“To kese hai ap sb log……”Let's analyse the exam.Positive points about GATE Examination.Limited & well defined syllabus as compared to other examinations.Almost standard resources to be followed i.e. NPTEL/Coching notes (limited coachings)/Standard books/Test series.More than enough time is given to solve questions in GATE examination. 65 questions, 3 hours…Sufficient with average speed.Now if you already know above things then what…“to suru karte hai bina kisi bk…… ke.”Let's divide the preparation strategy in different time segments-March to August -Take the printout of syllabus and read it carefully. You should know what to be studied & from where to be studied (later you can decide the resources but at least have a look on syllabus initially).Follow standard resources. Most preferably during initial time of preparation i.e. March to August, try to spend at least 2–3 hours with NPTEL (choose some good lectures and stick to the syllabus). Prepare your own notes while watching lectures (short and crisp).Along with lectures download some short notes from internet (some decent aspirants have done a good work on it). Revise formulas on timely basis. Solve some quality questions daily. Don't go for quantity, go for quality. Some 5 quality questions can open your mind like anything and can give more clarity.Read from standard books and notes (either prepared by you or downloaded). Stick to one type of notes and add points to that. It will make you familiar with those notes and hence revision will be easy. (Many notes .. More confusion)August to October-From August leave NPTEL and just stick to notes reading and question solving from any reliable source. So many groups and apps are there to get questions. Solve questions subject wise and if something is lacking then go through NPTEL for that topic or Google it. Somewhere in the internet you will find your answer. Just try to search by yourself first, you will get to know so many things additionally rather than directly asking the answer/reason to someone.If you are following above routine and giving full time to studies (at least 5 hours), by the end of October your syllabus should be finished.October to December -Now you have two options either solve questions from any group or old test series pdfs or buy any test series and stick to it. Please remember! You are not giving test series to score only, you are giving it to know the mistakes you may make in examination hall, so don't avoid it in any case. Analyse your mistakes and try to rectify it in subsequent tests. (If you have a good command over the timing to solve the question then test series is not that important, you can solve questions from some other sources as I mentioned above.From October read the short notes and formulas daily and try to solve questions and read the doubtful stuffs. You can add something new till December.January-From January, don't read anything new or don't deviate yourself. Sleep on time, get up on time, do yoga, like you are preparing for a war. Have healthy food and try be away from tensions. I'll not recommend you to give test series in this month although you can solve some questions.Before the last week of examinations give 3-4 mock tests and just make yourself comfortable with the environment. Don't analyse the marks or ranks, just make yourself familiar with calculator and the interface.Last 2- 3 Days-Last 2- 3 days just read short notes (per subject 10 to 12 pages). You can complete all subjects in a day. Just do it for 2 -3 days.Just try to be positive at the last day. Don't try to get the exam analysis of first shift if you are giving examination in the second shift.Conclusion-The good thing about GATE examination is the clarity of syllabus with limited and standard resources to be followed. You just need to give sufficient time (5 quality hours daily).GATE checks the consistency of any aspirant regarding studies for one year. Don't run fast at the start of the race. Just move slowly and don't get tired/bored by running fast initially. Run slowly. During last 2–3 moths, give more time and concentration, Run fast now.Logic is simple-Logic is simple.. don't get bored, just enjoy the process, be self motivated and keep your interest alive. If you are finding it boring, just take a break and start again. Don't change your life initially (don't isolate yourself), last 2–3 months just concentrate.Pesa barbd b…..I have seen some people studying for 12 hours initially and sitting idle during last few months before examination because they ran fast initially so get tired/bored soon. We were thinking of buying a car and my father and mother would often visit different showrooms and agencies to test drive different models and all that stuff.My Mom once jockingly said -“Nayi Car Lenge Naa…Mai bhi apna naam likhwaungi sheeshe pe”[If we would buy a new car…I will paste a sticker of my name on it ]Something like this which is very common in India.And now my reaction was -“Log apne chotte bacho ka naam likhwaate hai…aap iss umar mai likhwaoge” ( People get names of their kids pasted on the windshields not their mommies and you are too old for it )And she didn’t say anything and started laughing. Now my father was also sitting there and he said nothing. We waited for another six months and decided to buy it near October or November.So in the first week of October,all four of us went to Maruti Suzuki showroom and got us a brand new ‘WagonR’ and that day we first went to a Gurudwara (because my Mum is a practicing Sikh) and then we went to a really historic Mahadeva Temple and that was all for the day.Now after a week my father took the car for some modifications and extra accesories like footmat,seat covers and all that stuff.When he came back, windshield of our Car had a sticker and it read -‘Jai’ and we all were so much surprised. My Mum’s name before marriage was ‘Jai Kaur’. We all were amazed and especially my Mom.I still remember her face, and what he said -“This Car belongs to this lady,we are lucky to have a woman like this in our lives” (He spoke in Punjabi)This was a really special gesture on his part and though she wished for it jokingly but he made her wish true. It was our first Car.
