PDF Editor FAQ

What is the saddest thing a young child has told you about their parent(s)?

My brother’s ex had a six-year-old daughter and two-year-old son. They stayed at my house for a couple weeks and always left the girl behind when they went out to do fun things “as a family.” One day they left really early without telling anyone where they were going and took all their stuff except the little girl and their dog. The little girl was crying and scared after they had been gone for around six hours without calling and weren’t answering their phones. She asked me “Why does my mom hate me?” and I tried to convince her that her mom didn’t hate her but she didn’t believe me. It was so sad. They did come back eventually, after I left a voicemail letting them know I had contacted DHS and DHS had contacted the police.EDIT: For those who are curious, this happened ten years ago. The mom was a teen mother and has done a lot of growing up since then. The girl is doing much better now and she and her mom seem to be bonding now.

If we lost a principal beneficiary in an F4 case, can remaining beneficiaries proceed with the case if the I-130 is approved?

As I recall:In US immigration the death of a principal ends the case.If there are compelling humanitarian circumstances, the applicant may contact directly the DHS office that approved the petition to request that it be reinstated for humanitarian reasons. Under certain circumstances, a consular officer may also recommend that DHS reinstate the petition. If DHS reinstates the petition, the consular officer will contact the applicant(s) soon thereafter.

What do you think about the current situation in Kerala regarding the corona virus?

Thanks Gowri S Nair for the questionWhat do you think about the current situation in Kerala regarding the corona virus?Kerala was handling Corona Virus with extra-ordinary preparedness in the first wave and successfully contained any major spread. In the first wave, the state health department- DHS was sure enough that any spread of Virus into the state could happen thro’ Malayalee community returning from China. Due to this, DHS and its Health Intelligence unit prepared the full list of Malayalee students and professionals in China (which anyway isn’t that big number) and those who returned from China were tracked at the beginning and quarantined. Due to the extraordinary efforts, only 3 cases were reported, all 3 being index patients having direct Wuhan connections. And they were cured and discharged. During this incubation period, a State of Health Emergency was declared in the state and massive mobilization of medical staff and other forces were done to avoid any spread.Arun Mohan (അരുൺ മോഹൻ)'s answer to Kerala has declared Coronavirus a "state disaster" after three confirmed cases. What happens now? After their discharge and with no new cases being reported, the emergency was withdrawn, DHS maintained strict protocols mostly similar to how it maintained during Nipah Crisis.By Feb mid, the diseases started spreading to other parts of the world, particularly to Middle East which started creating a huge alarm in Kerala as the linkages with Middle East is extraordinary. The Government of India also stepped in strongly, but there was no major efforts to have an universal screening in airports and other ports of entry. Rather the Ministry of Health- Govt of India made screening voluntary to those who declare they have visited Iran, Italy, South Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong etc in last 14 days. The state DHS kept it usual monitoring, but alas, the leak happened on Feb 28th 2020, when a Malayalee couple and their son who were infected with Covid19,came from Italy to Kochi, but purposefully didn’t declare their port of origin. This family boarded the Qatar Airways flight (QR 126 – Venice-Doha), which had landed in Doha at 11.20 p.m. on February 28th. They spent about one-and-a-half hours in transit at Doha airport, before boarding flight QR 514 Doha-Kochi, to reach Nedumbassery international airport at Kochi on February 29 at 8.20 a.m.Upon arrival, they declared themselves as passengers from Doha and didn’t declare their flight history that they were from Italy. Its not sure whether Bureau of Immigration in Kochi has checked their family travel history or not (some sources says there is no exit stamp in many European Immigration systems anymore), but the fact is that, this family didn’t declare anywhere in Kochi airport that they hailed from Italy. As the health screening wasn’t mandatory then, they could exit the airport, travelled to their home town - Ranni in Pathanamthitta via Airport taxi. Enroute they visited several places. From Feb 29th to Mar 6th, they visited many of their relatives home, visited local church, attended weddings etc (some sources say, they contacted nearly 300 families in this week time). In meantime, one of their relatives next door showed signs of fever and cold and visited local hospital. The doctor had a suspicion of Covid in their case and had a primary blood check which showed signs of the virus. Upon investigation, they revealed, their cousins from Italy visited last day. This was reported to DHS and the Health Inspectorate was alerted. When the Health Inspectors came to the home of the index family, they refused to cooperate and were not agreeing even to move to Isolation ward of Government hospital, resulting in forcible quarantine. And after the tests, they were confirmed with the virus infection. This lead to health department to start tracking of the spread of infection. It soon revealed as the family travelled and visited many homes, the cases of secondary and tertiary cases could be much larger. On March 7th, an emergency meeting was held and the state started a massive health combing operations to trace all potential patients. This includes even passengers who travelled to Kochi in the same flight as well as others who were in the church, restaurant, mall etc when the patients were there.News24 Malayalam explaining how the current Index patients family spread the diseases, opening the second waveApprox 1495 people were now in Health Surveillance list, majority being home quarantined. The parents of index patients were also confirmed with this virus and as they are too old, things have complicated. So they were immediately moved to Kottayam Medical College, one of the biggest Medical hospitals in the region. The 3 Index patients and their 2 relatives were quarantined in Pathanamthitta Hospital.Apart from these case, another family also came from Italy last day who declared their flight history at the airport. Their 3-old baby was confirmed with Covid at the time of initial screening and quarantined in Kochi Medical College while their parents were also moved to Isolation ward for checking. Now, its confirmed, they too have Covid. As of now 14 people are tested positive for Covid 19. 1495 people are quarantined across the state, out of which 1236 are home quarantined and rest being in hospital’s isolation wards.Due to this scenario, an emergency cabinet was called today and the state has re-activated provisions of the Disaster Management Act 2005 to declare a Health Emergency back in the state. With this fresh round of mobilization of healthcare staff started and action plan initiated.Unlike last time, where the cases were limited from China, this time, things look more complicated. Kerala has huge linkages with Italy with numerous rich Christian NRKs living in Italy apart from those who have gone to Rome for holy trips. In addition, many European NRKs often travel via Rome/Milan etc, which also complicates the spread. Italy didn’t have a strong lockdown unlike China, so the virus is spreading at an alarming rate, thus many families were affected.Apart from Italy, this virus is fastly spreading in the Middle East, particularly UAE, Saudi, Qatar etc which has extreme linkages with Kerala. Already Kuwait and Qatar started lock-downs and Saudi has initiated a ban on pilgrimage and tourist visas. At the moment, the state is on full alert and unlike last time, the public has started taking extra precaution due to the potential nature of spread of infection. The state has clearly informed there is no need to panic but asked people to be in full alert.Pinarayi Vijayan- Kerala CM briefing Media on the action plan taken by the stateBased on decision of today’s cabinet, the following decisions were takenClosure of all educational institutions from Anganawadis to Professional Colleges across the state.Examinations upto Class 7 and Class 11 has been kept on halt indefinitely, while examinations for 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th for any syllabus (including CBSE/ICSE/IB/IGCSE) will be allowed. This is to encourage Work-At-Home concept and companies are asked to encourage as much as possibleAs part of enhanced awareness, all telecom operators are now directed to play an awareness message prior to connecting their calls. BSNL has started that from today onwardsThere is indeed slight panicking among people, especially in Pathanamittha District where the index patients roamed around freely last week. Most of them are remaining indoors and many hotels, supermarkets etc being shut in Ranni town. Many buses to Ranni town has been curtailed due to lack of passengers. In general, Pathanamitta has became more or less standstillThe Collector of Pathanamitta - Mr. Nooh IAS has taken full charge of operations of combating Covid locally. There is a very strict health surveillance happening in the district and Special branch officials being posted to ensure those who been quarantined at homes remains indoors. As one suspected person tried to escape quarantine last day in Pathanamthitta, the collector has publically announced that criminal cases would be registered against him and those who try so. Electronic Monitoring anklets or similar GPS instruments would be attached to such people to ensure they remain indoors for 28 days.In Cochin Airport, flights from Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore etc would be parked remotely and an extra screening would happen at the remote bay before taking passengers to the terminalMost of the temples are now advising devotees to pray at home and restrain from visiting temples if they have even mild cold or feverGuruvayur Devaswom has implemented Thermal screening at the entrance as well as advisory made at the gate for devotees to move out if they have mild cold or feverThe temple has scaled down all celebrations as part of annual festival to be held. Kerala IT Parks Limited has directed all IT Companies across the state to regularly update the health profile of their employees and encourage work-at-home conceptsAt Technology Innovation Zone - TIZ Kochi, Robots have been deployed to campaign for safety awarness about Covid and importance of sanitizing hands. There is shortage of masks and sanitizers reported in many Pharmacies, some are selling at exorbitant rates. Government has ordered State Medical Supplies Corporation to maintain a reserve stock of same for a month and Drugs Control Authority has appointed squads to check profiteering as well as sale of fake sanitizers and masks in the state. There is absolutely no need to worry now, but the state has gone into full alert to ensure that the disease doesn’t spread.Edit 1:District Administration of Pathanamthitta and DHS finally able to map the route and stops made by the first Index family in one week time.
