Fuel stations in TN will not accept debit or credit card for payment from tomorrow.Just received this message :Message sent by Oil companies to the Bank Heads of SBI and HDFC:*Quote:We have received a circular sent by HDFC Bank to PSU Petroleum Dealers stating that MDR will charged on fuel transaction effective 9.1.17. Copy enclosed for ready reference.The matter was discussed with PSU Oil marketing Companies(OMC) and OMC is of the view that MDR was not levied on Petroleum Dealers for transaction thru Credit card and Debit card, so far. The unilateral implementation of MDR by banks with such short notice will be disruptive as the Petroleum dealers will not be able to absorb this additional cost as their margin has not been factored with this additional element. After receipt of the communication from HDFC Bank, Dealers’ Federations have instructed their constituents to stop accepting credit cards and debit cards at Petrol Pumps from 9.1.17 against sale of fuel. This will put general public into great inconvenience.Considering the thrust given by Government of India for cashless transactions, imposition of MDR on fuel transactions will be a retrograde step by Banks and will discourage cashless transactions at Petrol Pumps as dealers are not in a position to absorb the cost of MDR.So we request you to discuss the matter with Oil Companies, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Ministry of Finance to arrive at a workable solution to alleviate hardships to general public.Pending discussion and concurrence by all stake holders, the decision to impose MDR for fuel transactions effective 9.1.17 may please be deferred.Unquote

The Petrol Pumps:Short answer: Distract you with talking and fill less fuel by filling in instalments.Now comes the long oneI was on my way to Hyderabad from my native. We stopped at a petrol pump on highway. As usual I have asked him to fill diesel and was ready with my card. There were two people one of them was for filling the diesel and the other guy for collecting the payment. I have requested him to fill 1200 worth of diesel. Now here starts the trick. I have mentioned “twelve hundred” twice in English . I don't know about his hearing condition but he asked his colleague to fill 200. He seemed to have no hearing issues later. Before we could correct him he has already started filling. Now while he was filling the fuel the cashier kept me engaged telling me about some offers and when it hit 200 the cashier asked him to fill for 1000 worth. Now here’s the trick the person went back pretending to make it zero and I was still engaged in the conversation with the cashier. The one thing I failed to observe was he actually didn't make it zero. By the time I was looking at the meter after the transaction it was already around 600 and now one more trick. The cashier slowly takes over the job of filling fuel and makes it Upto 1000. At this point I was about to leave thinking that they have filled 1200 worth.. Thankfully my brother was also taking notice of the fuel meter and he has noticed the trick. He mocked him saying that we payed you for 1200 and not 1000. When confronted he answered saying that he was of opinion that the earlier guy made it zero after filling 200. This seemed like a pretty neat trick to me. Since everyone seems innocent at the end of the day.When I have inquired my brother about how did he know about this he mentioned that this was pretty common trick in some of the petrol pumps at Pune.I was saved at KFC by reading one of the answers written to same question.
