Construct a story that matches the structure of what you are explaining and then point back to it as you go through each point you are making.4. Oversimplify in the BeginningOversimplifying is required so that students can start to understand things without becoming overwhelmed. Oversimplifying also helps because it forces you to prioritize the information and eliminate what is less important at the beginning. You can fill in the gaps later once the students have more room available in their RAM (working memory) to assimilate that information.9. Give early WinsThis goes hand in hand with preventing overwhelm and stress. Stress causes a biological effect on the body in the form of the release of the stress hormone cortisol. Get this stuff flowing through your blood stream and it feels like when your computer is lagging because you have too many applications running and you feel like you can't get anything done. In the beginning students should get early, easy wins, and more wins than losses. Structure your presentation so that they can apply your information quickly and easily and get some positive feedback so they stay motivated to learn the rest of what you have to say.
