The “Know Thy Customer” rule is the first thing on my list in most of my training sessions.The Planning Stage:Setting Objectives - What is your your primary objective? Is it to capture leads, create brand awareness, promote a new product or service that your company is offering? List down your objectives;Budgeting - Allocate a realistic budget to everything. Do some homework, find out what other companies have done in the past and what their expenses were. Ask around and plan accordingly. Think about the items and things you can reuse in your next trade show instead of re-inventing buying new items every time;Your Set Up - Think about the kind of setup you would need for the trade show. Determine whether you would need banner stands, booth stands, interactive displays? This would also depend on what your target audience is, and what you’re offering. Other things to consider are the size of your booth and what it should look like, whether you would need brochures and flyers to distribute, and most importantly the location of your booth or stand;Marketing Material - You want to make sure that your marketing material displays a clear message of what you’re offering. It also needs to be 100% error free, otherwise you’ll leave a poor impression of your brand on your audience. An effective way of doing this is by using latest technology equipment, for example Augmented Reality harware, Virtual reality, touch screen displays etc.After The Show:Of course none of this will be useful if you’re not “building” your relationships with your potential customers. It’s equally important to stay in touch with your prospects even after the trade show. Make a list of the visitors you think showed interest in your products or services, and reach out to them via email or phone. Ask them if they enjoyed the show. You can also ask them for their feedback and suggestions, try to make friends with them instead of selling to them directly.
