I’m sure that it’s heartbreaking for both William and Catherine to see Harry and his family leave the UK. The brothers has always envisioned a different path together. They’ve always been extremely close and Catherine has been like a big sister to Harry. I believe Harry when he states, “if you knew what I did you would do the same for your family”. As outsiders we are not apprised of threats and hate mail the couple has received nor their baby. Security threats to Meghan and Archie aren’t exactly tweeted out for everyone to scrutinize. I have always stated I believed the main discrimination against Meghan had more to do with her being American than race (even in recent comments). HOWEVER in the last week since their announcement I’ve been appalled seeing the overview of the racial slurs and headlines printed about Meghan over the last two years, and even their sweet innocent baby. And these are just items someone had the gall to print/ post; how much more was sent in private I wonder. I’m certain William and Catherine are heartbroken that the kingdom they will one day look after has driven away their closest and most loyal family for the sake of their own safety and stability. It’s sad and shameful. We should all be heartbroken that this type of hatred exists in the world and is given a place on news stands,twitter feed and even here on Quora. I really pray that the cousins will get to know one another and love one another. I hope as a family the Cambridges and Sussexes will find time to communicate, and use all the technological advances to remain close.

A lot of answers are based on conjecture and opinion, some include rude American slurs, but I really want to state some facts.Comparisons are frequently made between how the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge entered the family which is unfair and narrow minded. Let’s look at the facts and timeline, when Catherine and William married he was working as a rescue pilot and they went to live a few years there which gave Catherine years to acclimate to the family, acquire a suitable wardrobe slowly and even start their family privately. Catherine was not a working royal at the time and she was not expected to handle royal duties so characterizing this time as lazy is inappropriate. I believe this time to learn and study is ideal for a future Queen Consort and the privacy was ideal to build their marriage. However by the time Prince Harry married he was already a full time working royal, Prince Phillip by this time had retired for health issues, the Queen was significantly older and the Duchess of Cambridge (by now a working royal) was taking an extended maternity leave. Meghan did not decide to begin royal duties on her own; she NOR Harry make that decision. They served at the pleasure of her Majesty. The ideal and self serving thing would have been to take years away just her and Harry to acclimate, however the firm could not spare another working royal (Prince Harry) and Meghan was already a proven public speaker, comfortable with press, experienced with charity work, eloquent and hard working. They needed her to start her royal duties right away and she was willing to “hit the ground running”. The Queen went on tour with her immediately, an initiation of sorts into “The Firm”. Nothing to do with preference for grand daughter in laws and those comparisons are pure speculation.Let’s also lend facts to reports of her intent to modernize the monarchy. This was a frequent headline but not something she is quoted as saying or being her goal. Royalist were much offended by the claim that someone would attempt to modernize their antiquated monarchy, but let’s look at the facts. The monarchy has slowly modernized to survive. Royal brides stopped being expected to be virgins (the last was Diana), Royal brides have been career women (Sophie), they have been divorcees (Camilla). Realistically, Camilla actually modernized the monarchy traditions more by being a divorcee married to the HEIR to the throne and the first future queen consort once married in a catholic ceremony (in her first marriage, although remained Anglican). Meghan is reported as modernizing the monarchy just by her being the first bi-racial member of the RF and the first American member of the royal family. So which is offensive exactly?Meghan has worked for years and been in the public eye for years. Well before meeting Harry she decided to spend time on causes and with charities she respected. Even back in high school she volunteered in L.A. During all this time people who worked with her and even at her building where she filmed haven’t come forward to claim her rude or brash, but quite the opposite. They’ve come forward in defense, using their real names not anonymous sources and described her as kind, caring, hard working and professional. When she says she’s ready to hit the ground running it meant work hard, do her duty and shoulder the responsibilities along side Harry to serve his country.Sadly what Harry, Meghan and even the Queen did not realize was the amount of resentment her popularity and fame would wield upon those troubled by the notion that Meghan was somehow modernizing and changing the monarchy. Offense was taken by her being the first American bi-racial member of the RF. The RR started a campaign to malign, bully and defame both Meghan and Harry, no pictures or credible sources just rumor and lies. You have to wonder who believes these lies over the actual credible opposing accounts, and what prejudice does it serve them to believe lies over facts?Theres also a lot of misquoting of what she said in her engagement interview, although the transcript is readily available. She said, “because I’m from the States, you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family and so while I now understand very clearly, there’s a global interest there. I didn’t know much about him”She never said- I didn’t know who he was or hadn’t heard of him.She admits not having the same understanding of the RF previously from solely an American perspective than joining the family. People say she read books about Diana….that does not equate to knowing Diana’s 32 year old son; that argument is illogical. Google searches (assuming those were made) do not reveal much about an actual man; if it did none of us would have exes or failed relationships. There’s only so much we can know about someone until we actually meet them, more so once we date them. Her assertion that “I didn’t know much about him” is likely very accurate. Certainly after two years dating someone you would also look back and think I didn’t know much about him (before meeting him).I've seem a lot of prejudice and stereotypes taint the perception of Meghan, but if you look at the facts, the time period of her joining the RF, the Queen’s actions and her verifiable work history you can come to the conclusion that what she meant when stating “I’m going to hit the ground running” is her acceptance to the role she was marrying into and to the immediate obligations her husband’s life dictated.
