Two people can have completely different experiences living there, just like anyplace else. But I usually hung out where everyone else did, I didn't go to (many) exclusive places. I rode the dolmus, I ate at public belediye places, having cheese toast and tea. The best things in life are free (or very cheap. My favorite street food was a meatless wrap).For me the biggest factor was that I had a lot of free time, and didn't work for unfair wages. So again, my experience differed from the local citizen. I often hung out with my Turkish friends at their place of work.I lived in Istanbul for a year, which can be more expensive than most places.. and far more stressful. I don't think I would live in that city again, but that's just me. I wouldn't live in San Francisco either.To be honest I know a lot of Turkish people who believe, perhaps falsely, that life outside of Turkey might be vastly better. I don't think it is. It can be, and it depends a lot on what you want and what you do. I've lived in lots of places, but overall I would vote Turkey as my favorite.There are pros and cons.
