PDF Editor FAQ
What are some real examples of digital transformation?
First, recognize that “Digital Transformation” (DT) can be defined many ways. It can be as simple as replacing legacy tools and manual processes with newer and standardized applications. It could be as massive as end to end automation of core business processes or functions. They key goals these definitions share are that process and technology are intertwined in the solutions, and are meant to streamline, scale, or enhance a process, operation or entire business.Good examples can be as simple as elimination of non-digital or non-process integrated data, such as an application process taking printed PDF or other forms and people-centric, redundant data maintenance to a fully online solution that streamlines the process, eliminates errors and redundancies and makes the process more efficient. Fill out new patient forms at a doctor’s office and you will see the need for DT. Or use Alexa to order a pizza from Domino’s, another example of transforming how a business process is done.A more complex scenario would be an end to end strategy of linking processes and people with unified tools/applications, and applying newer or more advanced technologies to automate or get to a “next level” of their processes and technology. These could be simple algorithms, integration to various external api’s to bootstrap key technologies and processes, and various implementations of AI woven in to gain efficiencies and accuracy. Nissan, Porsche, Netflix all have case studies and stories to tell on this.
As a nurse, who was the most ungrateful patient you ever treated?
Not an RN but a PA working in the ED.First, a little background:Everyone working in a hospital these days is subject to patient satisfaction scores, provided by surveys given to patients after their discharge. I personally don’t think they should carry as much weight as they do (not everyone returns the surveys and it is human nature to be more likely to return them if there is a complaint, so the majority of the scores reported are for complaints, making it pretty unlikely that we’re going to get a lot of “5”s (out of 5)). But we are all held accountable for the average score, for our unit, for our provider group (RNs, PAs, DRs) and personally, if we are actually named. As such, in the ED, we would be supplied these scores monthly in the form of a PDF. The report was for the entire hospital, organized by department. It was a big PDF. Each score included a numeric patient identifier, the length of their stay, a list of the departments/units seeing the patient during their stay, the score they gave and any comments they made to accompany or explain the score.Normally I would skip right through and read only the ED scores. This particular time, however, I was prompted to go a little further when I saw a patient had given a “2” and the accompanying comment simply said, “No Splenda.” That was odd. First because the ED does have Splenda, and I was pretty sure the rest of the hospital did, too. Second, because, well, come on.I read the rest of the line. Length of stay: 20 days (!). Departments: ED, Cath Lab, Surgery, Cardiac ICU, Cardiac Stepdown, MedTele, Cardiac Rehab, PT/OT.It’s not hard to figure this one out, really. This is a patient who came into the ED with a major heart attack, likely in full code with CPR commenced, was taken first to the Cardiac Cath lab, where the damage was found to be too extensive, prompting emergency surgery to repair their heart, spent any number of days in Intensive Care, improved enough to be placed in Stepdown, and then went to a regular medical floor with constant cardiac telemetry where they began their cardiac rehab and physical and occupational recovery, before finally being healthy enough to be discharged 20 days later. As it turned out, I had been a part of their care team in the ED, so I reviewed their hospital course. It ran pretty much as I had surmised. After the ED, Cath Lab and surgery, they spent 5 days in the CICU, extubated on day 3, 6 days on Stepdown (with a code called in the middle), and 8 days on MedTele. On day 17 of their stay, the patient complained to their nurse that Splenda had not accompanied their morning tea, like it had every other day, then refused the packet the nurse offered, stating “the tea’s cold now.” (Always read nursing notes to get the real skinny on a patient’s stay. They were documenting to this level of detail because the patient had already managed to complain about everything from the scratchy bedsheets and lack of down-filled pillows to the floor finish, which made their sneakers squeak.)Let’s be clear: this patient absolutely would have died. Without the intervention of any one of these units, this person would have died. And yet, in 3 short weeks, we had them recovered enough to return to their home. They gave us a “2.” Because they missed their Splenda one morning. (Though by the sound of it, they might have added any number of complaints. I can honestly say, though, I’d be just as flabbergasted if they’d written “floors made my shoes squeak,” or “no down pillows” in their comment.
What is the biggest scam that every Indian must be aware of?
Donation scam:I received a call from a guy at 11:30 AM requesting an URGENT donation for a 2-year-old girl child suffering severe burns, who needs my help for an operation at 2PM.Sure.I was then transferred to his helper, Neha.Neha (scammer) - 15 minute blabber about her NGO and what it does and how a small donation could help save a life…Me - *patiently listening and asking some minor questions just to be sure*Then I ask her the website of her NGO and I am asked to open :NGO DarpanSeems legit!I am then asked to locate their NGO from the Search NGOs option on this website (credibility reasons maybe) and search for their NGO name - India Rehab Centre.Hmm, go on.A lot of official looking details are thrown at me like NGO ID, Registration details, Members, Key issues, FCRA details, Details of achievements, Source of funds and contact details. At the bottom, I am asked to open their website India Rehab Centre (IRC).At IRC’s website, I am asked to go to Cases and there I am made to ensure of the authenticity of the case. There is a detailed PDF with photos and medical reports, apparently. Then I am asked to kindly donate by going to the D/C card (debit/credit) option and am asked to fill out my details. The volunteer details are, Neha/Manvi and the message I’m told to write consists of some UPID code (to make it look more official). While filling out the form, she asks me what I do (for a living), and how much I can contribute to the cause.I tell her I’m a student and despite not having much, I could make a small contribution. On hearing my amount, she says if I could, I should really try to stretch my pocket and pay ₹ 1004, the cost of one injection. This was the first red flag, as this was a conscious attempt to make the amount seem real.No problem. At this point, I am a little wary and I then ask her where this girl is located right now. She pretends to not be able to hear me for about the first five times, but upon seeing that I’m not about to let it go, she says - Noida.I then enquire which hospital she is located in, and I sense another attempt to change the topic.I press her more and she gives in that she is admitted to BTRC, Noida. I cut the call and dial the hospital.I receive a message from her as soon as I cut the call:I call the hospital and enquire if there is any patient by the name Manvi as I would like to help.Bam, the guy on the phone says that that patient has already been treated and discharged.I call her back, and I say that I have contacted the hospital and that Manvi has been treated and discharged already. She cuts the call.On more digging, I found numerous other complaints on India Rehab Centre:India Rehab Centre — fraud ngo fooling peopleHow to check if an NGO is fake (not foolproof):Just google “complaints againt ___ NGO” and snoop around a bit.
