Trump.There was a time when I would have said conservatism, Christianity, parsimony, militarism, or corporatism, but none of that trumps allegiance to Trump at this point.They didn’t adopt a platform in 2020. Here’s a bit of news that seems pertinent, but I can’t tell whether the guns were brandished or used:The Washington, D.C., police chief says at least six weapons have been recovered, dozens of people have been arrested and 14 police officers have been hurt so far in Wednesday’s pro-Trump riot. …By 9:30 p.m., 52 people had been arrested. Four were taken into custody on suspicion of carrying pistols without licenses, one for alleged possession of prohibited weapon and 47 on suspicion of curfew and unlawful entry violations, Contee said.Of those detained, 26 were arrested on Capitol grounds.Authorities also recovered two pipe bombs — one each at the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee headquarters.A cooler containing a long gun and Molotov cocktails were also seized at the Capitol. Anti-Trump Republican here.Trump thinks that his supporters are stupid.The latest bit of evidence of this was a letter I recently received in the mail, purportedly from Melania Trump, asking for donations on behalf of her husband, Donald.In this letter was a pre-written “check” in the amount of $45 from Melania to the Republican National Committee.The letter described a “wonderful opportunity” to send in my own $45 check along with this “matching” check from Melania, and effectively double my donation to the RNC. Alternatively, it explained, I could give a $90 check, tripling the amount!How gullible they must think we are that we’d believe that this is really a matching check from Melania? One would already have to be pretty gullible to think the letter was really written by Melania at all — it was the usual screed about fighting evil left-wing fake news agenda, yada yada.At first, I was going to just ignore her plea, but I finally decided to mail the return envelope back with just the $45 check from Melania, so the RNC will at least have her donation. Wanting to be helpful, I happened to have a one-peso coin, so I tossed that in the return envelope also.Just doing my part to help Trump fulfill his promise to have Mexico pay for the wall.
