What is the average ground shipping rate in the US?

You're right that cost depends on a lot of factors. But mostly, it depends on weight and distance.$5-7 is a decent estimate for a very light package (up to 1 lb) sent via USPS at the Post Office. Here are current rates (as of January 14, 2014) for a 1-lb package:USPS Standard Post$5.60 - $6.85FedEx Ground - Standard List Rates (includes 6.5% fuel surcharge)$6.65 - $8.21UPS Ground - Standard List Rates (includes 7.0% fuel surcharge)$6.68 - $8.25For FedEx and UPS, you have to add $2.85 or $2.90 to the above rates if the package is being delivered to a residence. The listed rates don't include any other fees that the carriers may charge such as delivery area surcharges, declared value fees, or signature fees.If you're sending something this light, it usually makes more sense to send it Priority Mail, as it's about the same price as Standard Post ($5.50 - $6.95). If it will fit in a Small Flat Rate Box, the cost is $5.80.The pricing above is based on standard list pricing, which should be a good approximation of an "average" rate. Frequent shippers or eCommerce sellers typically page a little less (or maybe a lot less if you're Amazon), while retail FedEx and UPS shippers pay more. The USPS prices are based on what you'd pay at the Post Office; you can pay less online (except for Standard Post). To get cheaper pricing on Standard Post you have to get an account through USPS, eBay, stamps.com, Endicia, or similar, and use Parcel Select. If you're sending a heavier package, the cost can go up substantially, and the distance matters more. For example, a 50-lb package sent with FedEx could range from $16.56 - $50.65 depending on the distance (not including residential surcharges). The dimensions and overall size of the package can also affect the cost for Fedex and UPS. The total volume will be factored in if it's more than 3.0 cubic feet, and the package is not dense. There are also oversize fees at certain dimensional thresholds. It's possible for a large box to cost a couple hundred dollars to ship cross-country.Sources:https://www.usps.com/business/parcel-select.htmhttps://www.usps.com/ship/priority-mail.htmhttp://rates.ups.com/http://www.ups.com/bridge/fuelsurcharge.htmlhttp://www.fedex.com/ratetools/RateToolsMain.do?link=2http://images.fedex.com/us/services/pdf/Fees_Shipping_Information.pdfhttp://www.fedex.com/us/services/fuelsurcharge.html

Why and how have Harmony Shippers made a bad name for themselves and the Harry/Hermione pairing?

I think we need to distinguish between the people who simply genuinely like the idea of Harry and Hermione together, and the “Harmonians”, who bash and hate on Ginny and Ron, who ignore inconvenient canon and declare the epilogue not to be canon, who create theories such as “Ginny used a love potion” or “Ron would abuse Hermione later on” or “when JKR said they are platonic in front of children, it means their love would become romantic” (very prevalent before HBP came out) “the Hippogriff theory” (bonkers, because Hermione didn’t even like flying on it and Sirius was present - I could just as validly claim that this is foreshadowing for a Harry/Hermione/Sirius threesome, LOL). And of course, the sheer moralizing from them, where H/Hr are the most morally worthy characters, that their kind of love that transcends all kinds of base passion, frivolity, humour and is SERIOUS and LOYAL, is the best kind of love. For more on this one, check out this link, put out just after HBP when the shipping wars reached new intensity: What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love, and Understanding?According to these fine people, Ginny is a crazy, obsessed, delusional fangirl, or some conspirator willing to ensnare Harry with Love Potions, or she is a slut who sleeps with the entire male population of Hogwarts, or she is to be attacked for her horrible experiences with Tom Riddle, or a litany of other made-up sins. And this is what people made as supposedly legitimate arguments in online forums. In fanfiction… well, let’s not even go there. Here’s an example of a thread on an extreme H/Hr forum to see what I mean (don’t click if you think you can’t handle it, it is very bad): 1001 Ways of Killing Ginny Weasley. As to why the H/Hr is the most militant ship in the fandom, it's because the books built up all this interaction between the trio. Regardless of whether it's platonic or not, more presence between the two characters is always "positive" to your ship. It means more opportunity to look for the tiniest cracks in the canon. Ships that have no threat whatsoever against the canonical "order" are by definition more peaceful, because since there's almost or no interaction, there's nothing to be militant about. The natural evolution of this vocalness is proclaiming that it's better than the canon ships, that the fanon should trump the canon and become canon itself. So you have to get Ginny out of the way. And how is that done? By bashing. Which is why the vast majority of the Ginny bashing (and Ron, too) is done by Harmonians. Ron similarly got a lot of flack from the Harmonians back then, too (albeit, less compared to Ginny after 2005, and more compared to Ginny after 2015, in part I think because of the Wonderland interview). The key point is this: Surely if Harry and Hermione were such a great fit, the H/Hr fans would not need to resort to blatant character bashing. Surely if they were a couple meant to be, they would be a great stand alone couple, instead of consistently deflecting to the question of Ron's character. For example, it is extremely telling that a lot of H/Hr shippers sound exactly like the Locket!Horcrux that targeted Ron in Deathly Hallows, vis-à-vis the Trio’s relationships, his place in the Weasley family and more particularly the question of Ron’s character:“Least loved, always, by the mother who craved a daughter… Least loved, now, by the girl who prefers your friend… Second best, always, eternally overshadowed…”“We were better without you, happier without you, glad of your absence… we laughed at your stupidity, your cowardice, your presumption…”“Who could look at you, who would ever look at you, beside Harry Potter? What have you ever done, compared with the Chosen One? What are you, compared with the Boy Who Lived?”“Who wouldn’t prefer him, what woman would take you, you are nothing, nothing, nothing to him…”Seriously, do these arguments about Ron not sound familiar? The Internet is full of posts by H/Hr shippers claiming that Ron is a burden, Ron brings them down all the time, Ron is stupid, Ron is a coward, Ron has never done anything useful compared to Harry and Hermione, Ron is the lowest of the low, etc. etc. And this kind of thinking goes back at least fifteen years.Someone conducted a mini-study in 2012, showing that at least 60% of Harry/Hermione fanfiction has Ron-bashing in it: this study exclusively included stories that did not even mention that they bashed on Ron. Isn’t it amazing that you are more likely to find a bashing fic than not, even if you don’t look explicitly for it? And I’m pretty sure the problem is worse now, for two reasons that I can think of now: 1) they believe, since 2014 that Ron-bashing is now fully endorsed by J.K. Rowling and 2) less people ship Harmony now, so they feel the need to resort to more extreme tactics to keep their core audience with them.I think that very fact that they bash Ginny and Ron so much tells a lot more about the extreme nature of these shippers (of course, not all Harry/Hermione shippers, but sadly a large proportion of them) than about the characters themselves. They believe doing this somehow helps their case; it doesn’t.The reason why they are so militant is simply because they’re not content with their status as a fanon ship. We all know that Harry/Hermione is just as canon as Ginny/Luna, Ginny/Neville, Neville/Hermione, Ron/Luna and others. Those other shippers just want to ship away in peace, they can say “oh, it should have happened :(” and canon shippers would be, and are, perfectly fine with that. Not Harry/Hermione. Oh sure, you can say that the other ships have their own portion of crazy, but really, who the hell are we kidding (even in case for Draco/Harry and Draco/Hermione)? Do we really think that they have as high of a percentage of rabid shippers?Harry/Hermione (at least, the people who define that ship and make the culture of that ship) views itself as being a canon ship that was spurned at the last minute back in July 2005. The fanon status, for them, is only temporary. In fact, you’ve even got people who claim, somehow, that not only is it right now, just as canon as Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione, but that there’s this whole romantic narrative that’s just as if not more canon than the actual canon. With the implication, of course, that Harmonians are deeper, more educated and better readers. And this is not to talk about the whole morality aspect of it all, covered in the essay linked above. And when canon shippers call them out on this behaviour and frankly … ‘delusion’ they go and complain about how much they’re oppressed by the big bad OBHWF shippers. And the reason canon shippers oppress Harmonians is somehow, because canon shippers talk more about Harry/Hermione compared to some random small ship, it means we deep down think that Harry/Hermione should have happened. That we’re just denying it.No, no, no. It's because of the arrogance, the militancy, the bashing and ignorance. When fans of other media act like the Harmonians do, they are sometimes called 'the Harmonians of so-and-so fandom'. Why? Because they set a precedent 15 years ago when Half-Blood Prince was released. But let's keep saying that Ginny is just a stupid fangirl and an irredeemable bitch, that Ron is a betrayer, and a moron, and is one step away from committing religious honour killings, that he's the “Silver Sidekick alongside the Golden Duo”, that Harry and Hermione never needed Ron, that Ginny should have died in the Chamber, that canon shippers are like Holocaust deniers and religious extremists. Let’s go and cheer on a rigging of a 20th anniversary Mugglenet poll on ships to push Harry/Hermione from 12th/20 to 1st, and then complain when someone tries to revert the percentages to something like what it was previously. I’m sure none of this should be considered delusional. I’m sure that these sentiments will, slowly, but surely, win over the uneducated masses. I’m sure that, in time, the great pairing of Harry/Hermione will serve as a vanguard for everything true, moral, and progressive. So yes, sadly, it is indeed the extremists who indeed run the show among the H/Hr ship. If you want more analysis on the Harmonian ‘phenomenon’, I’d suggest reading answers by Vivian Onim and Ayesha A. Issy Dodds is especially great when it comes to the Quora-centred Harmonians.

Who should Ash Ketchum marry?

He. Won't. Marry. At. All.A couple of reasons on why:For God's sake, Pokemon is a kids' show. There's a reason why the company cannot explicitly show romance between the characters. This is also to say why Ash has continued to be the mainstream protagonist for a couple of decades since they just cannot afford to make him grow, marry him off and replace his character with his family line like some other popular and long-running anime — the likes of Dragon Ball or Naruto. The second reason is he's dense as f**k. How do we know? A good number of instances.Just look at his face — even a kid like Bonnie has the gist of what's just happened or even someone like Clemont who's a big nerd. Heck, even Pikachu glows a blush but there you have the dumb kid — dense as ever.Honestly, I'm all up for fanfictions and if I had to choose from among his travel companions, it'd either be Misty or Serena. Misty because she's the first pokégirl he's travelled with plus she's the only one besides Serena who we totally know of having declared feelings for him.Misty's goodbye after the Johto League is one of the most heartbreaking moments from the anime, and everyone who's grown up watching Pokemon would attest to it.Yeah, the sun is setting as Misty says “Take care, Ash” while “You're more than just a friend” plays. Fuck you Pokemon.Serena, because she's one of the most likeable characters of pokémon — sweet, caring, adorable and add a bunch of other cute words because why not?So you see that's where the trouble began. She's pretty, inspiring and a great cook — everything a man can ask. Plus the fact that she's the only pokégirl who's kissed Ash does all but help her cause for the number one contender to being his partner and I don't mean travel companion here.So there you have it — a totally bipartisan answer catering to both the two largest groups of shippers of the show. If he's ever marrying, it's going to be either of the two. It has to.
