-America term, such as the Alt-Incelian, Proud Boys Movement.) state.I wonder if the Coulter-Fox situation is the start of a bad time for Donald Trump's base. What are they supposed to think when other conservative heroes are dumping on him? What if they see a significant number of Republican congresspeople jumping his sinking ship? Where does their anger go? Do they move on to another hero, who is inside the Republican Party, or start looking without? Do they support the Alt-Incelians? I believe that this is going to be a key issue for the USA between now and 2020. Then, how will they react if there is a Democratic President and there is a Democratic House and Senate? But Then, The Democrats Have Their Own IssuesBernie Sanders is too old. I am sorry. I think he is well-intentioned. But, it is the truth. Face it, liberal America. He is seventy-seven! Were he to win the Presidency in 2020, he would be pushing eighty. And, although I come from a supposedly socialistic place, some of his proposals are a little daft. Free college tuition? More than double the federal minimum wage? Forcing American companies to move all their manufacturing back to the USA? A universal childcare and prekindergarten program? These are kind thoughts, but even the Liberal Party of Canada wouldn't dare. So, the Democratic Party is being forced through a painful process as 2020 approaches. They may need to find a more business as usual approach, at least with regard to winning the Presidency. (However, I think fighting for Congressional seats, seat by seat, might work.) I can't even predict how this will work out.Congress Does Some UnravellingBoth some Republicans and some Democrats are not pleased with USMCA. Here in Canada we sort of thought that Congressional approval was a slam dunk, but, it looks like we were a little uncomprehending. If the USMCA tanks, America (Despite the instinctive American dislike of foreign affairs.) is going to have a serious problem. Canada will not be in a position to negotiate most of this year. The next Canadian federal election is on October 21, 2019. USMCA is a sure Canadian political loser. Our politicians will prefer to talk about anything else.More generally, what is Congress going to do if they see a President who is going progressively more rogue, and situations that he has no ability to resolve?Maybe there is a potential upside for the American political scene. Republican and Democratic Congress members may be forced to co-operate and negotiate. How many more federal government shutdowns can the USA afford? How much more government debt? How many more sterile confrontations about the Wall? How many more failed attempts to beat down other nations? Is the USA going to see a return to Congress-driven decision making, and some suppression of the President?A Pencian Era Might Not Be Good For AmericaThis is a spectre that is visibly hanging over American politics. Say, for the sake of argument, the Mueller investigation finally does grab Donald Trump by the heels and pulls him out the White House kicking and screaming. Or, one of his sexual adventures comes to the surface, like, incontrovertible evidence of him in a Moscow hotel room, with a load of hookers, all of them in the employ of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. Then the Mike Pence era starts. What if he cannot or doesn't feel like controlling his social conservative religious enthusiasm? He makes his first priority to go after LGBT's, single Moms, abortion clinics, members of non-Christian religions, etc. And, he is preoccupied with that. We aren't going to bother with budget deficits and healing foreign trade.Shudder, the conservatives of America! If Mike Pence gets impeached or is otherwise driven out of office, the third in succession is Nancy Pelosi! This would be a nightmare scenario for a whole lot of Americans. I am not sure how America would take it.I do not like conspiracy theories. However, were I to indulge, the deep state might prefer the next two years of American politics with Donald Trump as a figurehead ,and a cabal of not too hysterical Congress members calling the shots that the deep state doesn't want to.The Science and Technology Community Blow The Whole Works UpPill type situations can happen again. What if commercial fusion power finally arrives, and changes the energy world? NASA has a laboratory that is sort of a first step, proof of concept for Warp Drive. What if it works? Lose China and let's go looking for the Klingons. What if there is a weather disaster, that scientists can show is unquestionably the result of climate change? For that matter, what happens if a true cure for AIDS is found, and the USA is returned to the sexual 1970's? (So, Studio 54, the Next Generation. Sorry Mike Pence.) Or, the medical community finally finds a cure for dementia, so you live to the very end, with all your marbles. And, you do not feel like going in a senior's home and you still have your opinions.Or, autonomously driven flying taxis pop into existence and the streets and roads of America fill up with self-driven vehicles, while taxi and truck drivers flash out of being. Or, some science lab inadvertently progresses maybe a bit too far, and invents itself a sentient computer or a robot. The USA, and its politics, are vulnerable to these types of shocks. Just look at what the pill did to the 1950's. Looking at it from the other side of the event horizon, it appears that the American political scene is primarily about some complex things that can happen until the 2020 election. However, some scientific and technical things could rewrite the script.Martin Levine
