They can't be considered “human” or even “alive” in terms of brain activity. If they should be considered alive and abortion should be illegal, then uprooting a plant, effectively killing itshould be made illegal as well. After all, plants do live as well, don't they? Who are we to decide which one lives and which one dies?Yet I'm not seeing any “pro-life” advocates talking down people who weed their lawns or harvest produce from fields, taking innocent lives which do not register brain activity. However, they somehow dare to talk down people that decide to have some unwanted cells removed.Let's face it: “pro-life” is not about “protecting life”, it's just preferring some life over others purely on arbitrary and baseless claims.Can you spell “hypocrisy”? I can, and I can smell hypocrisy in the case of so-called pro-lifers as well.Edit:It seems the figure of 24 weeks has disturbed some readers. This figure was taken from the abortion laws of various countries and it seems that, though there are some objections, there is a consensus about allowing abortions up to this time into pregnancy, with varying measures.If any reader believes this figure should change, please take it to the World Health Organization, whose guidelines form the basis for such legislation, and not to me; I'm not in any lawmaking position for any country.If you think the basis for such a figure is in error for various reasons, please take it to the medical authorities. The Agricultural Research and Developmental activities are monitored by "Indian Council of Agricultural Research" a council under the Union Ministry of Agriculture. The prominant awards for Agricultural R&D are as follows:ICAR Norman Borlaug AwardTo recognize the outstanding achievements of a scientist, who might have provided a major breakthrough in the field of agriculture through a new insight that has created high potential value for the future transformation of the Agricultural sector, Norman Borlaug Award has been instituted. The nominations for the awards are invited in the prescribed pro-forma for a scientist(s) of any discipline of agricultural and allied sciences and not necessarily confined to NARS, whose research work has displayed a rare quality of original thinking and path-breaking output. The award carries a cash prize of ₹ 10.00 lakh. Apart from this, the selected scientist would be given a research contingency grant of ₹ 30.00 lakh per year for carrying out research in an area identified mutually by the scientist and the ICAR, which will have specified objectives and goals. Grant would be admissible for a maximum of five years, subject to annual review and favorable recommendation by a committee of agricultural and non-agricultural scientists set up for the project. There is no age restriction. The Award is open to all Indian Scientists working in India. The awardees should have sufficient and reasonable period of service left at the time of award, only then he/ she could be granted a project as per existing terms and conditions of this award which involves research contingency grant for a period of five years. The applicant for this award should necessarily be nominated by the Presidents of Science Academies or Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities or Directors of Institutes.ICAR Challenge AwardTo find a solution for any immediate or long-standing problem, or limitation in agriculture, which is coming in the way of agricultural development and/ or enhancing productivity in any major agricultural, horticultural or animal/fish product, ICAR has instituted a Challenge Award. The award carries a cash prize of ₹ 10.00 lakh, a citation, in addition to a share in the income generated by ICAR from the commercialization of the technology/ product/ process developed by the scientist while solving any of the given challenges as per ICAR rules and norms. The list of “Challenges” can be obtained either from the Award Cell of ICAR or can be down loaded from ICAR website.
