Is Black Lives Matter a Marxist organization?

I have a feeling that this question might receive some unwarranted flak from moderation. Still, it needs to be addressed seriously because it has broader implications than it seems like. Thus, I am gonna address this question even though it(the question) might get deleted by the moderation or even by the person who asked it in the first place.BLM is never a Marxist movement. It never was, it never will be.I see a common rhetorical trend among US conservatives (and US liberals for that matter) which has two principal components —An axiomatic belief that communism is bad, without any objective knowledge or firsthand experience with Communism(Marxism)Stemming from that, comes the second part of their rhetoric—‘I don’t like the talking point XYZ, thus it is communism (Marxism)’Honestly, the cold-war generation has ingrained (indoctrinated into) in their minds, two hyperbolic yet fallacious talking points, such as:XYZ is communism, thus it is badXYZ is so bad, it must be communismBefore you call me a communist/Marxist (which, of course — is not a slur)- let me give you a funny little factoid.Unlike US conservatives, I actually voted out an actual Marxist communist party (CPIM) out of the office in the historic West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Elections of 2011[1] , which brought an end to a 34 year long communist regime.I have my share of discontent and disagreements with Marxist policies.Yes. P-O-L-I-C-I-E-S.Unlike most conservatives (and liberals), when I criticize the communist establishments, I precisely know what I am talking about. I am not making circular arguments like ‘Communism is bad because it is bad’. I knowThe consequence of over-unionizing[2]The consequence of putting ideology before pragmatismThe consequence of resisting technological progress[3]The regression that stems from resisting most forms of societal changeThe rise of ‘middle-men’ in a typical ‘collectivistic economic framework’At the same time,I can’t possibly deny the exceptional grassroot level altruistic work done by Marxists in my state,I can’t possibly deny the existence of initiatives to feed underprivileged children from rural areas led predominantly by Marxists,I can’t possibly deny the amazing post-natural disaster responses exhibited by them time after timeImage— Senior CPIM (Marxist) leaders Sujan Chakraborty and Biman Basu participating in a post-Amphan[4] (A disastrous category 5 super-cyclone which recently hit my home state pretty hard) relief shelterAlright, I admit that I digressed. Also, I probably alienated a lot of people from both sides of the aisle.Let me explore BLM now.According to their official[5] website—We are guided by the fact that all Black lives matter, regardless of actual or perceived sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, economic status, ability, disability, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, immigration status, or location.Ideologically, this is antithetical to the core principles of Marxism, on multiple fronts. On the surface it ignores ‘economic status’ of black people. Right there, it becomes staunchly non-Marxist (rather anti-Marxist if you ask me). You can not ignore class, and still expect that ideology to be classified as a Marxist construct. Marxism is extremely class-sensitive.Similarly, Marxism explicitly announces[6] —“The emancipation of the workers must be the task of the workers themselves”, whereas BLM does not have any problem associating with powerful black millionaires like Robert Johnson[7]. There’s literally no significant ideological correlation/intersection whatsoever.Additionally, corporate establishments have been vehemently pro-BLM for the past few weeks. It is extremely uncharacteristic for any organization that is within the shouting distance of Marxism to have this kind of support from corporate entities. To summarize —You or I can disagree with BLM for reasons A, B and CYou or I can also disagree with Marxism for reasons D, E and FBut, these two facts do not ideologically align BLM and Marxism. No way.Footnotes[1] 2011 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election - Wikipedia[2] Unions hold Bengal industry hostage | Kolkata News - Times of India[3] THE LARGER GAMEPLAN[4] Cyclone Amphan - Wikipedia[5] Page on blacklivesmatter.com[6] The Basic Principles of Marxism[7] BET founder Robert Johnson urges Black Lives Matter to form its own independent political party

Why is Venom considered evil, and why did he fight against Spider-Man? I've only seen the movie.

Man, what a weird time we live in when Venom could become more famous for his appearance in the movie than in his original appearance. Don’t get me wrong, I like what the movie did with Venom as a standalone character, I just didn’t think we’d ever be in a spot like this. The original story from the comics is that Spider-Man found the Venom symbiote during the events of the crossover Secret Wars, wherein he uses an alien device to dispense a bunch of goo that replaces his damaged costume with a new, sleek, black one. It gives him self-refilling organic web shooters, it occasionally acts reflexively to protect Peter with tendrils of goo, and it can morph into different outfits and disguises depending on his needs. However, he later discovers that this alien suit is in fact a sentient organism that’s been influencing him to become more aggressive — and that it won’t leave. To remove it he has to exploit its weakness to high-frequency sonic vibrations, basically forcing it to leave. It eventually finds Eddie Brock, a reporter whose career was ruined when Spider-Man exposed a faulty story he wrote about a serial killer, then takes him as a host in Spider-Man’s place. Since the two of them both harbor so much resentment towards Spider-Man, they take on the name “Venom,” and the symbiote clothes Brock in a gruesome mirror image of Spider-Man’s black costume. The symbiote could still replicate all the powers that Peter Parker had as Spider-Man, web shooters and wall-crawling included, and fueled by Brock’s anger it abandoned all inhibitions, taking on hugely enhanced strength, clawed hands, and its iconic grin of razor-sharp teeth. More frighteningly still, Venom has all of Peter’s memories, and thus is aware of his secret identity, the names and addresses of all his loved ones, and various insights into how Peter thinks and behaves. As if that weren’t enough, the symbiote was now able to mask itself from Peter’s Spider-Sense, making Venom the only creature who could consistently get the drop on him. Thus, the revenge-crazed Venom became Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis, an embodiment of the collateral damage that he could unwittingly do to peoples’ lives and a dark reflection of the web-slinger himself all in one. Underneath it all, though, Brock was still more or less a well-meaning person, if hot-headed and quick to anger. The alien’s influence made him positively demented, Hell-bent on exacting any revenge he could against Spider-Man, but eventually after a number of altercations the two of them form an uneasy truce with the rise of Carnage — a symbiote supervillain consisting of Venom’s own spawned offspring combined with serial killer Cletus Kasady. However brutal Venom could be, Carnage was so much worse, and Venom felt a responsibility to apprehend and destroy him. After this storyline Spider-Man and Venom agree to leave each other alone and go their separate ways, with Brock moving to San Francisco and kicking off his career as a vigilante with his own spinoff series: Venom: Lethal Protector. The storyline in these comics involves the Life Foundation creating a number of forced spawn from Venom, creating a whole gaggle of symbiotes for them to worry about. This includes the symbiote Riot, as well as Scream, Phage, Lasher, and Agony. So, initially Venom was a villain, but his better nature eventually won out and led him to become more what you’d call an anti-hero. Since that time the symbiote has been variously tampered with or changed hosts, causing it to relapse into predatory, villainous behavior, but under Brock it tends to prefer something skewing closer to being a good guy. Still, it’d be more accurate to call it Chaotic Neutral than it would be to call it evil. The 2018 Venom film starring Tom Hardy is more so based on the Lethal Protector storyline than it is on the above origin story with Spider-Man, eschewing Secret Wars and the black spider-suit arc in favor of shortcutting straight to the Life Foundation experimenting with symbiotes. This creates an origin story that’s more reflective of Venom’s current state as a standalone character, as he hasn’t really been Spider-Man’s nemesis — well, not full-time, anyway — for about 25 years and counting at this point. If I may say so, I like the characterization of movie Venom quite a lot more, as the symbiote having a distinct personality and voice from Brock lends itself to much more interesting interactions between the two of them. There’s quite a lot less of that in the comics; rather, Venom’s personality is always experienced as a gestalt of Brock and the symbiote at nearly all times, and when Brock speaks he speaks for both of them. It’s unsettling, but it’s also a lot more opaque. Still, you can consider the movie to be fairly true to mid-late 90’s Venom in spirit.

What are the 3 stages of trauma recovery? How do you recover from trauma?

Professor Judith Herman’s 3 stage model for supporting trauma recovery :‘Trauma destroys the social systems of care, protection, and meaning that support human life. The recovery process requires the reconstruction of these systems. The essential features of psychological trauma are disempowerment and disconnection from others. The recovery process therefore is based upon empowerment of the survivor and restoration of relationships. The recovery process may be conceptualized in three stages: establishing safety, retelling the story of the traumatic event, and reconnecting with others. Treatment of posttraumatic disorders must be appropriate to the survivor's stage of recovery. Caregivers require a strong professional support system to manage the psychological consequences of working with survivors’Recovery from psychological trauma (This paper is worth reading)(I included Janina Fisher’s (Ph D) adaptation of the above paper in the following summary)Safety and Stabilization :Overcoming cognitive, emotional and behavioural dysregulation. This involves some understanding of the effects of the trauma including the confusion, distorted thinking patterns, crying, body stress which causes functional changes and sensations, out of character and impulsive behaviour. It is necessary to establish bodily safety to avoid self injury, regulation of bodily functions such as sleep, eating, and exercise and avoidance of substance misuse, a place of safety - somewhere to live, a job, regular income, supportive, non abusive relationships, (social obstacles to recovery need to be identified and addressed), emotional safety — ability to regulate emotions, self soothe, regulate impulses and symptoms of post traumatic stress which may be triggered by ordinary events. The goal is to be able to live in the present remembering the trauma without being triggered.Remembrance and mourning (coming to terms with traumatic memories - retelling the story) :Overcoming the fear of traumatic memories, realising how the trauma has affected you as a person, grieving, verbalising the memories and processing them while using mind body therapies such as EMDR, trauma focussed CBT, diaphragmatic breathing. This needs to be done carefully lead by the client at a pace that s/he can manage so that she does not become overwhelmed by memories /flashbacks but also doesn't become stuck in avoidance of facing the past. The process is complicated by memory gaps, uncertainty and ambiguity (due to incomplete knowledge) and continues to some extent into the future.Reconnection with ordinary life (Integration and moving forward) :Reducing shame and alienation, developing a capacity for healthy attachment, taking up personal and professional goals that create meaning.Overcoming fear of normal daily life, healthy challenges, change and intimacy become the focus of self work and therapy. There is progress with self healing, living and functioning in the present becomes easier, the trauma no longer impacts daily life but is part of an integrated understanding of self. The person starts to build new and healthy relationships. The brain ‘rewires' in a healthy way and new memories are formed.A significant minority of ‘trauma survivors’ are called to social action and engagement with the wider world and will publicly tell their story for the greater good.Recovery from trauma requires the help of a psychotherapist.
