As near as I can tell, most all of those have been in private, for profit, institutions.The City of Ottawa operates nursing homes. The last I heard, no infections, no deaths.A private, for-profit, home near the city has had over 20 deaths at last count— sometimes 3 or 4 a day.And the real horror stories have come out of privately-operated homes in Quebec.The last I heard, a non-profit Catholic charity out of Kingston that has several nursing homes and at least one group home for mentally-handicapped adults had had no infections and no deaths. [EDIT: They have now posted one resident has tested positive. EDIT2: That has now been revealed as a false positive.]My mother is in a government-run nursing home in Alberta. As of this morning, they have had two infections and one death. She has tested negative. This is in a small town that has more cases than the City of Edmonton, with a million people. 30 minutes away, a private home has had deaths well into the double digits.Is there a pattern of failure here?
