How does a train cover their delay in night time?

The other answers are quite funny, and not at all close. I work as train incharge i.e guard, a person who is responsible for the smooth operations of train and who authorises safe passage of train, reports and protects accidents meanwhile also keeping a track of time lost and time covered up by train between stations. So I am eligible for answering this question. Most basic reasons of train delay under day to day circumstances are-Speed restrictions- Mostly when a caution is placed it is temporary and remains so till a year after which it is continued as permanent caution. Only temporary cautions hit time duration of a train while time taken during permanent caution is added in the time table of train.Unscheduled crossings- These are crossings of trains which are not scheduled by the time table and is caused due to some train running late or some freight train running on priority basis.Non availability of line clear- This is caused due when the block section ahead of the station is not clear or the next station does not have a free line to recieve the train. You might have noticed that two trains between stations with same source, dest, stopages and route still take different time duration to cover same distance. This is due to extra time given for different train between two station is different. This time is 5 to 10 minutes more than the actual time taken to clear a block section. A train has 6 to 10 or more such sections with extra time between two major stations with overall extra time of 40 to 90 minutes or more. This extra time is marginal time.Marginal time provides a buffer duration so that a train may cover the time it has lost due to speed restrictions unscheduled crossings and non availability of line clear. This covering happens 9 to 10 stations before a major destination station, day or night doesnt makes a difference. You might have felt that train has covered time in night as long journey trains are given maximum marginal time at night so as to cover more chances of delays that may cause at night as speed under various circumstances (turnout, foggy weather, signal anomally) is more restricted in night, the crossings may be more frequent and the chances of some untoward incident are more.200+ upvotes!!
