How tough is the level of questions asked in maths of SSC CGL Tier 2?

I take it that you are talking about CGL tier 2 2017. And it appears that you have started to prepare for cgl 2018.If you search it on Quora about level of exam, you will get two types of answers. First category belongs to those answers which were answered before answer key release and other one of those who answered it after the answer key release. Difference will be evident in those answers so I will share my experience rather than yes/no answer.I will tell you my experience of CGL tier 2 2017 maths. This was my first attempt and I had seen reviews on 17th Feb so was a bit tensed but maths was always my strength so I tried to be relaxed (read lazy when I say relaxed)… I attempted 76 but in answer key it shows only 75 attempts out of which 74 are correct. I wish to get 2–4 marks more but for now let's say only 74 are correct, ignoring one more question that I did but ssc keys are not showing that)So here's my take, exam wasn't tough but it was really better than previous years. It was a good attempt by SSC by increasing the level and trying to test our maths, well look at job profiles, it deserves to have some higher level.Main reasons that we found it hard was, we were used to of getting 190+ in previous years papers and mocks. But we didn't realise that at such level (national level exam) scoring 70℅ should be considered good. And exactly the same happened… Those who had 170+ in mind, without much preparation, ended up on 130 so they think it was tough. Some even claim it was like CAT. It wasn't . It was exactly like how a national level exam for MEA,CSS,ITI,EXAMINER etc posts should be like. Though I had not worked hard except last 2_3 weeks but I am okay with 150 marks as I think 160+ would have been like 185 of last year's.To conclude, don't underestimate SSC now. With increasing competition they have to raise their standards. But don't overestimate it either. It's nothing like CAT exam at all. Not at all. In a paper of 100 questions, one must set 30 difficult question else what's the point of testing a candidate's maths abilities. So if you are new, don't worry, it's not that tough, but at the same time don't look back at past and think 170- is a mediocre total, the range of mediocrity has changed this year.(Another reason was that students were not prepared for it. I admit those who used series like ssctube, olive , kd etc didn't find it hard but those like me who used some simple test series found it better than previous years and I was happy to see good level questions when I came out of exam hall but then English spoiled the mood as it was really easy)So it wasn't difficult, but it was different than previous years. From now on, it will be an exam worth the hype and repo it has created in previous years.“Don't overestimate SSC but don't take it lightly either"(PS: I am not promoting any series here, thats why I didn't tell which series I used because I know they too were unaware of the level ssc adopted. I think 20+ marks dip in maths and 10+ marks increase in English will not be surprising thing this year)All the best!…

How are you able to score such a good marks in the CGL tier 2? What is your Math preparation strategy and which books have you followed for the SSC CGL?

Every thing from material to Internet is available at such a low cost as never before. What one has to do is a few simple regularities as will be suggested in the coming passage.Coming to myself, I started my CGL 2017 preparation when I was in the fourth semester of my B.Sc.(Hons.) Statistics at B.H.U. Varanasi. What I did are as follows:-Pre Exam’s Love:-For the pre exam I always used to think that I MUST get 150+ in this section. So I along with one of my friends Started practicing GK Books namely Kiran’s previous year, lucent’s general knowledge. And as I had started my preparation nearly one year ahead so I finished M. Laxmikant’s polity, NCERT(Science and Geography) from class 6th to 10th which proved to be a boon for me at the examination day.For Reasoning section I practiced 2016 pre. question papers only. For Eng. and Maths See below. For Practice test of pre exam I solved KD CAMPUS’S weekly free test and purchased 50 full pre mock tests of Paramount and Toprankers. Only Two months before the exams.Via this I ended up at 168+ in preliminary exam.ENGLISH mania:-First of all I started to read The Hindustan Times Editorials (It was cheaper), I used to read it and jot down the difficult words in a very thin copy i.e. 10 Rupee copies so as to make the revision process easier and interesting. For English grammar I followed My self notes made solely from Lucent’s English Grammar book. The pdf of handwritten notes of which I can share if someone demands the same over here. For OWS followed Arihant’s book. For Idioms and Phrases I followed Arihant’s Book by Roshan Tolani. For practicing I solved Kiran’s previous yr. book and PERFECT English Grammar book and tick marked the tough questions and solved only those ones at the time of the revision.I solved nearly 80 full 2 hr mocks ( of Paramount Toprankers, KD Campus Weekly, Qmaths Weekly ) because we got too much of the time due regular postponement of the Tier-2 examination.Thereafter We have a cyber library in our campus So I started using it for YouTube and The Hindu Online paper readings. It helped me a lot and I have scored 180+ in CGL 2017 English section as per the answer keys. Which may increase by 1.25 marks.MATHS practice:-At the time of the starting of the preparation I solved NCERT class 6th to 10th and prepared a quick review notes of the important concepts along with one example attached to each concept.Along with that I was solving M.Tyra Maths book .After that I came to know about Kiran 7400 previous yr. and I solved it repetitively. And Also solved Lucent’s And Rakesh yadav’s ADVANCED maths repetitively. The same mocks as that of the English Section but overall only 40–45.In CGL 2017 I am getting 140 marks in maths section of tier -2 . Marks in this section of the examination is ought to increase by 6–7 marks due to a few wrong answers in the answer key of 9th March Shift paper.Practice with concepts is the key for the Tier -2 of this Examination. In Totality I am getting 490(+) marks in the CGL 2017 (T1+T2) Exam. Not yet satisfied with my Maths score which is as a result of some minor and silly mistakes.CAUTION:- Read only selected books many times And keep your sources limited in order to avoid more time consumption and less benefit. Practice Only a few Selected books repetitively it will be more beneficial.

How should I prepare for the GRE in one month to score 320+?

I took the GRE last year and scored 336/340 (Quant 170, verbal 166). I roughly took a month to prepare. I was on coop at that time, which meant I was working full-time. So, I could only study during evenings and weekends. So here is what worked for me:I started with the Free GRE Test Preparation Materials on the ets website. I basically went through the overviews of the sections on the test and the math review document, to make sure I knew all the concepts that GRE covers. I believe there are also links to tutorials in there which you can look through.I took one of the two free practice tests provided by ets to assess my preparation. I found my math was strong, verbal not so much.I downloaded the free GRE vocabulary flashcards from magoosh on my phone. This helped me with improving my vocabulary.I found about 7 free practice tests with answer keys online provided by reliable sources like Princeton review, Kaplan, Manhattan Prep etc. Each of these provide 1 practice test each.I timed myself and took each of the tests I found above. It is of paramount importance to time yourself. The GRE is a pretty long test, and tests your patience as much as your understanding. So it is important to prepare oneself to follow the exact pattern of the test. There will be small breaks in between sections. Use those to get snacks, use the bathroom etc to simulate your test day. After taking a practice test I did a thorough review. For verbal, it is important to revisit even those vocabulary related questions which you got right. Make sure you know the meanings of all the words in the options, not just the meaning of the right answer. If you didn’t know the meaning of a certain word you came across in the verbal section while taking the test, go back to it while reviewing. While reviewing, I wrote down all unknown words I came across in the practice test and their meanings. I reviewed this list before taking the next practice test. For the math portion, when I got a problem wrong, I revisited that particular concept and solved some problems from that concept from external sources. I used Official GRE® Quantitative Reasoning Practice Questions and Official GRE® Verbal Reasoning Practice Questions as these external sources.I repeated points 5,6,7,8 for all the free practice tests.I went and bought the set of 6 practice tests from Manhattan Prep (49$). I solved them using the same strategies I discussed above for the practice tests.Lastly, I solved the second free practice test provided by ets .That’s all! I sort of plateaued in my practice tests. My score never went beyond ~330. So, do not be discouraged if you consistently score lower than your target during your practice sessions. Also, I might have gone overboard with 15 practice tests, idk. Do what works best for you!Good Luck! I am sure you will ace it!Disclaimer: This is simply what worked for me. I am not claiming that this is the best way to prepare or that it guarantees any particular score.
