This supposed "quote" seems to be one of many fake quotes attributed to Einstein in which he supposedly says mystical or spiritual things which do not fit with what we know about his beliefs. There are variant forms of this "quote" on the internet, but the most common one found seems to derive from a book called Planetary Survival Manual: A Guide to Living in a World of Diminishing Resources by Matthew Stein (2000). Stein does not give a source for this "quote".The origin seems to actually be Metaphoric Mind: A Celebration of Creative Consciousness by Bob Samples (1976):"Albert Einstein called the intuitive or metaphoric mind a sacred gift. He added that the rational mind was a faithful servant. It is paradoxical that in the context of modern life we have begun to worship the servant and defile the divine." (p. 26)Only the first part is what Samples claims is from Einstein, though he gives no source or citation and it fits with nothing that is recorded of Einstein's quotes. The second part is Samples' own observation. The two parts have been conflated into a "quote" of Einstein, when there is actually no evidence he said the first part and the second isn't even attributed to him in the original source.This "quote" is fake.

An independent claim is the broadest claim. Each dependent claim refers to an independent claim and includes all of its features, and then adds further detail to the independent claim.Each dependent claim is narrower than the independent claim from which it depends, because it includes all of the features from the independent claim plus something else.[1] In theory, you could rewrite a dependent claim to include all of the features of the independent claim as well as the features of the dependent claim, and it would have identical scope.Usually, you can figure out whether a claim is independent or dependent by checking to see whether it refers to another claim.Let's take a look at some sample claims to see what I'm talking about:1. A method comprising steps A, B, and C.2. The method of Claim 1, further comprising step D.3. The method of Claim 2, further comprising step E.4. The method of Claim 1, further comprising step F.5. A method comprising steps A, B, and G.6. The method of Claim 5, further comprising step C.Because Claims 1 and 5 don't refer to any other claims, they are the independent claims. Claims 2, 3, and 4 depend either directly or indirectly from Claim 1. Claim 6 depends from Claim 5.Also, let's look at the scope of each claim. If you wrote each one out in independent form, you'd get:1. A method comprising steps A, B, and C.2. A method comprising steps A, B, C, and D.3. A method comprising steps A, B, C, D, and E. (don't forget, it includes the features of Claim 2 as well as Claim 1)4. A method comprising steps A, B, C, and F. (don't forget, it depends from Claim 1, not Claim 2 or 3)5. A method comprising steps A, B, and G.6. A method comprising steps A, B, G, and C.There's a variety of significances of dependent claims: They provide fall-back positions when arguing invalidity (a broad independent claim might be invalid, but a narrower dependent claim might still be valid). They can serve to broaden the independent claim due to the doctrine of claim differentiation (If Claim 2 includes step D, then Claim 1 must cover methods that both have and don't have step D). They can help strengthen infringement arguments in front of a jury ("the defendant infringed 20 separate patent claims!"). And, surely, other reasons that don't as quickly come to mind.--------------------[1] Patent attorneys use the archaic version of "depend," which is similar in meaning to "hang." So, when they talk about dependent claims, they'll talk about which claim they depend "from," as opposed to depend "on."

The most reliable sources of data, having been compiled for years, are the "all payor" datasets of the National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS) and the datasets of Medicare, which is limited to Medicare reimbursed procedures for the over 65 population. The NHDS data is survey-based, being derived from about a 20% sampling of the discharges from U.S. hospitals; the data is "all payor" because it is not limited to any third party payor type. The Medicare data is claims-based, being derived from the actual claims forms for all Medicare (>65) patients. The CDC also provides data on outpatient/ambulatory procedures through the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS).
