Ohio Arts Festivals &Amp; Competitions Directory: Fill & Download for Free

This is a surprisingly difficult question to answer! Not because there aren't such events, but because there are many such events all over the world.Because Sundance is US-based and favors independent filmmakers, I'm going to suggest the two big independent comic events in the US.First, let me say that while the Comic Cons still exist and are thriving, they are morphing into Media Con, with emphasis on Movies and Television shows, with attendance by major TV, movie, comic and gaming companies. Independent artists can and do show up, and a few hours in the various Artists Alleys are always worth the time.But for independent comic artists the two big shows in the USA are Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland and MoCCA Arts Festival in New York City.There are many other shows that exist, as well. Cartoon Crossroads Columbus in Ohio is an up and coming new festival that is guaranteed to gain traction, and Toronto Comic Arts Festival has radically opened up North American comics to Bande dessinée and Japanese Manga in one of the most delightful settings - and for my money is one the best events in North America.But if I have to pick a Sundance equivalent, I'm going for Stumptown or MoCCA.

The roads are always in repair in the summer. Orange barrels should be named the State Flower! The weather is iffy at best. Winters wet, cold and nasty. Summers hot, sticky and full of thunderstorms and tornados. The popular saying here is: “If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes.”… BUT! There is Oktoberfest, Columbus Arts festival, Rib Fest, Columbus Public Library system, Ohio Historical Museum, COSI, The TOP steakhouse, Logan’s Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Rooster’s a Fun Casual Joint,Lucky Bamboo Chinese, several great Mexican restaurants just to mention a few. There is OSU football, Columbus Crew Soccer, Blue Jackets Hockey, Clippers Baseball, Golf at Muirfield. Columbus Parks and Recreation sites, Ohio State Fair and more! Housing is good, rents reasonable in most areas. Shopping is awesome! Several shopping centers like Polaris Mall, Easton Town Center. Many big name stores like Ikea, Macy’s, Penney’s, Barnes & Noble Bookstores. Dozens of thrift stores like Salvation Army, Goodwill, Village Discount. And there’s Meijers, Walmart, KMart, Roses. There’s CAPA (performing arts), Columbus Symphony, Many great local rock, R&B, and folk bands with lots of great venues. Red White and Boom! and many great neighborhood fireworks parades and festivities. There is Ohio State University, Columbus Community College, Columbus College of Art and Design along with the Columbus Art Museum. The Columbus Public School system is not the best but is OK. Hundreds of churches, a synegog, a few mega churches like Rhema, Vineyard Columbus, and World Harvest. There are many great companies to work for like Nationwide Insurance, Battelle Institute, Ross Labs. Labcorp. Several excellent hospitals and medical centers: OSU, Riverside Methodist, Grant, Doctors, Mount Carmel, some with more than one location. Also some free clinics.Columbus is like a big city but with a small town attitude. People are friendly and even the street people will help you change a flat tire. I have lived here all my life. Can’t ever say there’s nothing to do. Can’t ever say there’s no good schooling, Can’t ever say there’s no jobs or good housing. Often it’s hard to get around in traffic and often the weather sucks, but the rest makes up for it.
