There is a dwarven kingdom which appears virtually empty, except it is spines of mountain ranges which large communities and cities occupy. Gnomes, halflings, humans all have their own “homeland” where they place the genesis of their kind. The easternmost coast and westernmost coasts are both geographically isolated with odd influences so that is where you find things like tieflings, goliaths, half-orcs, kenkus (kenkii?), firbolgs and so on.That being in place, I move into the location of a story. The location tends to dictate history. So one city is a border city, so it has significant fortifications built up favoring one side. Which indicates at least some level of warfare in the past. Given the races that are predominantly found in that area will determine what kind of interactions would have happened.I fill in the holes with divine activities, natural disasters, migration patterns of more wanderlusty races.Smaller down is the communities.
