What are the things we can do while we are in quarantine?

I lost my job on March 7, 2020, the day before my 20th birthday. For a month I was depressed, eating every 30mins with little to no care of what I was consuming. Chocolate, cake, cookies, chips - I ate it all.I was already morbidly obese before losing my job, tried all the diets (or so I'd thought) and nothing ever worked. I honestly thought it was a medical miracle, there must be something causing my large weight.120kg at my biggest, 6ft tall. When the quarantine hit in late March, most people’s lives changed dramatically. I continued sleeping on my couch in front of my laptop with a constant stream of Netflix. For whatever reason, I decided enough was enough. On April 14th 2020, I started to diet and exercise every day. With the diet, I cut out sugar completely and consumed less than 20g of carbs per day. It was a little difficult to change my habits at first, but now it's second nature. I can't understand how everything needs to have so much sugar in it.Now, I HATE exercise. It's just never appealed to me. My health problems and connective tissue disorder make even eating a sandwich painful sometimes (because my jaw will randomly dislocate). That's why I didn't set the goal of ‘exercising.’ My one fitness goal was to make myself sweat every day. Whether that's sex, a YouTube workout video, Pilates on Amazon Prime, or even walking fast though the woods. If it made me sweat, I believed I was successful for the day.and I was.I started at 110kg, I'm now 83kg.Thoughts?My life has changed forever.I don't get out of breath going up the stairs anymore. I can sprint after a bus if I want to.My immune system seems better than ever and the same goes for my joints. The last time I lost some weight, I got pneumonia soon after and the steroids ensured I gained it all back. This time is different. I feel almost like I'm, glowing? From inside and out.My tastebuds are completely different, pizza tastes like dirt nowadays (like biting into a grease-filled sponge) and I crave healthy food.I went from being a UK size 22 to a size 10.I've got a new job as a personal health assistant, helping other people change their life too.Not only that, my mom has lost around 10kg and my dad 18kg. They are both morbidly obese, and I honestly thought they would never change. My dad even told me at one point (when I told him that he'll never walk me down the aisle if he continues eating like he did) “if I die, I die. I've enjoyed life and that's all there is to it.”Now he enjoys calling me to complain that all of his shorts are too big and won't stay up. If I hadn't have lost weight first, they would have never done it.I'm so proud of myself and them, for realising it’s never too late to change.Top tips?Cut out carbs and sugar. The human body does not require carbs to survive. There are essential acids, essential fats, essential proteins but NO essential carbohydrates. All carbs have a high glycemic index meaning that your body has to increase its insulin levels to process it. If you pair that with the advice of eating three meals a day with snacks, your body is CONSTANTLY processing carbs and therefore battering your pancreas and causing it to stop working properly (cough, type two diabetes.) it's the equivalent of running a new car, all day every day. Do you think it would last as long as the same car bought at the same time that did 20 miles a day? Of course not.Look at how many calories are in X item. The majority of things that are marketed as ‘healthy’ really aren't.Drink lots of tea. I drank tons of green tea and black tea; it helps with satiety and feeling more alive when your body's craving sugar. Don't like tea? Keep trying them, you will find one you like. Not all green tea is the same either; if it tastes bitter, you're probably adding boiling water (don't) or squeezing the bag. Use 70C water and no bag squeezing, please. If you want to ask me ANYTHING at all or need advice, comment or send me a personal message. Lots of love! 💖(messages now open for everyone, I didn't realise my settings meant that only a few people could email me before now)

How can I prevent myself from getting affected by the coronavirus which is spreading quickly from China?

I think we are relatively safe for now. Spoke to my brother at length yesterday, he stays in UK and he told me that shit has already hit the fan in Europe. They ran out of pasta and rice in the supermarkets. Sanitizers are 15 pounds per 100 ml bottle. This is the plan I have:I am already self isolated. But will probably message my grocer a list of daily stuff and ask him to drop it along with milk in the morning. Will stock up 10 kg rice, pulses, couple of liters of oil and about 5 kg of chicken, cut up and frozen. Long-shelf life veggies like potatoes, yam. Clean up freezer and freeze some regular veggies, objective avoid human contact as much as possible.Stocked up on sanitizers (which I heard is out of stock in Chennai) and Dettol. Will probably lock down my other rooms and mop the only room I use every day with some disinfectant.Told my mother not to visit any temples or marriages, she is in vulnerable aging population. Temples are not going anywhere.Following with my daughter’s school every day about what precautions they are taking. This is a yuppie school, so parents returning from abroad are very very high and hence risk too. So told my girl the precautions to take. This weekend I will plan and shop so that I do not have to go out for a month if needed.Probably bit dramatic. But I heard that Corona has a special package for smoking diabetics. So I will be better safe than sorry.

I have type 1 diabetes and I’m moving to England. How is it covered by NHS? Is insulin free? How do I get it?

You will need to register with a General Practitioner - thats a local GP - and are either paying NI contributions or if here for a short term or immigrating, you will have to pay for a NHS health surcharge. The NHS health surcharg is normally calculated, and issued, when applying for a visa and its a maximum of £400 I believe.Once that is done you should tell the GP all the medicines you’re on and illnesses. Diabetes is taken very seriously over here and you will be referred on to the local Diabetes centre, which in my area is the Manchester Diabetes Centre at the MRI.Now heres the good news. Insulin is free in the UK for diabetes patients, though in England you will need a medical exemption certificateFree prescriptions (England)I believe they also now provide the blood glucose testing machines and strips for free too. Before you come here why not drop Diabetes UK a line and they can give you the best and most up to date information, and provide a friendly good support service.Diabetes UK - Know diabetes. Fight diabetes. Why anyone should pay for insulin is beyond me; do you live in a land of barbarians and selfish people?
