When I hire game writers, I look for those who have experience in writing short stories, novels, television or film scripts (assuming they don't have previous game writing experience) and have a portfolio of work that impresses me with their writing skill, especially with regards to the genre of the story or theme in the game I'm developing (e.g., fantasy, horror, sci-fi, comedy, mystery, etc.). I also look for people who can be creative within the constraints of the project, exhibit a work ethic of delivering on schedule, and seem like they will be pleasant to work with.The ability to write marketing content is not relevant (unless I am hiring them to write marketing content), nor is participating in online forums discussing writing. I need to see actual writing samples representing the type of work I am considering hiring them to do: world creation, character backgrounds, game stories, character dialog, mission summaries, etc.If you don't already have such a portfolio of work, I suggest putting one together. Write some short stories, dialog scenes, character sketches. If you are indeed a writer, this shouldn't be a chore or busywork for you. Writers write.

I'm 48 with Autism diagnosed at 45. I have been told that I am extremely naive because I take what others say literally. I have no tact or filter on what I say I have been told. Much like a child if you ask me if your hair looks good and i have had this happening the past. I had a friend get this perm in high school. She was an anti social kid as i was, and she asked me did i like it and i said no it looked better yesterday. The delivery of my words is matter of fact and although painfully shy I was seen as arrogant and a snob. I have a love if art and this is how I calm myself by drawing and painting which is seen as childlike by many. I dont like showers and prefer baths and I lose tract of time when taking a bath every day and have to constantly check the time or I will be late.I have always had to be on a schedule. I'm brutally honest like a child might be. I dont understand jokes and I will feel extreme anxiety if I have to hear one. I take constructive criticism very hard to the point of still obsessing over a art competition in third grade that I lost. My horse was too perfect or to “text book.” What does that mean ??? To perfect. That was a winning piece of art then so why didnt I get the blue ribbon. My feelings are still hurt and I remember events in strange detail the teacher was wearing a red scarf and her perfume was so strong like that toilet water my granny sometimes wears. Eau du toilet the name on the clear glass bottle that granny had. Which I actually thought was from the toilet .I can remember the polish on her big toe was chipped and nail polish fuchsia in color and her little toe had a lump on it and turned inward in her white sandals. I love cats and I loved my cat Moses who was with me in my 20's .I will never get over the loss of him and I will never replace him with another. I taught him many tricks because he was amazing he learned to fetch and speak and I taught him to roll over and meow while purring or trill like gizmo off gremlins did. I have tears in my eyes and haven't gotten over his death. Those who knew me never told he died and was ran over outside my apartment. I looked the town over for 10 years and never lost hope of him being found. Then I was told the truth. I was devastated and those emotions and my reaction were immature. I was told and i needed to grow up. I remember that love for him he was my best of friends and I promised him I would never have another. That's the type of things people consider childish or immature. I was out of work for a week grieving my cat and lost my job. It was not a feasible excuse for a normal person. I am naive in a way that is dangerous because I dont understanding underlying evil intentions. If you tell me something no matter how outlandish I will believe you. If you say my dog is starving and i need to feed him I will give you money. I had so many homeless people coming to eat at my house and getting toiletries and cokes etc..that it caused me to be robbed several times. I found out later some of them weren't homeless people at all they were taking advantage of me. Well that's a few examples of why I have been unknowingly immature. I have a good heart and a soft one in a world full of criminals and liars. . My advice is this if your child is different and exhibits social anxiety or has problems expressing themselves or fitting in just have them tested. Its helpful to know what you are dealing with. It can feel frustrating to have a child like I was . One you dont understand whose different than the other kids. Know you are not alone and these kids are not intentionally being difficult. They just have so much going on with the way they see, feel and interpret the world . I hope this explanation helps you I'm sure it was too long and I do sincerely apologize for losing track of time.
