PDF Editor FAQ

What are 20 achievements of Modi that separates him from other Prime Ministers?

I was waiting this question. My answers are not going to be big bang answers like demonetisation, GST or foreign policies or even start up india etc..Let me start with small things as it impacts on day to day lives which does get ignored by the general public like you and me.Railway stations and other public space having easy access for the senior citizen and divyang people. Things like escalators, slanting elevation so that wheel chair can be moved etc. It helps then who have challenges to mobility. We take this things for granted, but only in 4 years many stations have lifts, escalators to move from one platform to anotherComplaint/grievance register to log online. This has helped people log their public services grievances and get response even if it is in 2 weeks or 2 months at the click of the keyboard or phone. Earlier one had to make multiple visits to this centre and still not get good response.Digitisation of most public services. From lengthy paper work to digitised updated. India exports IT services to the world but our own public services were pathetic. Over the last 4 years there has been tremendous change like in epf , license etc. Though a long way to go but the step have been taken to simplifyClean india campaign. Education of cleanliness being taught and advertised in schools. It will take a generation or two until we see the actual results but a journey of 1000 miles is taken by first step. I see kids advising their parents about not throwing garbage on the streets etc. …. I saw a WhatsApp video where a marriage party bus or something like that threw water bottle from the bus. Gentleman stopped the bus an argument for the person to pick up the bottle from the road side. That is awareness, that is feeling of pride of the nation.Toilets in each house On one instance. I was speaking to one auto driver who has his family in remote uttar pradesh. He said government have given them 20000 each to three brothers to construct the toilet in the village. His son 5 years old was in mumbai few months back had to stand in queue sulabh souchalay in mumbai where they stay. And hence prefers to go back to his home town where he does not have to wait or go in the field.Electricity access to each household in every and remotest village if india even if the terrain were not conducive. That is commitment.Clean power. Solar is clean power. It reduces CO2 emissions into atmosphere. Big move long term vision. Committed to global warming. Not that other governments did not do it but on massive scaleUse of water transport reducing travel time as well as fuel and co2 emission.Building military base on Pacific oceans islands by taking one island on lease from the governments of fiji in Pacific oceans.Sports interests. Facilitating motivating indian sportsman before and after the event. Out is a big step. This has also helped in many inter school, at district, state and national level. It was not that it was not happening before. But this are telecasted now, they are also motivated all about the scope and varied interest . People are looking beyond cricket as career.Rehaul of education. Still long way to go but steps taken in right direction. Need atleast another two terms to see the benefit of the changeDigital lockers. Storage of your certificate on digital lockers so you don't have to carry them in original formSelf attestation of true copies. Small thing but think people used to pay those people to attest. Time taken, queue, money paid.Building infrastructure like railway , airports tunnels for strategic locations like sikkim, north east, leh laddakh etc. This reduces travel time as well as creates quick accessClean toilets at public places. You get phone numbers and email addresses which gets monitored. If you complain about unclean toilet at railway station it gets cleaned in master of few mins and feedback taken. Though I would say feedback becomes more like tracking , cleanliness should be of paramount importance. I personally experienced this at couple of railways stationsTrying to link Aadhar to driver's license. This will help track offenders in different states at one click. Long way to go but a step in the right direction. Applying for renewal online and then collect it after verifying documents when you collect them.People in distress primarily overseas gets immediate attention from MEA.Changing petrol and diesel rates at daily international rates. Thus making it independent of government control. Also loss to exchequer due to delayed rate change to oil companies.Promoting Generic medication and reducing prices on stents thus reducing price .. Of medication and hospitalisationKhadi gram udyog.. getting smaller business create income. Surge in purchase after it was advertised.Gave 20 basic things.. there are many more that can be listed.. but the question feel demanded only 20.. most of the answer will cover big things.. Like below..I just wanted to highlight things that we take for granted are getting eased up..Forget about the big things likeease of doing business,GST impact, reducing number t of taxes and bringing under one tax net this reducing pilferageDemonetization. Impacting increase in tax payers, curtailing shell companies avoiding taxConsolidation of big nationalised banksroad and railway infrastructure, bullet train, safety of railways, speed I for railways,I highways that reduce travel Time, connecting rivers which will reduce water dependency and wastage, building pond and lakes in villages to increase ground water.. Like latur district in Maharashtra most drought prone had not bought single tanker this year.foreign policies..Rafael, surgical strike, defence policies,Connecting smaller airportsCleaning big riversReducing security clearance at airportsSleeping on planes to reduce tax payer money from his foreign visitsAuctioning things that he gets as gifts and using those funds for charityTrying to bring farmers produce direct to consumersCold storage for farmers closer to keep produce freshDirect benefit into account of LPG, MNREGA, rationingJob creating through startup PM AWAS yojna, medical insurance,Agreeing to trade oil with UAE in Indian currency and dihram this saving dollar for something else.International yoga dayJadu ki zhapppi policy with his foreign counter parts.. makes signification impact in relations.Curtailling Pakistan sponsored terrorism.Doklam standoffNo terrorist attack in last 4.5 yearsNo corruption in defense dealsThe abovet does not impact common man as much on daily basis. But it does have its benefitsThis list can go on and on..thanks to the avid readers and comments , suggestions of policiesAadhar is very useful in finding lost children and adultsAyushman Bharat - Healthy living for allInsurance for train travel.the most important is control on inflation. Any one can do all of above but to do it while keeping check on prices is truly commendable.Loans for small entrepreneurs running business from home. This adds to the tax as well creating jobs. It might still be informal sector until it gets the light. be it Selling Pakodas, Tea stall, stitching, sculpting, painting, handmade toys etc for the rural income to grow. ——— This was created as a joke by the Congress.. that educated should start selling pakodas as they not getting jobs.. ……. In my opinion no job is small or big as long as it brings in money to run the household. When a IIM passed post graduate makes a business of lunch business in Bangalore… delivery at work .. it becomes a tell tale in the MBA case studies… then why not this…. The IIM Graduate just took the Mumbai Dabbawala model and gave it a technology twist with his knowledge.

Was Atal Bihari Vajpayee's political work good, bad, or a little bit of both for India?

An astute politician, Mr Vajpayee mentored the 1998 nuclear tests in Rajasthan's Pokhran, which led to sanctions against India by countries including the US and Japan.‘Good governance’ as a concept is now widely accepted by the international organisations, countries and intelligentsia. The poet-politician, the man who made India a declared nuclear state and almost went to war with Pakistan before making a dramatic gesture for peace.Nehru described the young Vajpayee as a 'bright prospect'.Mr Vajpayee, however, was the only voice in his party who called it the "worst miscalculation" when Hindu mobs razed the mosque in 1992.The party came to the spotlight with the "Ram Janmabhoomi movement" for a temple at the site of a 16th century mosque in Ayodhya that many Hindus believe was built on the birthplace of Lord Ram.He also believed in grand gestures for peace. He rode the newly inaugurated bus service between Delhi and Lahore and hosted the Agra summit, despite the wounds of the Kargil conflict with Pakistan. Before NDA government came to power, the performance of our country on the scales of governance was very poor and according to Sarwar Lateef (one of the chief authors of World Bank report ‘Government and Development’)Measures related to economic growth:Of the many ambitious infrastructure projects launched in the history of nation, Vapayee’s Rs. 54,000 crore National Highway Development Project is considered to be path breaking. Its fruits are now becoming clear. Many interdependent factors associated with roads have benefitted from this project immensely. On similar lines of infrastructure development, Rs. 60,000 crore Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was also launched. In railway sector, Rs. 17,000 crore special railway safety fund was formed and Rs. 15,000 crore National Rail Vikas Yojana was also initiated.Significant growth and improvement in our port and airport infrastructure.New measures were taken in information and technology sector which led to its immense and unprecedented growth. The corporatisation of telecom services was done and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was formed since October 1, 2000 by the Government. The telephone customers were benefited by the proposed structural change to corporatisation.Realising the importance of research and development the Vajpayee government also increased allocation to this sector manifold.Government accorded Export House Status to Tourism. With this, Tourism and Travel Industry had the benefit of special import licence, waiver of bank guarantee for exports, exemption of Income-Tax for reinvestment in tourism projects. The Department of Tourism was clubbed with the Department of Culture to ensure coordinated approach for the promotion of tourism and projection of rich Indian heritage and culture. Due to these steps there was phenomenal rise in exports and forex reserves. Foreign exchange reserves increased from $32.4 billion in 1998-99 to $113 billion in 2003-04. In other words, India’s foreign exchange reserves quadrupled during the tenure of the NDA Government. In the field of employment generation also government did a commendable job. The Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana with an annual outlay of Rs. 10,000 crore, half of it in the form of free foodgrains to States, is the largest food-for-work programme in the world. The Swarna Jayanti Swarozgar Yojana and other initiatives to provide micro-credit have unleashed a silent Self Help Group (SHG) revolution in the country.Other than these some other achievements were: impressive strides made in pharmaceuticals and bio-technology; the many successful initiatives to achieve energy security; and the bold and transparent steps to implement the policy of disinvestment. With sustained growth in GDP, the ratio of external debt to GDP was brought down from 23.61% in 1998-99 to 20.81% in 2001-02. The external debt service to current receipts ratio declined from 18.9% in 1998-99 to 14.1% in 2001-02. The growth rate registered in 2003-04, the last year of the NDA regime, was an impressive 8.5%.Measures in social sector:The Government’s took the initiative to bring suitable legislation to extend social security net to 37 Crore workers in the unorganized sector was a laudable and much needed step.Examples in the area of social development include the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, which is the world’s largest food security programme for the poor; Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the related Constitutional Amendment to make elementary education a Fundamental Right; the unprecedented growth in housing construction through Valmiki Ambedkear Awas Yojna, and Swajaldhara and Hariyali programmes for drinking water and water conversation. The NDA Government took major initiatives to benefit agriculture, rural industries and small scale enterprises, as is evident from the Kisan Credit Card scheme, consistent increases in minimum support prices, the steady expansion in the activities of the KVIC, and the special credit package to the SSI sector. NDA was the first government to create a separate ministry for rural industries. It goes to the credit of the NDA Government that it has kept the prices of essential commodities in check during its tenure.NDA government took bold steps to redeem its commitment to social justice. One of its first decisions was to rename the Ministry of Social Welfare as the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It was also the first Government to create a separate ministry for the development of tribals.Vajpayee led NDA Government had ushered in several of intiatives like Bhagyashri, Rajrajshwari, Swayamsidha to make Indian Women self – reliant with self respect. Further first time since independence, the caring NDA Government provided with a net of social security schemes for senior citizens, benefiting eight Crore people.Janashree Bima Yojana for the poor: A new group insurance scheme Janashree Bima Yojana was launched to benefit the people below poverty line as well as those marginally above the poverty line.Composite Regional Centres for persons with disabilities: Five Composite Regional Research Centres were set up in different parts of the country for providing services to persons with disabilities.Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana was launched to make potable drinking water available in all habitations in the country. In order to institutionalise community participation in rural water supply programmes, projects were to be made community based.Shelter for all under Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana: A new initiative of ‘Rural Housing’ was undertaken under Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana to achieve the objective of sustainable human development at village level. An allocation of Rs.1710 crores was made for 2000-2001 to implement the Action Plan, which had the objective of conversion of all unserviceable kutcha houses to pucca/semi-pucca houses by the end of Tenth Plan. The quantity of foodgrains being distributed to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) section of the population under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) was doubled from 10 kg. per family per month to 20 kg. per family per month at 50 percent of the economic cost. The scheme, with its focus on the poor, benefited about 33 crore people belonging to the poorer section of the society.Measures related to security:It was during NDA government under the able leadership of A.B. Vajpayee that India was made a nuclear weapons state fulfilling the longstanding aspiration of our people. It helped in immunising our country against nuclear blackmail by any hostile power. Not only that, the deft and courageous manner in which the NDA Government managed the post-Pokharan scenario needs recognition and appreciation. In our foreign relations, we can see clear imprint of diplomatic deftness of Vajpayee. Our relations were improved with USA and both leaders of respective nation paid visit to each other’s country to strengthen ties. Declaration of strategic partnership with Russia during Putin’s visit to India was also a significant step in this direction. Our constant engagement with international community also ensured that they too understood the reasons of regional instability and growth of terrorism. Pakistan and Afghanistan were recognised as its breeding grounds and it helped in putting pressure on them.It was on the personal initiative of Vajpayee that we tried to mend our relations with our neighbours. In case of Pakistan, the PM went an extra mile and concluded historic Bus Yatra to Lahore demonstrating our genuine search for peace with Pakistan. However, we also showed our leadership’s ability and readiness to teach a bitter lesson to the aggressor during Kargil war.One of the major achievements of NDA government was fulfilling the solemn promise made by the Prime Minister on August 15, 2001 and holding free and fair elections to the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly in October. For the first time, a separate ministry for the all-round development of the North-Eastern States was created. The successful conclusion of a peace agreement with the Bodo Liberation Tigres and the optimistic direction in which talks for peace in Nagaland were some of the highlights in maintaining peace in the region.Measures related to democratic functioning of country:NDA government put an end to politics of destability by forming a grand coalition and running the same successfully by making the alliance stronger and more cohesive. The nation was spared from the burden of constant elections and its humongous costs.NDA government fulfilled its election promise of creating Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttaranchal as separate States, meeting the longstanding aspirations of the people of these regions. This was accomplished in a smooth and peaceful manner.Never in recent decades have Centre-State relations been as harmonious as during the NDA rule. Never the in the past had a Prime Minister so frequently consulted Chief Ministers and leaders of the Opposition parties on matters of national importance.Free and fair elections conducted in Jammu and Kashmir. The recent decision of NDA government to confer Atal Bihari Vajpayee with Bharat Ratna and to celebrate his birthday as Good Governance Day is in right direction of recognising his efforts for the development of the country. Now you decide how is he?

What is the algorithm used to reserve tickets in Indian Railways? How are seats allocated based on group bookings, and how do RAC and waiting seats get confirmed?

Indian Railways ticketing system is an online transactional processing system (abbreviated as OLTP). Though I haven't read anything official on the algorithm used by Ticketing system, the problem is essentially a resource allocation problem. If you are from Computer Science background, you might know the concepts of locking a resource while it's allocation is being requested. This way, when a request for booking a ticket comes, the system checks if there are any tickets available (read from db and then maintained in a shared variable). If the count is greater than zero, the algorithm takes a write lock on count variable, do the steps to register a ticket, decrements the count and releases the lock. Since our ticketing system is at such a large scale, the allocation might be happening from distributed locations. The concept of locking exist in distributed systems also although because of the nature of entire system composed of smaller systems present in distributed locations, the method of acquiring locks is not that straightforward and highly technical.
