PDF Editor FAQ

Isn't it a bit sexist to have women's studies and not men's studies?

A woman’s studies professor will answer this by telling you that if you want to get an education that focuses on men’s issues and achievements to the exclusion of all other groups you can simply get a normal education. They’re there to provide an alternative view. This was probably true when these departments were founded. Now even though women dominate secondary education, even though universities are some of the most progressive places on the planet, and university professors are overwhelmingly progressive in ther politics, with their curricula reflecting this, feminist academics will tell you that if you step outside their department these same places are actually beacons of pro-male sexism and eurocentric bias that systemically exclude women’s and minority issues and achievements from their curricula - because patriarchy I guess - and that women’s studies must exists to balance things out. What a pile of unadulterated manure. If this were the case why not just fix the universities themselves? Is feminism so feeble as an organisation that their only solution to a supposedly broken, bias education system is this pathetic band-aid solution? Obviously not. There actually hasn’t been anything to fix for decades now. In fact education has a pro-female slant overall nowadays. The outcomes, that is the facts, speak for themselves. The admission rates. The extra-curricula programs. The availability of scholarships and other assistance. All betray this bias. Even the test scores required to gain entrance in many cases are dependant on your skin colour and genitals, with white and Asian men having to out-perform all other groups to achieve the same result.Boys and men are falling behind badly as a result and have been for some time, and nobody gives a flying fuck. Many of us haven’t the slightest interest in universities because we know we’re not wanted. At my local university for example, if I ever somehow managed to qualify and afford to attend, I’d be sent to lectures to teach me to ‘unpack my male privilege.’ Because despite being a disabled rape survivor who lives in the ‘murder capitol,’ of the country and has spent his life in grinding poverty I have the audacity to have a penis, which apparently makes me more privileged than a bunch of rich WASPy girls from Double Bay. Because patriarchy I guess. But then this is the same ‘World Class,’ university that actually offers acupuncture as part of their medical program. A dangerous form of pseudo-science that can’t even be dignified with the description ‘placebo,’ because it actually injures and even kills people every year. Thank you, leftists, thanks, cultural relativism! My local GP thinks this quackery can cure my depression. Probably because someone gave him a free pen. What’s next, voodoo? In truth these departments now exist for the same reason, and the same purpose as religious ‘schools.’ Their proponents think it’s unfair that their values aren’t being taught as self-evident facts in an education system that’s supposed to focus on empiricism, actual evidence and logic. That’s supposed to focus on imparting knowledge and teaching people how to think rather than telling them what to think. They see this as a form of prejudice against them. Think of the way some conservatives endlessly complain about the ‘liberal bias,’ of any media platform that doesn’t preach conservative values. All of these groups seek to establish ‘alternatives,’ in which empiricism and logic are tossed on the trash-pile in favour of promoting their ideals and values. Most of them succeed in one way or another. Not that it matters.Universities aren’t even the half of it. We start teaching people what to think in primary school these days. The best thing we can do is abolish laws mandating compulsory schooling, completely abolish state-funded education, and privatise the entire system. I say this as someone who loathes privatisation by the way.

Why are Indian doctors running after specialisations so badly? What are the cons of not getting an MD? Isn't that narrowing down your knowledge?

The 5.5 years MBBS course in my opinion is woefully inadequate to start independent private practice.Doing few weeks of rotation in medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics during internship does not prepare you to handle the real world. The textbook knowledge we gain during MBBS is like the ether, it evaporates soon. Also many times we have the theoretical knowledge but are unaware of how to apply it to real life scenario. Therefore there is a need to undergo more training to gain confidence and consolidate our knowledge. This can only be obtained by pursuing further residency. There is a joke, “as an intern you work at a paraspinal level, as a resident at spinal level and as a consultant at the cortical level”.In most countries like USA, UK and Australia, MBBS is not enough to start independent work as a doctor. Residency is mandatory to get full registration to practise independently. These countries have residency in Family Medicine and General Practice (GP), and they are quite popular among the local grads, especially GP in UK, due to better pay and lifestyle. These residencies usually are for 3 years period and is an extension of clinical subjects learnt in MBBS and prepare you to practise as a general practitioner.Even in India there is PG course (DNB) in family Medicine started by the National Board of Examination (NBE). This course has not been very popular. The fault lies in our medical education system, the government, public perception and doctors. Any country should have the right balance of specialist and family physicians. A patient needs to be first seen by a local GP before referral to a specialist. This happens in countries like UK which have universal health care coverage under the NHS. This will also reduce the burden on tertiary health care system and the need for people to travel long distances. The follow-up care can be done by the GP after being seen by a specialist. Our government needs to incentivise general practice. More PG seats in Family Medicine residency need to be created. Doing bridge course and turning RMP, and ayurvedic doctors in to allopathic doctors is not the solution. The same argument holds true for people who do the bridge course, it is insufficient to practise in the real world.

How similar is Canada to the United States in quality of life and expenses?

Canada and the US are more different than you would think. They are also a lot more similar than we realise.Gun violence is not as common in Canada in general; the incidents that are reported seem to be localised to certain areas and groups in big cities. The thing that bothers citydwellers most is coyotes in urban parks (and racoons getting into our garbage).Gas is about 30% more expensive North of the border (and your weekly shopping cart too). Cost of living is climbing so much young people get into relationships just so they can live together and share the rent.Average price of a single home in major Canadian cities like Toronto, Mississauga and Vancouver is close to a million dollars. Go figure. The government has a new scheme for first time homebuyers where they will front part of the initial down payment so that's a start. However this scheme will not work in the major cities, so you many still need to look in the small towns (with a big commute) if you are making your first home purchase.Quality of life is consistently high across provinces and cities across Canada. In the US it varies considerably and there are some areas in cities south of the border I would not visit after dark.I've driven across Canada and I find consistent quality of schools, safe, well maintained neighbourhoods and friendly people (people do tend to bond more closely in their own communities and ethnic groups though). Overall it's as close to utopia as one can find on earth and while it's not perfect yet, we're working on it every day.Schools are safer. The worst stuff our high school kids get up to is vaping and marijuana. Which I do not condone btw, just saying it's different than going into school with a gun. Most of the kids are busy getting a trade, skill or education so they are kept too busy to get into trouble.Public Healthcare is free in Canada (funded through taxpayer dollars of course) and it provides peace of mind. Watch out for wait times running into months when you don't need an emergency procedure. *Canadian hospitals prioritize the severity of cases. If you need immediate medical attention or surgery, you get it* You might to wait 6–8 hours in an emergency room at Mississauga or Calgary (if it's not a life threatening emergency) Seeing a GP in a walk-in clinic is easier though. I know families with 3–5 kids who had to buy private healthcare in the US couldn't afford it and moved to Canada.Car insurance is really expensive in Canada. However due to the DCPD coverage in most provinces you don't need to sue and your own insurer always covers you with great accident benefits too. However nowadays the younger generations are increasingly choosing not to drive and take an uber or transit instead. Just like no one watches cable anymore Or buys a CD. It's all pay as you go/rent what you need.Recently, Canada is better at Basketball (Go Raps!) and Women's Tennis ( Go Bianca!) and even though we virtually invented ice hockey the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't won the Stanley cup for what feels like a lifetime. The Montreal Canadiens won it last over 25 years ago. But maybe this is the year?!Canada is 1/10 the size of the US in terms of population and GDP but I believe there used to be more stable careers here because of the presence of very powerful trade unions. Now with the economy changing and many non-unionised jobs proliferating, careers have transitioned into the Gig economy, both sides of the border. Sometimes people work 2 jobs and drive an uber, perhaps list their home on Air BnB and make a few bucks there. That said, Canada's a great place to start a business thats not too heavy on manpower (though if you need to, you will get the best human resources for your dollar compared to anywhere in the world) . Why work for anyone else when you can be your own boss?!Many successful Canadians move to LA or NY to broaden their scope once they reach a certain level. Not just popular recording artistes and hockey players but even professionals in various fields have a larger market for their talents. No hard feelings though. The countries have a high level of mutual understanding and respect. In fact several people who moved south are now coming back to settle down. Both Canadians and Americans get along with their neighbours really well. Some politicians will try mess up this amazing relationship but eventually we need each other. There are many business, working and visa programs designed to help the two countries collaborate on a range of things which stand as a testimony to this statement. Thanks for reading, upvoting and sharing.Edit: We are open to others points of view. Comments from Our Customers

I bought CocoDoc's Recoverit program to retrieve some accidentally deleted-from-trash files on my MacBook Air machine. But unfortunately, this software was not compatible with my machine's Swedish character keyboard. I alerted CocoDoc's customer service desk, provided 2 screen grabs to illustrate the issue.... and boom, a full refund was issued to me, and arrived in my bank account within one week. Zoe from their customer service desk rocks !! Everybody's product is cool when it works, but when it doesn't.... that's when you find out how much a customer really matters to the vendor involved. Based on this single experience with CocoDoc, I would give them very high marks in this dept.
