PDF Editor FAQ

How can a person express themselves better?

I have personally felt frustrated because I didn’t know how to express my feelings. Often I felt as though there was nothing I could say or do to make other people understand the depth of how I felt.1. Create a sculpture of your feelingsUse clay, recycled materials, paper mache etc. If your feelings are something that you want to let go of, put your sculpture somewhere where you will see it everyday. When you feel ready to let go of those feelings, rip it up, stomp on it, burn it, throw it in the trash…what ever you like!2. Open up a dictionary and find a list of new words that help you how to express your feelingsHere are some of my favourite words that I like to use to express myself. You might like to use them to.Pensive – Deep in thought with a hint of sadnessApathetic – Void of feeling; not susceptible of deep emotion; passionless; indifferentJubilant – Feeling or expressing great joy and triumphNostalgic – A sentimental longing for the pastPessimistic – A tendency to have the most unhopeful viewOptimistic – A tendency to have to most hopeful viewLethargic – A lack of energy, feeling unwilling and unable to do anything3. Draw your feelingsUse shapes, colours and images to reflect how you feel. Our minds have different ways of perceiving things so colours and shapes hold different meanings for us too.Red might represent love or passion whereas for others it may reflect evil or hate. It is the same with shapes. Pointy shapes may represent evil or something dangerous while circular objects may feel more positive, safe or friendly.4. Paint your feelingsThrow paint on a canvas, use different brush strokes to create different shapes and textures, be free and let the painting speak your feelings. You may want to focus on just one feeling or otherwise a whole bunch of feelings at the same time.5. Dance your feelingsUse your body movement, rhythm and music to express how you feel.6. Sing your feelingsWrite a song, sing a song, improvise different sounds and melodies that reflect your current state.7. Yell your feelings, scream your feelingsThere is something liberating about just letting it all out in one gasp of air. Especially when you have a big build up of feelings that you have kept hidden for a long time.8. Start a blog or websiteThis will provide you with an emotional and creative outlet. You will be able to discuss subjects and issues that you may not feel comfortable or be able to discuss elsewhere. It’s a great tool if you don’t know how to express yourself.9. ExerciseIf you are feeling frustrated, let the frustration out as you run as fast as you can on the treadmill. If you are feeling angry, feel the anger as you push up those heavy weights. If you feel excited and positive, let that energy out as you do a body combat class or jump that skipping rope.Express your feelings by releasing your energy and use your body to let out your feelings. Exercise is a great way to release deep or intense emotions.10. Make a brainstorm of your feelingsOften we find it difficult to express our emotions because we don’t quite understand exactly what we are feeling and why.Brainstorming your feelings will help to surface and create a fuller picture of your different feelings. This will help you to feel more able to express them or talk about them with others.11. Talk to others about your feelingsTalk about your feelings with your friends and other people. Just talking about how you feel will help you to feel like you are letting your feelings out.Talking about your feelings also helps to bring clarity and put things into perspective helping you to better understand and express yourself.12. Join a group of some sortJoin a sports team, an art class, a singing group, a band or some other kind of social or community group.Sometimes we just need to be around other people. How do you handle long-term meth withdrawal irritability and anger problems (it’s been 4.5 months since the last use)?

Some days I wish I knew… My first year was nearly unbearable. So depressed and anxious and endlessly irritable. I’m gonna suggest things that work to fix anhedonia and they may help. Most are kinda obvious though…Move your body. Yoga, walking, hiking, Tai Chi, whatever. Just breathe in some fresh air and move some muscles. It’s not only distracting, it’s an endorphin rush. Closest thing you’ll get to a dopamine burst for a while.Talk. Go online and chat or call a friend. Most wisely talk to someone who supports your frame of mind. Calling old friends is just a way to get high again. Talk to someone who can HELP.Medicate, legally. Why not see a psychiatrist and get on psych meds? There’s all sorts of interesting stuff in various combinations worth trying. As long as you take whatever as prescribed, you’re golden. Self medicating with illegal drugs should be a LAST resort when legal ones are available.Learn more. You need to distract your mind. Especially if you white knuckle it. You need to dive into your new frame of mind and just attach yourself to it. The knowledge will give you the power to perceive your path to a new place.Express yourself through the arts. Draw, paint, dance, write, play guitar, sing, play drums, flute or piano. Turn your feelings into diary entries to keep them hidden away, and into song lyrics when you’re ready to let the world in.Volunteer. You know what a great distraction is? Being a part of a struggle, a movement or a cause. Go donate some time at your local animal shelter or go visit the elderly or play with a foster kid. There’s so much going on around you for you to focus on, you just gotta get outta your own head.Meditate. Take some time for yourself. Quiet time. Calm time. Eyes closed but not asleep. Steady breathing. Alpha waves. It’s like self-hypnosis.Drink water. Lots and lots of water. Your body will love you.Lucid dream. Direct your dream-state by knowing you’re dreaming. The key is to keep a dream diary next to your bed and to write down something - whatever you remember - as soon as you wake every day. Pretty soon, you can control the direction of your dreams. It’s pretty awesome.Reconnect with nature. I mean this one is a serious no-brainer. When we remember how small we are in the universe, it helps to put things in perspective. Be humble. Be kind. To yourself and others. Being out in natural beauty reminds you of why it’s amazing to be alive. Gotta appreciate that or sobriety will always be a slippery surface to navigate.Good luck my friend. Eyes on the prize, right? You can do it!

How can I learn to dance?

I danced competitively, many hours a week, for three years, and I maintain a certain base level by myself. The best way is dance classes. Maybe your community center has some, your college, a local studio. Depending on your location many or few options may be available. Some places have specific adult classes. Flexibility can be an issue as your muscles and joints start to tighten up in your teen years as you go through puberty, and without stretching they get tight. You can still develop flexibility, just not as fast as a younger kid or something. 23 years is by no means old however, so it would be a very different story if you were 33. When first starting you don't want to overkill and risk injury or simply a pulled muscle that will prevent you from trying out this really great activity. There are youtube videos of classes; however, a teacher can look at your body and teach you proper positioning and alignment; until then, I don't recommend it because body awareness is a trained skill, and even for people with a natural ability in it they need an external, trained eye to correct things that either look bad or could lead to injury. There are so many styles!Ballet - there are different schools, like Ceccheti, Vaganova, Royal Academy, there's a french one I forget at the moment. Some places just teach ballet technique without adherence to each school's specific style. This really needs a class and teacher just because there is a set proper technique for how it is done. Many students feel it can be boring, but there is a beauty to it that sometimes goes unappreciated. It can be liberating to feel like you are a beautiful poised ballerina from Swan Lake. When you learn it you can allow yourself to flow into the movement and really appreciate the graceful elegance and beauty of this styleModern - this was a reaction to the strictness of balet. There are many, many different techniques, and most teachers I know of study one, or at most a couple, techniques. Graham, Limon, and Ailey are a few examples. It is a lot freer in what is considered "dance" and forms a foundation for a lot of modern contemporary stage dance. It can be very fun, especially with improvisation, but you have to release yourself into the movement. One of my favorites.Lyrical - technically it is dance that takes inspiration from the lyrics of songs, it arose as people shifted away from orchestral compositions into "popular" music. It has themes from modern, but to me seems to stretch it a little farther while also returning to some of the roots of classical ballet. It is similar to modern, and the distinction is blurry at bestContemporary - this is where definitions get thrown out the window. It is almost easier to define contemporary as what it isn't than what it is. As a general, it stems from the modern and lyrical tradition, and really pushes the boundaries of movement as an art form. However, there is contemporary jazz and other forms that obscure that a little. The most defining feature is a constant pushing of boundaries and exploration of movement. Entry level classes can be fun and not too difficult, but at the higher levels there are extreme physical demands of strength and flexibility placed on the dancer(s). Absolutely beautiful, but can be very difficult. The same is with all of the genres though.Jazz - very fun, upbeat, and often to popular music! It is very different from classical styles, characterized by sharp, powerful movements and just an "edgy" feel rebelling from the classical style. There are some neat tricks you can learn, and having a teacher can help you make sure you are learning them right to avoid injury and look good.Hip Hop - Comes from a blend of different movement traditions, many stemming from African tribal dances. The different styles generally start in the streets of large cities and nowadays have really been picked up in mainstream American culture. There are so many different styles with different movement qualities, from very fluid, to very sharp, hard hitting, and all in between. B-boys and breakdancing are another cool style. It is so fun but if you aren't used to the movement style it can be very strange. A lot of it runs contrary to what you learn in ballet class. It is so fun though and I definitely recommend trying it at least once!Traditional dance - this can vary in availability depending on where you are. So many cultures have there own traditional dances, and learning about them can be a really interesting expose into the cultural beliefs and practices of a peoples. African tribal dance is one of the most common, usually from the West African tradition. Africa is a massive continent, and dance styles contrast dramatically between North and South. Native american dances can be very interesting, although some people have difficulty appreciating them. They were generally very significant to the individual tribe, and you have to be careful to respect the culture and peoples. Powwows, if one is near you, can be a great way to not only experience native dance but also native life and culture as well. Belly dancing is really fun, and there's often really fun accessories to wear or dance with.Latin dance is super fun, and I'm putting it separate because there are so many styles since the Americas have such diverse cultures. There is ballroom styles, salsa, merengue, tango, and then people also dance it at home and in social gatherings, like bachata, although it is usually very similar to the fancy ballroom styles. The music is bright, upbeat, and if you learn ballroom you can impress your partner ;) It is very great physical activity because it is fast. Often they use a lot of hip, and you can really learn to use your body and control it.Ballroom also includes waltz, foxtrot, square-dancing, and so many other fun social dances. Very enjoyable, and doesn't require a high level of ability unless you plan to compete; otherwise, you can pick up the basics and just get to enjoying yourself right away! This doesn't mean they aren't physically challenging though. Most of all, don't let yourself be intimidated by people who have been dancing since they were literally a day old. You have the same right as anyone else to enjoy yourself and express yourself through the wonderful, magnificent art of dance. Learning technique is important, but don't forget to let yourself just have fun. Otherwise, why bother? I wish you the best of luck and I hope you find joy in this beautiful art form the way I have.
