PDF Editor FAQ

Has IIIT Allahabad lost its sheen.... i mean the packages being offered are low than previous years and companies like EPIC etc don't visit the campus ..so basically where do u see the institution going in future..

Yeah I do believe that IIITA is losing it's sheen but not because of low offers and EPIC not visiting the campus but because of students who ask such ridiculous questions....Dude you have already taken admission into this college and not yet passed out(that is why you are asking such a question)...., So why don't you better concentrate on your college life and learn whatever you want to do in life rather than diverting your mind in such baseless questions,as you have no other option now instead of sitting in placements if you want to get one.And still if you really care about the institution so much, then join the placement committee and show them where are they going wrong.....(but that you will never do :/ )My only suggestion to you is instead of worrying about college placements in IIITA, learn as much as you can and help IIITA on your part to recover that sheen and this time to new heights.

Why do so many IITians quit their campus jobs? Why aren't students selecting the right jobs? Is there a lack of understanding how to choose a job?

Let's remember that people in the IITs have very little job experience and don't really know how to judge a job. You have access to a limited set of seniors who might be candid and give you some gyaan (guidance) but a majority of the decision are based on information from reputation on campus or through PPTs, where your seniors are speaking in front of their bosses and will probably not give you the complete picture.User here has most of the important factors for choosing a job nailed down, I'm just adding the IIT perspective and Numbers 3 and 4:1. Choosing high paying jobs over jobs that offer richer learning or richer experiences :Money is probably the only objective criterion that you can compare between jobs, and more is definitely better than less. What people forget is that even the "less" in campus jobs is probably enough. The Placement Cell enforces this too; By putting high-paying jobs into the earlier slots, it effectively ensures that even if better jobs were being offered at lower pay, no good student can try for them without foregoing the high-paying jobs completely.2. Not factoring Company Culture into your decision:I can't even begin to tell you how much I think this is important now, and how little I thought about it before placements. This goes beyond the tripe that you read on the websites of these companies. It's about how people treat each other during success, during failure and even otherwise. It's about whether the company cares about your job skills and performance, or your manipulative abilities and how much you enjoy the taste of management's ass.I loved the culture at my previous job, and I thought we had a really great team of really nice people. They made my 10-month stay easy and my eventual decision to quit a lot more tougher. I'd have quit a lot earlier if the atmosphere and culture had been anything like what I hear from some of my friends at other firms. There's no way to find this out without talking candidly to ex-employees. This is something that is seriously lacking in the ridiculous parade of PPTs set up by the Placement Cell on campus.3. Not believing in what the company does :This is the reason I quit my job. I just didn't see my company as adding value to the world. While what I heard in the PPT seemed interesting, when I was actually working on live projects, I saw how colossal a waste of brain-power it was. We were getting genuinely smart people to dumb themselves down and output fluff on presentations. No matter how interesting what you are doing is, it's never going to work if you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. While this was the case with me, I've found the most popular reason is the converse of this. That is,4. Basing your decision on what the Company does, instead of what you will be doing:This was a marketing trick that I admit was very clever. Most companies will come to campus and talk to you about their mission, vision and values. They will tell you the department they are hiring you for is most critical in achieving this mission. They will tell you your job involves high-pay, travelling, partying, problem-solving and doing charity work in your spare time as part of CSR.You probably start thinking of the role as a cocktail of Stephen Hawking, James Bond, Charlie Sheen, and Mother Teresa, shaken not stirred. But if you pay attention, you will realize no one was ever really talking about what you will be doing. While this star-studded team did actually help a Fortune 500 company increase revenue from its customers, simultaneously cutting costs to 50% using their amazing problem-solving skills, the guy in your position probably solved the problem of which combination of buttons to press to get double-sided colour copies of the report and not much else. So, if you really want to make a good decision:1. Talk to your Seniors; Ones who have already quit, or are not in the recruiting team for the company would be preferred.2. Ask them for all the dirt.3. Remember that if they are in the company, and unless you have a great relationship with them, they will probably try to save face by not admitting to how bad things really are.4. Remember that most jobs will be bad in one way or the other. No one would pay you that much for a role that is actually a cocktail of Stephen Hawking, James Bond, Charlie Sheen, and Mother Teresa.5. If you're not happy, Quit. I think Prof. Deepak Malhotra from HBS said this best in his brilliant speech to the graduating class of 2012,Quit Early, Quit Often.

What does off-campus colleges of DU mean?

off-campus colleges of DU mean:Those campus which are not in North Zone neither in South Zone. So, Its apart from both that’s why its known as off campus. There's something about off-campus colleges in Delhi that are attracting more and more aspiring students. And it's a combination of factors - specialized courses, sprawling campus, developed infrastructure and well-qualified teachers - that is prompting the students to prefer off-campus colleges over the on-campus colleges. It seems that over the last few years, the rise of the off-campus colleges is taking the sheen away from the core campus. With high cut-offs, sprawling infrastructure and well-qualified teachers, these colleges have nothing to complain about.
