Is plan B just a cunning plot by TM to run down the clock until a hard Brexit becomes a fait accompli?

No, you’re getting her priorities wrong. Her first priority is to keep the Tories together, i.e., not to let the party fall apart over Brexit. And I’m actually beginning to believe she has a strategy. She has, from day one as PM, aligned herself with the “Hard Brexit” faction. But this might have been simply a strategic position for her, building credibility among the Brexiteers! She might, in a sense, be “running down the clock”. But not in order to achieve a hard Brexit. She knows it is incredibly unlikely to happen; Parliament would wrestle control off her at the last moment and cancel Brexit outright or whatever. That’s the clock she’s running down. Just before the last moment, she’ll go to the Brexiteers and say, “Look, they’re going to stop a hard Brexit, your only chance of getting any Brexit at all is to try to get it through a second referendum—I think I can get everyone on board with that”.And now, the outcome doesn’t matter. Neither wing is going to split off just because they lost in a referendum; they might keep bickering, but whatever the result, the issue will be buried for the foreseeable future. And she’s kept the Tories together.Of course, this might just be me attributing intelligence to a cauliflower.

How is the brain of a person who regularly meditates different from one who doesn't?

Warning: This answer has no images. You will need to painfully read the text and understand the meaning. How is the brain of a person who regularly meditates different from one who doesn't?It really depends on the type of meditation that person is doing. And it does make a lot of difference.Let's take one of the most popular forms of meditation - Transcendental Meditation (TM). When you do TM three things happen,You brain switches to a default mode which is the brain's natural state. Its the same state you have when you are day dreaming. The brain neural pattern becomes predominantly in alpha frequency which corresponds to a "relaxed, yet aware" state. Both hemispheres of the brain enter coherence. It is said that at this stage, there is a lot of endorphin production which induces bliss and happiness. What happens when the TM session is over?Usually, the alpha state is sustained for some time. With long-term practice, you are able to be in this state for longer periods. More importantly, the default mode will enhance your sense of self and expands it beyond the limitations of the body. About two-thirds of TM mediators exceeded the Jane loevinger's ninth stage of ego development - Integrated stage. This stage corresponds to full-sense of identify, wisdom and empathy towards others. The ultimate goal of Vedanta, which is the tradition from which TM comes from is "I am that" or the complete merger of individual self with supreme self. The TM results might be indicative of that result.Let's take the second type of popular meditation - mindfulness which comes from Buddhism. When you do a classic Shamatha practice, which is a Focused Attention (FA) technique (as opposed to Open Monitoring technique like Vipassana), the following happen,Executive mode of brain is activated and the brain is fully focused.Default mode is turned off.Generally, the brain wave pattern corresponds to the gamma range. What happens when the FA session is over? This is where it gets interesting. The brain wave pattern of long-term Tibetan monks are in a state of predominantly Delta range which are the slowest of the brain waves. Delta waves happen during deep, dreamless sleep where the waves are in synchrony and the sense of self has vanished (which is why we don't remember anything that happened during deep sleep). So you can argue that Tibetan monks have lost their sense of self and that they are in a state of no-self during waking hours also. You can also remember that Buddha said that the sense of self is an illusion created by the five aggregates or skandas. The previous answer talked about Amygdala and hippocampus. Amygdala is the emotion center of the brain. It prepares you for a fight or flight scenario. Hippocampus is the memory keeper. It decides which memory needs to be transferred to long-term storage. There is a famous example of a person whose hippocampus was removed. He could remember every thing before the surgery but had trouble remembering any thing that happened afterwards. When you are depressed, your body-mind has entered a fight zone. This enlarges the amygdala and shrinks the hippocampus. The brain has no interest in new stimulus and long-term memory. Its priority is to survive. In long-term meditators of mindfulness, the hippocampus is enlarged and thick. So every day is bright and beautiful and yes, bring me those beautiful memories. Amygdala has shrunk and more importantly, can be modulated. When meditators do compassion meditation, the amygdala becomes sensitive showing empathy. And long term meditators also have thick insular cortex which shows increased compassion. That's in a nut shell. And we are still learning new things including neuroplasticity. But remember that you can't reduce subjective meditation experiences to brain states and/or brain structures. If you did, you have lost the whole point. So meditate on....
