Preorder Price Is $3: Fill & Download for Free

Unless you’re a super fan who wants and loves all and any Pokémon games, I’d personally recommend waiting it out until reviews and commentary are released.Pokémon games suffer from the strong potential to become more or less homogenous, given the often formulaic plot and gameplay mechanics. Previous titles have managed to find their footing as individually significant installments relatively consistently, but I did notice, especially with Pokémon X & Y, that the games have seen an apparent decline in difficulty across successive generations; those two in particular also suffered from a disproportionate pacing that saw gyms 1-3 take up almost as much as much time as the rest of the main game. Gen 6 did still manage to make its mark quite powerfully, largely on account of the franchise’s overworld revolution in the transition to the 3DS and the Mega Evolution mechanic, but its awkward pacing remained a bit disappointing nonetheless. If I had waited for feedback to come in instead of immediately preordering, I may have been more hesitant to jump aboard the hype train so quickly.The question becomes, I suppose, if redundancy compiled upon redundancy is worth the price over other fresh titles in different genres. I still love X & Y, don’t get me wrong, but I do feel that they stand as prime examples of the slowly mounting drawbacks that might come with the predictability of certain game elements. As of today (father’s day, June 19!) we’ve yet to see any major overhauls in gameplay mechanics, and given the recent introduction of the Fairy type and Mega Evolutions, I’d say it’s highly unlikely we’ll be seeing any debut in Sun & Moon. And no, Battle Royale does not count.Sun & Moon, by all accounts, might be stunning successes delineable in their own right as a meaningful progression in Pokémon history, but the relative lack of information thus far raises the potential for Pokémon fatigue; and until reliable sources can speak on the quality of the game as a whole, I do feel that it could be a ‘dangerous’ business venture to preorder so soon, especially if you’re limiting yourself to a certain gaming budget that only allots a select few other titles or are new to the Pokémon games.If money’s no question, or the occasional tedium of trying to “Catch ’em all” as the National Dex has risen from 151 to 251 to 386 to 493 to 649 to 721 and onwards hasn’t bothered you at all, I don’t see much of a reason not to preorder Sun and/or Moon and rake in those sweet commemorative preorder figures. As I understand, the preorder price is cheaper than the ordinary retail one, which might be all the more incentive to climb on board while these things are available.

Juan Huitz gave a great answer and based on his excellent numbers the sweet spot is 3 months to save $226.09 USD but I do not know what preorder offers in your country but in mine, you get over $500 worth of accessories and a free screen replacement by preordering. This means to be better off you would need to wait longer to be better off dollar wise and then you are getting to that point of relevancy as the S11s will be very close to being out.

I don't know, honestly. What does a preorder achieve, who does it really benefit? Why am I constantly fending off sales staff trying to convince me to preorder something? Why after a purchase at a game store am I asked if I'd like to preorder anything?I have a personal rule not to preorder anything because I don't trust the process and I don't understand why it's needed. It's a rule I have on occasion broken, twice this year actually, so what made me ignore my instinct and make a preorder? I honestly don't know.What does it get you?Earliest possible access? No, not necessarily, one reason I don't trust preorder is because I'm not guaranteed to get it first. The only game in history that I preordered and actually got instant access to was Witcher 3 which I digitally preordered, every other game I preordered was delayed or the release was broken. In 2011 when Skyrim was set for release I had a preorder, I knew I wanted it without a shadow of a doubt, so I preordered to ensure I could pick it up first thing. Release was broken and the game went on the shelf 2 days early, but preorders weren't notified, I didn't get mine till the release date. It didn't matter that much in the long run, but it felt like a major betrayal to the preorders who laid their money down months in advance and then weren't given priority.Better price? No, preorder prices are the same as post release, there's no savings to be had.Extra DLC? Well yeah, but is it actually any good? In my experience the DLC you get is either aesthetic or its benefits are almost indiscernible, if it was DLC you had to actually buy, you probably wouldn't.Extra Collectables? For what, you pull it out and look at it, it's cool but it's useless, you're either gonna sell it or lose it in your cluttered gaming area. What good is a collectors edition if you want to play the game? It instantly loses value the moment you open it and is rendered worthless once it's used.Make sure you don't miss out? You won't miss out, game stores order more than what they need and digital copies don't run out. Go have a look on release day, every store has a surplus, you won't miss out. If you go in the next day you'll see a surplus of returns from unhappy preorders who probably only preordered at the sales teams insistence.So what benefit do you as a customer get from preordering? I can't think of any and so I don't preorder anymore... unless I do. I preorder games in franchises I'm very familiar with and know for sure I want, games I've been anticipating for a long time, but it doesn't benefit me in any real way.Why do I think you should preorder? I don't think you should preorder, but then again, it probably won't hurt you, so if you really want a game, place a preorder, just don't expect to be any better off for it. Either way, you're gonna play it. Don't let a salesman guilt you into preordering something you're not sure you want though, save preorders for titles you're sure of.
