PDF Editor FAQ

What is something that people never do correctly?

“Hey Ketan, I have just rescued a baby bird from my back yard. Can you please help me with it?”Oh!!! I always pray that they have not made the mistake which most people commit. But sadly, most of the time, they also fall into the same trap.So what is that trap, which makes many people do a very horrible thing? (Of Course! Unintentionally)Well, If you ever see this in your backyard or in your apartments:A juvenile (young) bird trying to fly but finding it hard to do so.Now, out of humanity, you might pick up the bird, and try to help it by relocating it on a tree or taking it inside your home. But let me tell you one thing, this noble gesture of yours is actually risking the life of that young bird. As a matter of fact, you are committing a deadly sin.Now you will ask, “But how?”The answer to the question is ‘Fledging’. So what does it mean?Well, when hatchlings of a bird grow and build strong muscle and feathers on wings, they try to leave the nest. But they are not adjusted to flying, thus they sometimes fly and sometimes fumble. Thus, they fall on the ground, where they again try to fly.The parents of the bird watch them from a distance and take care of their baby’s feed. This whole process is called, “Fledging”, which is the most delicate time for a bird, and picking it up or disturbing it, might risk their lives. Also, the parent birds might feel that you have either killed or eaten them. Thus, sometimes they might leave the place. So here is what you should:Whenever you see a young bird, just watch them from a distance and enjoy how they practice becoming an ace flyer.Remember, Nature doesn’t need your help every time, but it sure expects from you to show intellect and patience.NOTE:The above suggestion is only for juvenile birds. If you ever see an adult bird or a very young hatchling, which don’t even have feathers, do try to help them.

How smart are hawks?

I’m afraid Viral Bhatt is very incorrect. And obviously has never had anything to do with hawks.Hawks are as dumb as a box of rocks. Not as stupid as owls, but definitely down in “special class” territory. The fact that they are fantastic predators is due entirely to the fact that most of their behavior is hard-wired, and only needs practice to hone it into lethality, practice that they get while simultaneously being fed by their parents. Because so much of their brain is devoted to the visual cortex and the rest to hard-wired hunting instincts there is very little room left for actual intelligence.Starlings are 10 times smarter than hawks, just to put it into perspective. And crows are 100 times smarter than hawks. Ravens look at hawks with pity.Edit: Yes I know about this. In February 2005, the Canadian scientist Dr Louis Lefebvre announced a method of measuring avian IQ in terms of their innovation in feeding habits. Hawks were named among the most intelligent birds based on this scale. That’s total bullshit. This moron completely skewed all his tests by counting “visual acuity” and “hunting ability” as intelligence, which they are not. As I have said many times before, hunting behavior is hard-wired instinct, not learned behavior. If it was not, rehabbers would never be able to teach young birds how to hunt, because we literally could not show them how to hunt. That is not, and never will be, intelligence. Intelligence means flexibility. Raptors are among the most inflexible of birds. It takes a long time to teach them to work with a falconer; parrots can learn several tricks in the time it takes a raptor to learn how to come to a falconer on a signal. Seriously, think about it. If you hand-raise a crow, and he escapes, he will always come back to you because he knows you are where the food is. If you hand raise a hawk, and he escapes, he will never come back to you, because he’s too dumb to realize you are the better option. In my opinion, this jackass Lebevre made up bullshit “tests” in order to get a publishable paper to maintain his credentials. I don’t know of any actual raptor expert who cites this paper.Furthermore, if you apply this “system” to sea creatures, you get “sharks are some of the most intelligent sea animals” and that’s an absurdity anyone can see.

What I have just been, was it enlightenment?

Either this question is entirely vague, or you created a Zen Koan, or you are a master of abstraction!Let me tell a story:There was a wise old Indian chief. He was very respected for his wisdom. In the tradition of his tribe, if anyone could prove him wrong, they would take over his position as chief of the tribe. Now, there was this young brave, a bit rebellious, a tad arrogant and extremely power hungry. He concocted a scheme by which he would overthrow the chief and take over the tribe. He caught a baby bird. His plan was to keep it in his hands, completely covered, then, in front of everyone, he would ask the chief, “Is this bird dead or alive?”If the chief said “Dead,” he would open his hands and let it fly out. If the chief said, “Alive,” he would squash the bird showing that it was dead.It was a foolproof plan. That night as everyone sat around the fire singing songs and telling stories, the young brave stood up and approached the chief in front of the tribe with his hands cupped around the bird.“Oh wise one, leader of our tribe, tell me, is the bird in my hand dead or alive?”The chief looked up with eyes gleaming with the wisdom of many years…“It all depends on you my son, it all depends on YOU.”So, don’t worry about what you have just been. What are you now? Are you still enlightened?I hope.b
