It depends.The school/district will have a social media policy for photos. But they will be different from district to district.For example, the school I work at has an Opt-In system where if a students photo is to be used the student/guardian must have signed the release at the beginning of the year. No release form - no photo use for the school.My son’s school has an Opt-Out system, where the policy forms sent home clearly state that if you sign the form you are asking to opt out of having your child’s photo used for social media things. No form on file means it’s ok to use the pictures of children on posts about what the school is doing.

You can opt out of Open Access fees, and after your manuscript is published you can post a pre-print on your website, so it won’t be completely behinds a paywall. But don’t go for any journals where there are fees to publish that you can’t opt out of.Pick a journal. Click on “Submit a Manuscript” or something similar on the journal page.Register as an author—which means filling in a form. You can get an ORCID and that should make it easier for the next one, since journals can register you faster by linking to your ORCID account. For affiliation, you can write “Independent Researcher” and that is perfectly fine.Follow the instructions for submitting your manuscript. You might have to suggest peer reviewers. It’s pretty easy to find some—again just type in some part of your paper or keywords into Google Scholar and find authors who are active in the same area as your research. You may have to find three or four potential reviewers… but all the journal needs is their name, affiliation, contact information, and reason that they are appropriate. You don’t need to contact them or anything like that.Submit the manuscript. If it’s rejected by the editor—then repeat the process of finding a journal and submit it somewhere else.If it’s sent out for peer review, chances are that you’ll get back comments from the reviewers, if not an outright rejection. If you get comments, then revise the paper and resubmit according to the journal’s instructions. Repeat until the reviewers are happy with the paper. The editor will send you proofs.Read through the proofs and make corrections.After your article has been published, tweet about it and write up a press release or two and send them off to some blogs and larger media sites and reporters.Repeat.I hope this helps!
