PDF Editor FAQ

What is your favorite Percy Jackson OC (own creation) you've created, and why?

I spent a long time on her, and she’e the only full, developed OC that I have, so brace yourselves;Full Name: Marin Reaves (‘Marin’ means ‘sea of bitterness or sorrow’, which fits really well with her godly parent. It can also mean ‘rebellion’, which links to how she came about. Plus, it’s just a nice name.)Nickname(s): Marnie (by her dad); Storm (sarcastic nickname by Zaida , after the superhero — it’s because of her powers, and Marin protesting that ‘they don’t work like that’ just makes the nickname stick even more. She was first uncomfortable with the nickname, but she slowly got over what made her uncomfortable, and is fine being called it now even though she pretends not to be); Mars (by Caelan — a shortened version of her name, and also describes her interest in weapons); Coral Typhoon (Fake name for herself which she came up during a quest. She’s planned out the first name, and it came from a pleasant memory of snorkelling in a coral reef when she was younger. She was going to use her surname as a fake surname, but in the moment she thought ‘Coral Reaves’ sounded stupid, unconvincing, and too much like ‘coral reef’. She was really angry at herself for this oversight, as she prides herself on her ability to plan ahead and stay calm under pressure) and is pretty embarrassed whenever the fake name is brought up.)Height/weight: 1.68 m, 62.43 kgDescription of appearance/link: She has shoulder-length dirty blonde hair that she keeps in a long-ish, tidy bob (even if it’s a battle to brush her hair every morning, as her neat tendencies tend to abandon her when she’s in her subconscious). However, it’s kept in a short ponytail when she’s fighting, and is usually tied back by a certain dark blue-grey (I forgot what the name of the colour is, if there even is one) hair tie. She has round eyes which are light blue and can seem a little too bright — especially as her skin is quite tanned —, unsettling people, and she’s not very proud of this feature. Her ears are average sized, and her face is square-shaped according to those charts. Her nose is pretty long and straight, with a rounded (as opposed to angled) end.She has a pretty bad case of spots on her forehead (despite her washing her face every morning and doing her best to treat it), and a beauty spot under her left eye. Apart from that, she has a darker spot slightly above her right wrist (ovular, about two and a half centimetres long and four centimetres wide). When she smiles, there’s a single dimple in her left cheek.Though she’s quite tall, she has a pretty slim build (though her feet are slightly larger than average), and has a rectangle body type. Because of this, she’s pretty agile, meaning her battle style consists of a lot of ducking, dodging, and keeping at a (relative) distance while she uses her spear. She wears a Camp Half-Blood T-shirt, which is sometimes accompanied with a denim jacket, and a pair of jeans (which are notable for the fact that they don’t have any holes). The only ‘messy’ part of her outfit are a few string-tie bracelets around her wrist — the string is coming loose from her picking at them to occupy her ADHD, which is also the main reason she wears them. However, there’s one bracelet that isn’t picked at at all, which is a simple black one with a small gold star pendant, and was supposed to be a gift from her stepmother for her thirteenth birthday but was given to her by her dad (though the surface of the star pendant isn’t that clear due to her running her fingers over it sometimes).Overall, she isn’t too concerned about ‘enhancing’ her appearance with makeup and stuff, but she still likes to look tidy. After all, if you can look decent, why don’t you?Birthdate: 28/04/06Godly parent: KymopoleiaPowers from godly parent: Most of her powers are sea-storm related, which is a little unfortunate seeing as she’s scared of them due to one she was caught in along with her dad, stepmum and half-brother. While most of them survived (partly due to godly interference — this will be explained in the backstory), her stepmother didn’t make it, and it was a pretty horrible experience anyway so she wants to avoid things like that as much as she can.(Though there seem to be quite a lot, most only work when she’s out at sea.)- The perks of Dyslexia and ADHD, like with most other demigods.- She can increase wave height up to about two metres at the shore, and up to five metres in the open ocean — lower than heights of waves in an actual storm, but still high enough to do some damage. She can also reduce them to their normal size.- When at sea, she’s able to tell when there’s a sea storm within ten miles of her if she focuses (seeing as this is a nearly-passive sensing ability, not an actual use-it-to-battle-monsters ability, it hopefully isn’t too much).- She isn’t affected by minor weather conditions. These consist of temperatures ranging from 12.5 to 27.5 degrees Celsius (past that she gets hotter/colder at the same rate a normal human would going from 20 to 15 degrees Celsius, for instance) and winds up to five metres per second. She also doesn’t get wet in light rain.- Only when at sea, she can increase wind speed up to 35 mph (about 15.6 m/s; this is compared to an actual storm’s 55 mph winds), though as she’s not immune to this she has to be careful.- She can summon storm clouds at sea. However, only existing storm clouds can be called in, and the further away they are, the harder it is and the more drained she feels afterwards. The maximum range is about ten miles (which isn’t that big for the open ocean), though this leaves her feeling very dizzy, very tired, and extremely light-headed.- She can create clouds at sea, but this only results in mid-strength rainfall, and no lightning whatsoever.- Lightning resistance (but not immunity) — she can withstand up to 15 kA and 65 kV without getting hurt, and up to 30 kA and 95 kV without getting seriously injured. Any higher than that and quite a lot of Nectar and Ambrosia (for demigods) needs to be taken. 50 kA and 130 kV is where it starts getting fatal for her. This means that she can withstand weak lightning bolts, though stronger ones can still kill her. Unfortunately, this means that she can be killed by the lightning of a storm she summoned herself.Age at beginning of book: Almost exactly 16Personality: Marin is the sort of person who goes with their head rather than their heart. She values logic over emotions and intuition, and because of this she comes off as a bit insensitive. That insensitivity extends past others, however; she isn’t very in tune with her own feelings either, though she sometimes tries to express them as best she can to people who are close to her. This can be hard, however, as she isn’t very honest with matters concerning herself (maybe because she can’t understand them fully), and because of this she can accidentally keep too many feelings pent up inside them until they finally burst out in one go. The danger of this is that she doesn’t even realise she’s doing this. Despite that subconscious lack of honesty with herself, she values honesty a lot, and prides herself on her moral compass. Because of this, she can seem quite self-righteous at times. The value she places on honesty also causes her to be pretty blunt with other people, and she hates things that she sees as ‘fake’ (which is why she doesn’t like wearing makeup). However, she can be pretty sarcastic (because she’s not lying if everyone knows it’s lying). Her go-to sense of humour is either that or deadpan. She’s quite cautious (she knows what she likes and sticks with it, and doesn’t like rushing into danger, even if it’s necessary) and hesitant to break rules, and because of this she always prefers to have a plan before doing anything adventurous, dangerous, or new. This can cause problems on quests where there’s no time for this caution. Unfortunately, her cautious tendencies are only worsened by her extreme stubbornness, though the upside of that stubbornness is that she’s extremely determined and resilient. Hard work definitely pays off, and she makes sure to try and get the best of her into every situation she’s in, honing her skills rather than relying on luck or talent. These natures can clash sometimes — her resilience compelling her to complete the quests she’s on, but her caution trying to hold her back from the danger that always comes with them. She’s really good at recalling what happened in the past, and tries her best to learn from it and use it to advise her what to do in the present. Because of this, she’s really good at spotting discrepancies between things, or if things aren’t backed up at all or even disproven by past experience (this is quite hard in the demigod world, but she’s working on understanding it and its limits so she get get a sense of it again), and can sense of someone’s not quite ‘right’, even if she isn’t very in tune with their emotions. She’s pretty introverted — though she can stand being around others, she needs a little time to herself sometimes, and prefers hanging out with a close circle of friends than with a lot of people she already knows. When she was younger she used to have quite a wide circle of friends, and has good memories with them, which is why she tried being a social butterfly as a coping mechanism after her family was caught in a storm at sea and her stepmother died. This didn’t work, however, as she needed to ‘recharge’ herself and was using the people as more of a means to an end and never really felt any sort of friendship or connection. That may be because it takes a lot for somebody to be seen as a ‘friend’ in Marin’s eyes, but once they pass the test, she’s extremely loyal and actually quite caring. She can be quite sentimental about things she views as important, which is why she always wears that bracelet despite not being much of a jewellery person. Her occasion really annoys her, as she knows it’s not at all logical, but she can’t help it despite that. Likewise, she honours traditions that are important to her despite not having a practical use.She tries to keep a calm head and look at things objectively (and she’s pretty good under pressure), but she can be quick to anger if someone pushes the right buttons (saying she doesn’t have feelings due to her cold, logical approach to things; repeatedly insulting her close friends and family; saying Marvel is better than DC, etc.). Her anger is more on the ‘hot’ side of the spectrum; she becomes irrational and her thoughts become clouded, but at least she’s aware that she’s not in control. She can also get stressed out about certain things — for example, she likes to complete things on time, and so when a deadline of something gets really near, she loses her calm approach somewhat. She has a pretty wide range of random knowledge (mostly facts and statistics, though, not a deep understanding of how a specific concept works), and likes collecting more facts and then putting them to use. This ‘use’ can concern both day-to-day life, and puzzles such as crosswords, which she likes because it gives her a small sense of accomplishment (the knowledge is being used in a tangible, helpful way). She’s pretty good at recalling ones that could have a use in certain stressful situations, which is really helpful. She’s quite an independent person (though she still thinks it’s ok to depend slightly on people very close to her), and because of this she can be a little bit of a control freak over aspects of her own life. This partially stems from the storm, which was a natural occurrence (or so she thinks; this is explained more in her backstory) that she had no control over, and yet it affected her life more than anything she ever did herself did (the plan-for-everything tendencies stem from this, too). This experience, along with her determination, lead to an attitude that she’s going to shape her own life by herself, and nothing’s going to stop her. However, she’s one of the most responsible people in her friend group, and keeps everyone out of danger regularly. When they (especially Caelan) inevitably do get into some unnecessary danger, she’s the one that follows them to pull them out of it, loyalty and desire to see nobody else die winning out over caution. That doesn't stop her scolding them afterwards, though. Due to her habit of planning ahead, she’s also the one who comes up with most of the plans for what to do (which mainly apply to how they’re going to survive day-to-day demigod life in the wild as opposed to actual battle strategies. She likes the idea of strategies, but isn’t the sort of person to come up with one, though she does help in refining them and minimising risk). She feels really touched when she’s appreciated for her efforts and hard work to do with this, though she doesn’t show it.Above all, Marin really wants to have some sort of goal in life, and wants to feel like she’s achieved something when she leaves it. Because of this, she can feel really uncomfortable and ‘lost’ when she feels like she’s drifting aimlessly, and can become more easily stressed and snappish if she feels this is the case. The ‘goal’ should be something she feels like she can actually achieve, laid out in small, clear, manageable steps (so it’s easy to measure achievement), rather than some big, spiritual life purpose, though.*Her cautious tendencies — seeming very out of place for the daughter of a chaos goddess — stem from the fact that during the holiday with the storm, there were two options: going where she always went for the summer holidays, and going on a yacht cruise. Obviously, the latter was chosen, and you know what happened because of that. She stays out of danger and sticks with what she likes because last time she didn’t, her stepmother died because of it.Likes:- The numbers seven, thirteen and thirty-two — seven because it’s the number of the original founding members of the Justice League, thirteen because it was the number of figurines her dad kept on his desk, and thirty-two because it was the number of clock ticks she could count up to without getting bored when she was younger and it just stuck. Marin tends to have a good memory for those sorts of things, too. Though she doesn’t consciously think of these as being lucky numbers, things associated with these give off a good vibe in her subconscious.- Halloween and pumpkin orange — one of her first memories is of her first Halloween when she dressed up. She made a big fuss about putting on a costume as she didn’t want to be seen ‘lying’ and pretending to be someone/something else. It took a lot of explaining from her father to make her understand that that was the point, and by the time he was finished and they finally got around to trick-or-treating, there were hardly any sweets left. However, she still looks back on that day fondly, and her favourite holiday has been Halloween ever since. One of her favourite colours is pumpkin orange due to that, despite not liking pumpkins themselves.- Bottle green — it was the colour of her favourite duvet cover when she was about three, and it just sort of stuck (like things do at that age).- Tropical fish — a school of one made an octopus that had scared her while she was in an aquarium dart away from her.- Used to like Dora the Explorer — it was her favourite show as a young child, as she loved the idea of a young girl going on adventures and helping/saving people. At least, that was her reasoning when she got older and really, really grew out of it. The real reason was probably something to do with the audience participation in certain adventures.- Dark chocolate — it’s even better when there’s some ginger in there, too.- Atlantis: The Lost Empire — it was her favourite movie while growing up.- She’s on Team Pineapple Pizza- Mexican food — her favourite is a hard-shell taco with pulled pork, green peppers and cheese, with hot salsa and guacamole on the side.- Despite her like of spicy things, she has a soft spot for Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino’s.- Iced Mango Tea- Her favourite fruit is a lychee- Pistachio ice cream- The aftermath of a downpour where everything’s misty, calm, and grey, and you have that nice, fresh-but-musty rain smell.- Ticking things off her to-do list, and the satisfaction of a job well done — this is just really satisfying to her, knowing that she’s made a tangible impact on something with her best self.- Cold, snowy days — they remind her of a skiing holiday she went on when she was thirteen.- Quiet/silence — this mostly came from her growing up in Smithtown, where continuous city noise wasn’t really an issue. After her stepmother’s death and the family moving to the centre of Brooklyn, she began to miss this quite a lot.- Detective movies/shows/books — she loves following the story and trying to put the puzzle pieces together, and her logic and general knowledge sometimes help with that. She’s a casual viewer of BBC Sherlock, and likes it, but she can’t get into it obsessively as sometimes the logic leaps are a bit too much for her. She especially likes detective books that link into history, and some of her favourite books are The Daughter of Time and The Da Vinci Code. She also finds the completely third-person narrative of The Maltese Falcon interesting.- She’s surprisingly ok with thriller novels — they’re pretty similar to detective ones, and she also views them as a safe way to experience adrenaline, and therefore live in the present (especially since the books usually take place in the real world).- Her favourite genre of music is 70s/80s pop, as it’s nice music and it’s not too flashy or repetitive like she finds modern pop music.- Crosswords — she enjoys occupying her time with them as a way to ‘test’ her general knowledge, and seeing all the pieces (words) come together is really satisfying for her, as she feels like all the work has been paid off. She also likes Trivial Pursuit.- When she was younger, she really looked up to DC’S Supergirl due to the fact that strong, intelligent, blonde female characters in fiction are very sparse. Supergirl was also the first DC comic book that her dad gave her. After going to CHB and inevitably learning about the stories of the seven and stuff, she begins really looking up to Annabeth, too.Dislikes:- Easter and white rabbits — she stayed in a hotel with her dad and her aunt during the Easter holidays when , and there was a person dressed up in a rather frightening Easter Bunny costume. She got scared and, though she did well in the egg hunt following the encounter, Easter was never the same for her since. She’s had it out for white rabbits since then, too, which probably explains why that was her least favourite character in Alice in Wonderland.- Octopi and rocks in the sea — this is linked in with the liking tropical fish thing. She went to an aquarium for the first time when she was three and a half, and she was staring at a rock in an enclosure. Suddenly, a then-camouflaged octopus got up from it and swam away, scaring her. Ever since then, she’s disliked octopi and has been slightly paranoid around rocks in the sea.- The sea-rock dislike/paranoia was not helped by a tropical holiday when she was nine. She’d gone on a snorkelling trip to a coral reef, was searching for shells, and swam a bit too close to a rock which turned out to be home to a sea-urchin. It wasn’t poisonous or a deep scratch, she was fine, and it didn’t really dent the memory of the trip, but she grew ever-more wary of those rocks.- Bob the Builder — it was her least favourite show growing up. She found the premise dull (nearly all the episodes were about the exact same thing, in her eyes; needing to build something, finding a problem with the build, and then overcoming it — it was just too repetitive), the theme song boring, and the talking vehicles creepy.- Action movies — she thinks they’re too over-the-top, and especially doesn’t like the ones that are set it the real world because then there isn’t even an excuse to be unrealistic. She sees them as too repetitive and dull (here’s an explosion, let’s run away from it, and repeat the same thing for about half the film!), even though this usually isn’t the case. She’s only watched a few, and those were from the back lines (as in she wasn’t sitting in front of the TV watching it, but another person was watching, she was in the background, and she absorbed some of it), but due to her stick-to-what-she-likes, stubborn tendencies she’s probably not going to watch one that changes her mind.- Green tea — she thinks it’s too bitter.- Ketchup- Broccoli and celery- She isn’t the biggest fan of Indian food, despite her like of spices. In her opinion, the cuisine relies too much on spices for the actual food to be any good.- Conchiglie pasta with pesto (any pasta with pesto, really, but especially that one)- Prophecies and not feeling like she’s in control of her own destiny — Marin hates being tossed around by fate and feeling like she’s more of a tool in some grander scheme, and because of that, she hates prophecies (as they prove that there’s something dictating what’s going to happen, and nothing she can do will change that — and she’s tried to). She’s not too fond of the idea of an omniscient, omnipotent god either, due to the same reasons, and she was a firm atheist before coming to Camp Half-Blood- She also doesn’t like prophecies because of their cryptic nature, as she prefers more straightforward presentations of facts. This is, in its own way, a good thing, because they can have multiple outcomes, but prophecies are one thing that irks Marin to no end so she doesn’t really see that.- Overly ‘showy’ people — they’re annoying and feel really fake to her- Slow walkers/drivers — this actually links into the not-being-thrown-around-by-fate aspect of her personality. If she wants to complete something or go somewhere, she’d like to do it on time. People who walk/drive really, really slowly are a random factor affecting her life that she has no control over, and she doesn’t like them because of this. Also, they’re annoying.- Natural open spaces — they make her feel like she’s at the mercy of the elements, and as such not in control of what’s happening to her. This was largely influenced by the storm, when the boat was in the middle of a vast, open sea.- Extremely small spaces — growing up in the suburbs, her house was relatively spacious, and as such she never had experience with very small, very cramped spaces. She had trouble adjusting to her new life in the city due to this (and due to her preference for quiet, too).- Crowds — it’s not really the people, it’s how physically close the people are to her, and how loud every single person is being.- Repeating noises (as in the noun, not as in her being the one who’s repeating noises) in an otherwise quiet place, especially when she’s trying to relax — this stemmed from her like of quiet. If a place is ‘faking’ silence — as in, being very quiet but with a noticeable background noise — she isn’t too happy about it, especially as certain noises are much more notable in a place that’s otherwise silent. Noises like clock ticks, which start then stop then start again, are also much more noticeable than continuous noises like the hum of a fan. She also doesn’t like people who randomly tap the table or click pens because of this.- People who take more space than they need to in public (for example when one person sits down on a four-seater of a train) — a pet peeve of hers. They’re not using the space efficiently, it has no logical advantages, and it’s just really annoying.- Overly superstitious people — another pet peeve of hers. She just doesn’t see how random things can make other, completely unrelated things happen, and nothing anyone else says can change that. Because of that, she really doesn’t like people who rely on the state of a mirror’s brokenness, or on the colour of a cat.- That thing where you try to use sellotape but it gets all crumpled up and sticks to your fingers and it’s just messy and annoying — it disrupts her preferred sense of neatness and order, and like what was mentioned before, it’s annoying.- More of a pretty big fear than a dislike, but sea storms, and being far out at sea (for obvious reasons). Because creating those storms is her main power, and it’s the most powerful in the middle of the ocean, the fear of this is pretty unfortunate.- Heavy metal — she finds it much too loud and shouty. She also isn’t that much of a fan of rock music in general, or country music, which she finds slightly naïve and a bit pretentious.- When people solely rely on their emotions to do every single thing — it’s more of an irk than an actual dislike, but it still... well, irks her. People who do that are throwing all logic out of the window, which increases the probability that what they’re doing is ‘wrong’ (in her eyes). Another reason why this irks her is that she doesn’t really understand it, and because of that it’s very much in the realm that her caution tends to get her to avoid — though she wouldn’t really admit this. Some of her friends help her with understanding it, and that helps her with her attitude to this in general.- She doesn’t really like her status as a demigod, as that makes it almost impossible for her to plan for her future (with all the monster attacks, summers spent at Camp which means it’s pretty hard to study [especially as there aren’t really any electronics allowed at Camp], and stupid prophecies with their occasional quests).Interests:- Superheroes — she used to have a bit of an obsession with them when she was younger, and though she doesn’t want to admit it, a lot of that knowledge stayed with her and she still geeks out occasionally. She’s more DC than Marvel, prefers the comics to modern films (as she’s still not too fond of films that focus a lot on action), prefers engaging with the lore more than reading the comics (and the more complicated lore of DC is why she likes it more), and her favourite superhero is Supergirl.- Creating comics — she and her dad used to draw some of their own. In the storm’s immediate aftermath, she started drawing a panel a day as a sort of self-induced therapy. The habit stuck, and became a bit of a tradition, and she’s had a habit of drawing a panel a day — which takes a long time, especially since she’s pretty perfectionistic when it comes to things important to her — since then. Quite a lot of these panels were inspired by her demigod dreams (as she’s not the best at thinking up crazy scenarios on the spot), and she’s working on one based on her adventures — under the pretense that it’s all fictional, of course. Because the things she remembers most vividly is the action, it takes up most of the panels/plot, and she needs to work on the scenes in which a conversation, or nothing much at all, is happening.- Learning about Greek weapons — ever since she came to Camp Half-Blood, she’s been fascinated by the weapons there — how they work, why they were designed the way they were, why they were made in the first place. It gives her something that’s both fun and informative to do, and she thinks that understanding them will make her better at using them. She especially likes learning about the history of them.- Skiing — in the half term holiday after the storm, she and her aunt went on a skiing holiday (‘in order to distract us,’ as her aunt had said. ‘She’d have wanted us to be happy.’) while her dad and brother had to stay behind due to work and school. Though both of them spent most of the time stuck in the snow after a fall, it did turn out to be a welcome distraction from the recent events, and gave both of them something to laugh about. Ever since then, Marin and her aunt have a habit of going skiing every winter.- Computer Science* — Marin’s dad was a software developer who used to work at home when Marin was young (in order to spend more time with her), and as such she was sometimes present when he was programming. Marin took an interest in this; she looked up to her dad a lot, and what he was doing seemed interesting. Seeing this, her dad taught her the basics of computer code when he had some free time, and her highly logical mind worked well with the problems one had to overcome while coding. Due to both these things, she was ahead of her class at school and because of this, she joined a club which only served to fuel her interest even more. She was pretty disappointed when she found out you couldn’t use electronics at camp, and so keeps a notebook with all her coding ideas. The problem-solving skills she‘s learnt while pursuing this hobby help a lot during quests, and in her day-to-day life.*I think the no-demigod-technology thing only applies to communication technology, and to the internet — Percy’s described as liking video games, which wouldn’t be possible if a demigod couldn’t turn on an iPad or something near them. Coding isn’t used for communication (or it doesn’t have to be, anyway), and it doesn’t need the internet, so hopefully Marin’s safe.Worst fear: Being the cause of the deaths of people closest to her (because she couldn’t keep them out of danger). She’s already experienced the death of someone close, and she hates it, and if all her caution with other people as well as herself and her dedication to those close to her amounts to that, she’s not sure if she could take it.Romantic/sexual orientation: Lesbian (which is strange for her as in her eyes, it feels not exactly dangerous but adventurous by society’s standards — something she’s not really used to. This could be a reason why she only started a relationship after she’d been on her own physical adventures.)Friendships/romantic interests:Romantic interests:- Zaida Verdine — a laid-back, carefree, and empathetic daughter of Tyche*, Zaida is the one to slowly bring Marin out of her caution-induced shell. Her empathetic nature makes her an excellent listener when Marin’s bottled up too many feelings and needs to let them out (and being able to let her feelings out to a trustworthy source subconsciously helps Marin become slightly more in tune with them herself). She’s one of the main ways Marin eventually got over her stepmother’s death. However, Zaida also helps Marin realise that sometimes it’s ok to have unplanned fun, and her open-mindedness slowly opens Marin’s own mind up, too. Zaida also helps Marin get the credit she deserves, and though she pretends not to like it, she does love feeling appreciated and feeling like she’s part of a working system. In turn, Marin helps keep Zaida grounded, and provides her with a down-to-earth, practical window to life. Her determination to see things through helps Zaida with her more flighty and procrastinatory tendencies. Though Marin’s not as good of a listener, she still helps Zaida by planning a solution to any problems she might have, and her extremely loyal nature means she’s always there for Zaida in her own way. There are sometimes problems — such as when Marin’s ‘head’ approach conflicts with Zaida’s ‘heart’ one — but they’re usually solved when Zaida explains the problem from her point of view, and from what she sees as Marin’s point of view (which is usually correct). Marin, trusting Zaida and slightly affected by the more quiet, open-your-heart-out atmosphere, opens up and tells Zaida anything she missed, and then suggests a solution to the problem (if there’s a physical one). The solution is usually a compromise despite Marin’s stubbornness and independence, as her determination to make the relationship work wins out against the other two. Zaida and Marin can both usually sense if someone’s trustworthy or not, Zaida due to her extraversion and empathy, and Marin because of her natural scepticism and ability to notice small details about things and people.- They met when they were toured around Camp Half-Blood together, as they arrived at a similar time, and since Marin doesn’t go out of her way to meet new people, she stuck pretty close to Zaida. She chose the daughter of Tyche as one of her partners when she was chosen to lead a quest, and they built up a strong friendship before it eventually developed into a romantic relationship.*Thankfully she’s not very superstitious — she’s just naturally lucky, knows it, and uses it to her advantage. It may actually be because of this luck that she doesn’t believe very much in superstition; she’s already very lucky, so a four-leafed clover can’t increase it that much, and that luck’s too consistent for a black cat to do any damage.Friendships:- Caelan Katsaros — an outgoing and adrenaline seeking son of Nike. Despite his extroverted and flirtatious nature and his tendency to value excitement over both logic and empathy (Marin understands the concept of empathy, she just isn’t good at using it), she is surprised to find that they often agree on how to problem solve, both leaning towards a practical (even if not necessarily risk-free, in Caelan’s case) solution. Due to both Ayla and Zaida’s tendencies to think more about what could be than what is, Marin finds it refreshing to have someone who is at least slightly more logical. He also has a pretty great sense of humour, which Marin can actually get because of his more down-to-earth way of looking at things. He also plays a big part in bringing Marin out of her shell, but where Zaida does it in a gentle way, Caelan goes full on out and regularly brings Marin out of her comfort zone (usually by doing something dangerous, just because he can and not to force Marin to follow him—but Marin follows him anyway, caring about him and getting really, really annoyed with him afterwards for putting them both in a situation like that). To her surprise, Marin kind of likes the adrenaline rush a bit, though she’d never admit it and would never, ever do anything for the sole reason of causing her to feel that way. Caelan also really helps Marin to actually live in the present, something she desires and that she’s really grateful for. Having Marin for a friend, meanwhile, helps Caelan to think things through at least a bit more, and stops him running headfirst into dangerous situations that much. At times, she disapproves of Caelan’s attitude to things, but respects that he’s trying to help her and not hiding anything about his intentions — and when all’s said and done, a bond Marin forms with someone is not easily broken at all. He toured Marin and Zaida around Camp, Zaida bonded with him, they tried to include her in their conversation and friendship (and didn’t really succeed at first, but she respected that), she later went to Caelan to ask about Camp as he was the only experienced person she knew and wasn’t angry with at the time, and the friendship blossomed from there.- Ayla — a half-nymph daughter of Aeolus. Marin doesn’t really approve of her most of the time, as she hardly works hard on anything, preferring to get by on talents she already has — because if there’s more time for fun and feeling, why don't you use it to have fun and to feel things, especially if you’re doing fine in life (except, since Ayla basically hasn’t been in the outside world at all, spending all of her pre-quest time in either Aeolus’ palace or Camp Half-Blood, she sometimes misjudges her own abilities, which can lead to a lot of problems). She places a lot of importance on emotions, and on feeling everything she can, and she isn’t very connected to the world of current events, which again, Marin doesn’t really understand or approve. Though she has a logical side, she mainly uses it for fun instead of using it to actually find practical solutions to everyday life. However, she’s still introverted at heart, and though she can talk nearly forever about topics that interest her, she’s usually a lot quieter than Caelan and Zaida, which Marin can appreciate sometimes. She, like Marin, is also very loyal to a few certain people and to her values, even though those values are different. Knowing the importance she places on emotions, Marin sometimes goes to her for emotional advice (usually concerning her relationship with Zaida, and as such this was pretty common during the relationship’s early phases), and though Ayla can’t exactly advise Marin very well about that, being asexual as well as autistic, she tries to help, which Marin appreciates (even though Ayla’s not very good at explaining things and Marin can’t understand what she’s really saying a lot of the time). She, Marin and Caelan also sometimes get together and have some logic/problem solving time, which they enjoy quite a lot.Marin, along with Zaida and Caelan, met Ayla after she’d been following their quest (after a prophetic demigod-ish dream concerning it, and out of a desire to keep the events that she saw from happening, as well as having an excuse to experience some adventure).Enemies/antagonists:- Evan Redfern — though they’re now on the same side, they first met when Evan had attacked them (in what he saw as self-defense) and driven them up to Aeolus’ palace. Obviously, this had some impact on how she sees him. They have pretty similar personalities — both preferring to keep their feelings to themselves, to keep themselves to themselves, to not trust people instantly, and to plan ahead — but this tends to drive them apart rather than together. Evan is also very manipulative, having to do that to survive, but no matter the reason Marin looks down on this a lot, and distrusts and dislikes him because of this. They tend to avoid each other whenever they’re in close quarters.- She doesn’t really like the Aphrodite, Ares or most of the Tyche cabin — she sees the Aphrodite cabin as air-headed and superficial, the Ares cabin as overly brawny and stupid, and most of the Tyche cabin as too reliant on their superstitions, even though this isn’t always the case. She’s a little uncomfortable with the Hermes cabin too, considering their dad’s reputation as the god of thieves. This stereotyping distances her from quite a lot of people at Camp, though she develops a better attitude towards this after going on her quest. She doesn’t have many actual enemies/unfriendly rivals at CHB, though, as she doesn't go out of her way to meet (or interact with) people.Other:- Terran Coppice — the satyr who led Marin to Camp Half-Blood. Although they were originally friends, Marin grew to have some distrust of him as she knew he was hiding something. After he revealed the demigod world and Camp Half-Blood to her, she was really angry because he’d been lying for the whole year, and she values honesty a lot. She couldn’t really get why he’d been hiding these things — he’d told her about not knowing who you are making it harder for monsters to smell her, but it still didn’t make logical sense to her. How would withholding really, really important information help you survive? She eventually got over that anger some time after arriving at Camp, but ever since then she’s kept her distance from him as she still felt a slight sense of animosity, and their friendship has never been the same since.- Ayumu Alaya — a child of Morpheus who joined their questing group near the end of the series. They’re both introverted, and they don’t really make an effort to get to know each other. They don’t necessarily avoid each other, and there isn’t any dislike, but Marin prefers sticking close to the people she knows (especially since Ayumu joined their questing group during a very turbulent time, but I have a whole arc planned out for that and I don’t want to spoil it)Backstory: Shortly after Briares was captured by the Titan Army, Kymopoleia — revelling in her newfound freedom — took this opportunity to take mortal form for a while. This was mainly done to strike fear into the hearts of (or at least to intimidate) random, unsuspecting mortals without using her chaos powers, as these were still being slightly restricted by Poseidon, and nobody would know it was her causing sea storms, anyway. However, she caught the eye of a 29-year-old software developer named Tobias Reaves, and this attention did not go unnoticed. Though she didn’t feel the same way about him, thinking about his potential romantic feelings re-ignited her hatred of her hundred-handed husband — her good-for-nothing, hundred-handed husband who she was just given away to with no choice in her own destiny whatsoever. Well, he wasn’t there now; he’d gone and got his sorry self captured, and there was nothing stopping her from making her own path, her own legacy-Out of spite, she had a child with Tobias and returned to the sea, having accomplished her original goal as well as what she viewed as a revenge mission. Not wanting people to know about the child (not that she cared about Briares’ feelings; they could go to Tartarus for all she cared, and he was imprisoned, anyway. No, the main problem lay with her father. Explaining the child would mean explaining why she’d gone up to the mortal world in the first place, and seeing as he was actively restricting her chaotic powers, him finding out that she’d gone there solely to cause chaos and fear... well, it wouldn’t end very nicely), she contacted Hermes — seeing as he was the god of thieves and a bit of a troublemaker, keeping some more trouble a secret shouldn’t be too much to ask — to deliver her to her mortal father.Growing up, Marin’s life was relatively easy. She had a caring father, a caring aunt that often came to visit, and seeing as she wasn’t the child of an Olympian, or Hades, monsters didn’t catch her scent very often. She grew up a pretty outgoing child (even if she needed to be alone for a while after spending a lot of time with other people) with a strong moral compass, liking Dora the Explorer — though she later grew out of it and began questioning why she’d ever liked it in the first place —, hating Bob the Builder, and sharing many fond memories with her dad. Her hobby of drawing a comics came from a similar hobby her dad had had when he was younger, and it was only strengthened by her discovery of DC comics when she was about eight. When she was nine and a half years old, a new person came into her life — Kyra Martin, a woman who her dad had been going out with for a while at his work. Marin and Kyra — though Kyra liked Marin and, according to Marin’s nine-year-old mind, the new lady seemed nice — never really developed that strong of a bond (though she was still an important person in Marin’s life), although Marin and her brother, who came into the world a year later, did. Overall, it seemed that the average troubled life most demigods had didn’t seem to be affecting her. However, unbeknownst to her, trouble had already come in the summer of 2008; when Percy Jackson made all the gods swear to claim their children by the time they turned 13. Kymopoleia, now beginning to regret her impulsive decision, planned various attempts to eliminate her child before she turned 13 — but she could never quite bring herself to carry them out. She tried to rationalise it by telling herself there weren’t any proper opportunities, but that was a lie; she’d had the perfect opportunity when Marin had gone snorkelling in a tropical reef somewhere at the age of nine. The whole thing confused the storm goddess, but the truth had already planted its seeds. Marin may have been just another puny demigod, but she was her puny demigod, and a part of her resided in that fragile little soul. The more she observed the girl while looking for openings to kill her (and even now the though didn’t sit quite right with her), the harder it became — until one day when the reality of it all hit her with horrifying precision. She, Kymopoleia, had become attached to a mortal.Fuelled by her anger, afraid of what implications this may have, and with Marin getting closer and closer to thirteen, Kymopoleia saw an opportunity — a yacht cruise during the Easter holidays, in the place of the family’s usual holiday to ____ — and she was not going to rid herself of this chance. And so, at 1:28 a.m. on the sixteenth of April 2019 (just less than two weeks from Marin’s thirteenth birthday), a storm struck the ship.Marin, out on the deck — who’d woken up a few minutes beforehand sensing something was wrong — could do nothing but scream for her dad and brother as waves threw themselves against the ship and thunder crackled overhead. She didn’t notice how the waves directly around her seemed to be smaller than the others, and she certainly didn’t notice the glowing symbol above her head — all that mattered was that the ship, and her world, were in chaos, and that the rest of her family were probably already dead. Even this terror didn’t last long, however, because soon an especially large wave from the other side of the ship crashed into her and knocked her, unconscious, into the sea.Kymopoleia, seeing this (as she was below the ship, causing the storm), found that she was unable to carry out the plan to its full extent, though she was furious with herself for this as she’d thought she’d gotten over this stupid attachment. Perhaps it was because there wasn’t a reason anymore — the middle of the storm, where no god would notice and no nature spirit would dare come close, was the perfect place to claim Marin, and she didn’t pass up this opportunity. Yes, that was why — though a nagging voice in the back of her head reminded her that she’d never had any trouble causing chaos for then sake of chaos before. Still more confusing was the fact that she found herself encasing the unconscious girl in a bubble shortly after she’d fallen into the sea, before she had a chance to take a breath. The bubble slowly floated upwards, and soon Marin was back on the now thoroughly drenched surface of the boat.Well, there was no reason to kill off a part of her, now, was there? And yet she hated what she’d done, both starting the storm and in the role she played within it. Disgusted with herself, the goddess left her daughter with the intent to stay away for good — and when she left, the storm left with her.Marin was safe, but her stepmother had died during the storm, and the loss affected them all. Her dad moved out of Smithtown to Brooklyn, their old house reminding him too much of Kyra. His sister (Marin’s aunt) visited them quite often, providing support both emotionally and financially, as Marin’s dad had taken a break from getting a job when they moved to help Marin and her brother emotionally, too. Being only three years old, and having been asleep through most of the storm, her brother didn’t really remember his mum or what happened, and started seeing his aunt as a mother (and Marin grew a strong connection with her, too). Marin got psychological help (so did her brother, a bit), and she eventually managed to cope with what had happened, though it still affects her a bit (especially since Marin has quite a detailed memory), and it had a big impact on who she was as a person.Marin’s thirteenth birthday was a pretty sad occasion, as it was shortly after the storm. The present she treasured the most was a bracelet which her stepmother had bought for her before she died, and which she still wears. On the half term after the storm, her aunt took her on a skiing holiday (this was already covered, but it’s a part of her backstory so I’m still including it), it worked as a temporary distraction, and she still has fond memories of it (it helped a lot with bonding with her aunt, too). After that, her life was basically empty of mythological influence, as she didn’t know she was a demigod (with nobody there to witness her claiming) and Kymopoleia is considered a pretty minor goddess. A satyr came to her school when she was in Grade 10 (I think that’s the equivalent of Year 11 in England), she encountered some dracaenae near the end of the year, and that’s when the story starts.*At this point, Kymopoleia kind of cares for Marin, but she still has no interest in the wellbeing of other mortals.Habits:She sits with her head in one hand, which is usually in a fist (with the elbow propped up against a surface, the floor, or sometimes her knees) a lot. She’s naturally a late sleeper, which kind of annoys her as it’s not punctual at all. She’s also a really messy sleeper.Picking at her string-tie bracelets or running her finger over the star on the one she got from her stepmother. She paces a lot when she’s stressed. She tends to avoid people’s gazes directly.Other:She’s very aware and sensitive to her senses (especially touch). She’s a Ravendor. She represents the ‘mind’ of her friend/questing group.—So, if you made it to the end… congratulations.

I paid for CocoDoc Streaming Audio Recorder for my pc and it froze every 2 minutes. Even during a new installation on a different drive, it froze. Jeg skipped the usual "FREE TOOLBAR" during the installation, but It totally changed my browsersettings anyway. Nice way to make money on spam. And there is nothing wrong with my pc. It's an error in the code.
